  1. Thanks ,yes it's hard to spot from the photos to get it correct,I have chosen some time after the Falklands (this matches the main mast) were if I'm right still had seacat on the bow deck ,a couple of single bofors on the bridge wings with the Chaff and were the other seacats that were on the rear of the bridge works these had been replaced by Gambo 20mm cannons.I have Neil McCart book that's been an great help and my side kick from are models shows as lent his book HMS Intrepid, which was very handy, I didn't like the P.E. from L'Arsenal for both masts and that help me steal from other etching sets (spare) It's not perfect, but it looks better to me. Thanks Chris
  2. Forgot to add the original part for the flight deck.
  3. How many of us get side tracked and end up building something else, well I started cleaning up 1/700 Chieftains tanks and the Stalwarts . These were bought from Starling Models and they do them 1/350 as well.Stole this of Wiki ,it describes it the Stalwart perfectly . The Stalwart, formally classified by the British Army as Truck, High Mobility Load Carrier (HMLC), 5 Ton, 6 x 6, Alvis/Stalwart and informally known by servicemen as the Stolly, is a highly mobile amphibious military truck built by Alvis that served with the British Army from 1966 until 1992. I'm doing Intrepid ,mainly because everyone else does Fearless and my friend served on her also. The kit its a straightforward resin kit with P.E. and decals ,this is the only good kit in 1/700 yes agreed with would love this in 1/350.It can be built straight of the box,but having vehicles for the landing craft I needed to have the dock flooded ,which means having the stern lowered ,so to do this, had have a thicker based to get the right angle, with that done could turn my attention to Intrepid. The flight deck ,well not going to say anything, but had to replace it with plastic card.hope the picture shows it couldn't be use. There is no detail in the dock area ,but once finished and painted the ship,I can turn to that afterwards.I have replaced all the hatches, grills and put ladders on. I bought this at Telford ,last year 2019 ,feels like a century ago after this year, away I never noticed no decals only last night, panic started to set, checked everything I could think of and thought just email L'arsenal which I did this morning ,they have already replied and they are sending a new set at no cost. Excellent service .That's why I,m not moaning too much about the flight deck.
  4. That's HMS Nelson finished, did finish it some ago and have moved on to finishing another project which was halted for Nelson and it's almost finished, so I always start another ship to overlap the one that's about finished so I don't rush it.Probably can see HMS Intrepid in background, started that because I was painting Stalwarts,as you do, get side track (these were the main vehicle that was used in the 70'80 to be used to refuel our tanks on exercise, they could go anywhere) and they needed transport so dug out Intrepid ,they were probably never were on these ships.got Chieftains as well.
  5. Hi Yes heard of then ,they are new on the market, and their quality is excellent . Here my H class ,the small tug is Combrig.
  6. Since we are talking about damage I drop HMS Ark Royal only a couple of inches, but she turned turtle.2 hours later all fixed .
  7. Photos of angled deck Invincible carrier I called HMS Eagle .
  8. Hi Jeff I,m keeping the name Nelson.mainly to catch folk out at models show always get good comments with my G3 battlecruiser,H class german battleship and an Invincible class carrier with an angle deck, yes that one always catch everyone out.I have added the railings today, getter closer to finish her.
  9. That's the 20mm fitted and have placed were the other ships boats will go.Still have the railings and the crew to fit and also the White Ensign,I put both Nelsons together to show the difference between the two of them.
  10. That's the rigging done, was easier this time because l just copied the same rigging from the correct Nelson and I use the superb line from Uschi. Now moving on to the 20mm Oerlikons(22 for Nelson),I always do more than I require ,putting the shields on ,some always seem to move.
  11. Thanks for the comments, the first photo is Nelson, before I received a better matching wooden for the quarter deck ,which has been fitted in the second and third photo. The main superstructure, funnel, turrets, ships boats and the hull are all fixed down. The deck is a bit reddish, but can tone that. The tubs I'm still playing about ,been looking at the KGV layout, because she is more in line with then. Should say the dry dock is from company called Snowman ,the ship is HMS Legion produced by Flywalk .
