  1. If you're just starting out, use the X/XF paints with X20A thinner. Lacquer paints/thinners are of more use when working quickly and/or in need of a more resilient finish. Tamiya state a 2 part paint to 1 part thinner ratio for their acrylic range, use this as a guide and adjust the amount of thinner to suit the air pressure you're comfortable with spraying. I start with a 1 part paint to 1 part thinner ratio for both acrylic and lacquer thinners and air pressure between 10-18psi. This may not work for you though... Experimentation is the key as we all adopt different styles. All the best.
  2. Hi all, Just happened to pass by Al's Hobbies near where I live, just looking for some RC stuff for a friend. This lovely lot were in the small model section. The shop must have a demonic presence as I was somehow compelled to buy them... The RG250 Gamma is gorgeous, the mouldings are close to todays kits and as a nice surprise, the RZ250/350 re-releases now have RD250/350 decals. All the best.
  3. Hi all, This Monday gone I passed a Porsche Carrera GT... On the back of an AA recovery truck, just after J6A on the M1/M25. The car was filthy, If I wasn't riding, I would've chanced a quick photo. Today on the other end of the car spectrum, I was royally cut-up by an Austin Allegro. This travesty could barely accelerate past the truck it was trying to overtake, the driver was trying hard as evidenced by the puffs of sooty smoke from the exhaust. This would usually be annoying but I just had to give the driver the nod and thumbs-up. All the best.
  4. Thanks Ian, yeah I wouldn't ride this if it was 1/1 scale, must keep the street-cred in mind at all times! Great Dukes by the way, top job. The realistic finishes on a lot of models here are inspirational and at some point I'll have learned enough to have a go at this style. A member here did a stunning courier CB750-F, there was rust, damage and even a cigarette carton on the seat! For the moment though, I like the clean look, even if it's a little toy-like. All the best.
  5. Great job so far Alan, looking real good. Not really a Ferrari guy but for me, the 348 (along with the later 355) are the best looking modern classics. All the best.
  6. Thanks Steve, such a shame as they are a great set of race winning bikes. All the best.
  7. Hi all, Would anyone happen to know if any of the three JPS Norton racebikes exist in kit form? I've trawled through Google, etc. with no luck. All the best.
  8. I need this car more than food and drink. This reminds me of my brother's 2-door Escort estate of this type (seriously) in silver too. I was in excellent condition until he put it through a brick wall on Broadfields Estate. All the best.
  9. MFH does an engine set but what you'll really want are the Clay Models detail sets for the 956. Stunning doesn't do these sets justice, the only vendor I could find is this webshop. They are expensive but at least you can have a look at the sets available. Also, I'm sure a great modeller here on Britmodeller has used the sets to super detail his Tamiya 956, try typing Tamiya Porsche 956 into Britmodellers search function. All the best.
  10. Yep, Portiacraft by Mill Hill. Strange that it's the only non-Porsche around the place. If you were to go further back down the A41 to Hendon Central, there is another showroom that has some real exotica for sale, I remember a Ferrari Daytona Spyder on show a while back. Yesterday I also passed a Ferrari 328 Berlinetta down the M1 before J9, private plate of F328 ??? (can't remember the last 3 letters but I'd hazard a guess they could be the owners initials). It was immaculate. Slightly less curvy was an Aston Martin Lagonda up by Silverstone. What a massive, very strange looking object plus I had no idea it has pop-up headlamps. Today a Dakota aircraft flew over the house and around the MK Stadium, I know it's not a car/bike/truck but what a sight that was. What brave people to fly and jump out of those 75-odd years ago. A Spitfire of some kind did the same thing last week and the sound was PHENOMINAL! All the best.
  11. Hi all, Last Sunday during a trip to London, I just happened to come across this lot. There was a Bristol meeting at the RAF Museum Hendon and all the cars looked rather nice, some very elegant lines. I turned up as they were handing out awards and they didn't appreciate the loudness of my streetbike… On my way back home, I stopped off the A41 to snap this modified Toyota AE86 Trueno, complete with massive panel gaps. The IMSA All American Racers paint scheme really sets it off though the London Underground inspired cloth upholstery surely was sickening. Soz for the poor photo's, my ancient phone only has a 2mp camera. All the best.
  12. Hi all, Finally managed to get myself one of my favourite cars of all time, a 1989 Jiotto Caspita. The real car was a neat bit of kit, all carbon fibre with a Formula 1 derived Subaru V-10 engine and those fancy electronic front/rear spoilers. All the best.
  13. Hi all, Thanks for the positive replies, it's inspirational, I've learned a lot from you all already! All the best.
  14. There is hope my friend. LS produced a 1/20 Suzuki GT750B with a sidecar for some odd reason, it's a real "oldie" so no idea how available it is. Hasegawa have recently released their superb 1/12 Suzuki GT380B, I wouldn't imagine it would be too long before they tool the 750 version. All the best.

    Hi everybody

The 916 will need some converting, the front fairing headlamp cut-outs need to be filled and reshaped into a rectangle and the seat unit/rear subframe needs to be modified into the Biposto version... The tricky bit is finding a replacement headlamp from somewhere! Much like yourself though, a few more OOB builds need to be done before this is attempted. All the best.
  16. Simply sensational, in every area. I really like the effect you've done on the carbon brake rotors, highly realistic and the lock-wire on the clip-on grips. All the best.

    Hi everybody

Thanks Ian, your Ducati Desmocedici is coming along very nicely, got one myself which will be done as Troy Bayliss' bike. One project I'll be taking on sometime in the future is the Australian spec Ducati 916, the one with the big square headlamp... All the best.
  18. Thanks for the tip with the tape. I can't tell the difference between the steel shades in daylight either! I'm sure it's down to the primer as it's the only kit I've ever primed before painting... All the best.
  19. Hi all, Finally managed to bag these two kits, both with the excellent Shunko Models decals in the box. I think that's my good luck done for the year . All the best.
  20. Hi all, Thought I'd get something up as a first "look what I done" post. I built this 993 GT2 during March of this year whilst on leave. In all honesty I didn't care much for the Porsche marque but in making this model that changed, strange how making a kit can do that... The metallic panels look a bit metal-flake as I have projector LED room lights and the interior really is in red oxide primer! There was a pic on the net of a rejected chassis in this colour, it's a nice contrast if nothing else. Some in progress shots of the body. Tamiya liquid primer (the one in the glass bottle) smoothed down and masked for the bright steel colour. Blu/White-tac works really well for masking compound curves quickly: Bright steel panels masked for the dark steel colour. Turned out to be pointless as the primer cancelled out the different tones: Steel panels masked for fibreglass colour. Tamiya vinyl tape was used to match the contours, it doesn't stick very well though: Body masked for polyurethane colour. Strange that the 993 GT2 had plastic bumpers, mirrors and engine cover/tail, I thought they were carbon fibre: Masking the wheels. I stripped off the chrome and painted the center magnesium alloy and the hoop aluminium, carefully applied white-tac worked wonders here again: All the best.
