  1. Yeah, I don't think any-one is going to complain about his cooking! Well done @2Step, everybody is looking suitably busy. Regards, Jeff.
  2. Gidday, it seems that you've got the photo posting sorted. I use Flickr myself. I rather like your aircraft here, particularly "Miss Fire". Regards, Jeff.
  3. Gidday Chris, welcome aboard. AFAIK (as far as I know) there's no official time limit on builds but I think it's generally accepted that it's best to complete them within one life-time. 😁 I'm into Airfix 1/600 scale ships myself but I've never done the HMS Fearless kit, I'm more into WW2. I'll be interested in your build of her though. Regards, Jeff.
  4. Gidday Ian, actually it's Bullcreek. Bull Run was a battle in the American Civil War I believe. Surprisingly I haven't been to the museum, perhaps I should. I remember the Lancaster when it was outside at Perth airport decades ago. I climbed into the rear of the hull fuselage as a kid but not as far as the cockpit. There was a cage barrier across it inside. Regards, Jeff.
  5. Gidday @beefy66, that's nice detail added to those 4-inch guns. Regarding the 8-inch guns, they look very good too. Regards, Jeff.
  6. Gidday David, welcome aboard. I'd recommend you remove your personal details from the post above, for your own protection. Members here can contact you by PM. Also, if you ask your question in the maritime chat section you might get a better response. HTH. Regards, Jeff.
  7. Gidday Ian (my father's name), welcome aboard, from the other side of the country. I'm into 1/600 scale ships myself, done to a rather average standard. I can highly recommend retirement, did it myself two years ago, at 65. Work can really interfere with modeling sometimes. And yeah, decent tools are worth it, although I sometimes 'fine tune' cheap tools to suit me. Good luck with the PE, that's something I haven't tried, but then I'm quite set in my ways. This is a terrific site, members always willing to offer tips and advice, squabbles are almost unheard of. You should enjoy it here, I have. Regards, Jeff.
  8. Gidday Jeff, I would have thought it was 1 deck, being the upper deck of the hull, despite not going the full length. She certainly is, and that weathering you've done makes her look like a real work-horse. Regards, Jeff.
  9. Gidday Bissyboat, 0.04mm is VERY small. 😁 Re the prop shaft, I often replace mine with styrene rod. I've never had one break. I wish I did. 🙂 Regards, Jeff.
  10. Probably taking lessons from Airfix. Many of their gun barrels etc are attached to the sprue halfway along the barrel - why not at the ends? And their Belfast radar lantern is attached at the fine lattice, which gets destroyed by the sprue gate. Why not at the top or bottom? Much easier to remove and clean up. Regards, Jeff.
  11. Gidday again, there's no point in having skills if they can't be used to advantage. 👍 Well done. Regards, Jeff.
  12. Gidday @thekz, I think you've done a terrific job of Resolution's rounded stern. And if you think parts are crooked then I'll have to take your word, because they don't look crooked to me. I think you're doing very well with this, something I'd like to do in the future. Gidday too. I think you're being a little unkind to the R class ships. Like the QE class they were products of an earlier age but built to different parameters. The QE class were I think the first attempt at a 'fast battleship'. The following 'R' class were built to stay in the battle line and slug it out with their opposing numbers so they were a little smaller and slower but tough and powerful. By WW2 they were both past their prime and as the battle line was no longer WW2 tactics (except at Surigao Strait in 1944) the R class were somewhat obsolete. But they could take on more than just heavy cruisers. Adm Lutjens had both Scharnhorst and Gneisenau when he attempted to attack a convoy escorted by an R class battleship, whose mere presence forced him to break off the attack. And had Bismarck escaped into the Atlantic in 1941 one of these battleships would have been sufficient to protect a convoy from her. Although 'on paper' these were no match for Bismarck or Tirpitz they only had to damage the German ships, not sink them. Due to their limited numbers the German ships could not afford damage when out in the Atlantic. They didn't have many places they could go to for repair. The issue is probably a little more complex but those are my thoughts anyway. Regards, Jeff.
  13. Gidday @Ernie, I don't know much about the colours of these boats, neither do I weather my model ships, but I think what you've done looks extremely good. I could certainly live with it. But I guess it's you that has to be happy with her. Regards, Jeff.
  14. Gidday @Chewbacca, these are all nicely done. It seems that your trip from the Falklands to South Georgia was a nice smooth pleasant trip. I hope you all kept your dinners down. 🤢 Regards, Jeff.