  12. Hi all , Nelson will be a slower in build ,been called back to work Boohoo however ,can't complain ,still have a job ,were 100 of my colleague do not !very sad times. Back to Nelson, started to added the ships boats and 4 pompoms,I have been placing the tubs for the 20mm,must check Nelson and Rodney to see where they were on then.I think my Nelson is starting to look the part I check My Barham and everything seems to be in order.I did check her against the books I have ,won't be the first I have put something on wrong .Here she is a close up.There is a mistake ,which I have done ,but only notice after I finished her.Normally I would take it part, but as I said she was finished and wanted to move on to the next project.
  13. Yes it is tiny and they went to war in it as well,I bought this version of Victory produce by Meridian 1/700 scale Trafalgar ships ,some time ago June 2019 and only finished it in April this year to found out that Five Star are release a better detailed kit.Anyway ,just to get an idea who small the hull is ,here is the one I started and finished.
  14. Hi Stuart Very True, yes there is a story ,its a photo of my Dad standing on HMS Diana in the late 60's ,he is the furthest person on the right. He was away for 18 months in the Far east ,when this photo was taken,no internet in those days, just letters.Even my "friend" is Ex RN ,32 yrs service. Must add this, over the last 6 yrs we have been going to model shows and displaying our ships .the show are mostly are in Scotland because we live there, and have gone to all the shows in Scotland, well last year we did and the last 3 yrs we have being going to Newcastle and in 2019 we managed to go to Telford ,so here is some photos.first photo all the models out ,we take the covers off on Sat morning.I'm the tall fat one. We call our display the “Chris and Ray Maritime Roadshow” come and say hi ,we love to chat about ships. We are booked for Telford this year ,I can't see it happening, but you never know! [/url
  15. Airfix Scorpion 1/72 ,keep getting out to finish it.need to scratch build the bins on the hull,no two were the same,we used the Chieftain bins that were along the engine deck,we used then because they were better (waterproof)than bins they came with from the factory. Why I'm building, use to crew one ,in a tank Chieftain regiment,it had one reconnaissance troop(called Recce or has the rest the regiment call us (Dinky troop) of 8 CVR Scorpions ,great vehicles, fast, reliable,go anywhere,no weight restrictions.Bit of history,my Regiment 4RTR was amalgamated with 1RTR in 1992 and on 2 August 2014, 1RTR and 2RTR amalgamated. The new regiment is titled the Royal Tank Regiment.I'm glad I left in 1989 ,folk I know said the regiment was never the same after the amalgamated. My regiment 4th Royal tank Regiment, recruited in Scotland so we a Pipe band ,the famous Chinese eyes on all the fighting vehicles, also all the AFV had a name starting with "D" ,painted on the side on the hull, were 1RTR started with A and so on,some regiments were linked to ships in the R.N.,because we were Scottish we were link to HMS Fife and we spent 10 days on her, great visit. Any way back to Nelson, been busy with the wooden deck, got the deck to match up paint wise, but the pattern is off ,so I have ordered another generic wooden deck, hopefully this will match better if not ,will cover it with a large awning around X turret.I have finished 4 pompoms and started 40 bofors. The last picture my friend suggested I should do this diorama.
  16. Great build, very different ,will be watching, love the cat.I have a soft spot for this ship because of the one that sailed into Malta,SS Ohio.
  17. Been away for a couple of days and while I was away, the wooden deck had arrived,I realised I could use more of the wooden deck, so having spare hulls ,I have modify the next hull to accommodate the changes I wanted to make. Also cut A turret ring out for X turret from the first hull.I have painted the spare parts of the wooden deck and it works,so I can match then when applying the deck to the ship. The wooden deck is just sitting on the deck ,still to be painted.
  18. Well spotted ,I like putting someone usually behind to see anyone spots it.Yes they would have been massive ships ,they did lay the keel for Hutton, but scrapped when the war started,I have an excellent book called Battleships Axis and Neutral Battleships in WW ll by William H.Garzke and Robert O. Dulin ,if into Axis navies,a must to have in your book collect. first photo is Hutton beside a Hipper cruiser and Graf Spee, the second is Hutton have way through build beside HMS Renown and the last one,I pinched from another build because I don't a Bismarck or Tirpitz kit
  19. Its 1/700 and the etching went in easily ,the dishes had grooves so the etching just fell into place and used fishing line because it had a natural curvature to go round the dish.