  15. Sorry about that, it was never my intension. I can certainly hold off on HMS Hood (I've got many other ships I want to do), I only bought the kit because I saw her and took the opportunity while she was available. Your HMS Erin and HMS India look interesting ideas, which I'll leave to you. 15-inch Gneisenau? I was thinking of doing her also this year or next. But it would be a Revell 1/570 kit that my son and daughter found for me a few years ago with this conversion in mind. I hope that doesn't spoil your fun either. Sorry. I've been waiting for a Whiff GB here to do her but they never reach or survive the bunfight, and being a Revell kit I can't do her in any ATF GBs. If we both do her it will be interesting to compare notes. Other whiffs I've got planned is to convert a Suffolk into a light carrier, USS Independence style and a twelve gun HMS Nelson. But she's at least two years off or more. And speaking of Nelson whiffs - I did a 2A1 version of her recently as you probably know. Others have done her too, before me, but I still enjoyed doing her. I've also got some other conversions in mind but they're actual ships, not whiffs. The carrier HMS Eagle and an 'R' class battleship off Warspite hulls and another carrier, HMS Glorious off a Repulse hull. I hope none of these intrude on your plans and ideas. I can highly recommend retirement, I've been retired two years now. If you're suffering Mojo loss (and I do too, on occasion) do you have any smaller kits to kick-start your enthusiasm? I've found that helps in the past. Best regards, Jeff.
  16. Gidday, I'll look forward to seeing her. And I've got one more kit of her too so I guess I've got no excuse not to. But she'll have to wait her turn in the build queue. 🙂 Do you have any idea when you'll do your version? By mentioning KGV I'm assuming you'll fit her out with 5.25s. Regards, Jeff.
  17. Gidday @Chewbacca, I wish you hadn't shown that cutaway model of HMCS Agassiz, I feel now I should have done the same with my Flower class too. Mind you, mine is just over four inches long so I probably wouldn't get quite the level of detail. 😁 But seriously, that's a beautiful model. I'd love to see it. Regards, Jeff.
  18. Gidday @wullie.p, welcome aboard. As you've mentioned hanging models from the ceiling I assume you're not talking about tanks or ships etc. This is the personal welcome and introduction section, so I'd suggest you ask this question in the relevant aircraft (or spaceship) discussion section. I think you'd more likely get a response, and from those that could have more useful advice regarding your particular area of modeling. And like I said, welcome aboard. Regards, Jeff.
  19. Gidday Jeff, I love the detail around the funnel. I see what you mean about the thick-walled galley pipes. Do you have a thin pointy sharp modeling knife blade? What I sometimes do for something like that is to bevel the inside top edge of the drilled tube by 'peeling' the blade around the inside top edge. In my case I do it for 1/600 scale gun tubs. The resulting thin top edge gives the appearance of the whole side being thin (particularly if the inside is painted black) but there's still enough meat left on lower down for strength and rigidity. Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs. 🙂 Regards from the other Jeff.
  20. Gidday Jon, congrats on yet another very good model. Regards, Jeff.
  21. Gidday Jon, she looks very good, and 'alive'. With that amount of bow-wave and wake she appears to me to be doing about 1/2 speed, maybe a bit over - not exactly dawdling but with quite a bit of speed still in reserve. Mind you I'm no expert. She looks very good. Regards, Jeff.
  22. Gidday, as long as your forward steps outnumber you backward steps. With something this complex I'd imagine that "methodically" is the only way to go. (Says me who's never done anything like this. 😁) She's absolutely beautiful, both your model here and the real thing. And in her day, state-of-the-art maritime technology. I'm looking forward to her being displayed in the Maritime RFI section. Regards, Jeff.
  23. Guys, I think we've got our hooks into him. Time to 'real him in!' 😁 She's looking great, Andy, and yes the PE guard-rails do make a difference. But I feel that your fleet will be short of cruisers. (hint hint 😁) Regards, Jeff.
  24. Thank you very much everyone, greatly appreciated. Actually I've sort-of done this with two models. I've done a Repulse model which I named HMS Reliant, with Warspite's superstructure and Belfast's twin 4-inch guns replacing the kit's triple mountings. I was going to name her HMS Retribution but to me that sounds more like a battleship's name. A whiffed 'R' class in the future perhaps? The other was my second build of the Iron Duke kit. The scenario was that a sister-ship HMS Benbow wasn't scrapped, and just before WW2 was reactivated as a heavy convoy escort. For this model I replaced the midships Q turret with an extra boat deck and replaced the 6-inch casemate guns with twin 4-inch, from Ajax kits this time. Her AA outfit was modest but her intended area of operations (initially anyway) was mid-Atlantic, as a deterrent against surface raiders. Both are in a What-if thread: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235099969-arnoldambrose-whiffed-ships/ And TBJ, if you can find the time then give one a go. But they can be a bit addictive. 🙂 Regards, Jeff.
  25. Agreed. Well, in my part of the world anyway. But then I don't travel much, in case I fall of the edge of the world. . .
