Hey all, need a bit of help. Anyone can recommend correct olive drab colour? I would probably prefer vallejo one - brushes nicely. I have humbrol olive drab, unfortunately it has lots of grain/"sand" and I am not sure how to sort it out.

Hey all, So after busy days at work, trying to figure out business relocation, making redundancies and other crap (people said Brexit is good, I have to live with it and explain to stuff why job loss is a good thing for them, they can take back the control) Tamiya p47 came to me! I also bought Eduard etched parts, mainly for the seat belts, however got a good deal on ebay, so will use other parts as well. First look - what an amazing kit it is. Wow. What a detailed cockpit! So started yesterday evening, I have done few bits this morning. Just to note, I am nowhere even close to professional and nowhere even close to the builds I see on this forum, however find this model building a super relaxing hobby! I wont't post pictures of the kit itself, there are quite a lot of them and a lot of professional and objective reviews of how outstanding this kit is Started with a cockpit, was not sure about colour, lots of pictures of p47s suggest quite different "greens" so I though I would test my Vallejjo interior green for that. Brush painted, few coats and the result (it drys very quickly so once you finish all parts, the first one you started is almost ready for the next coat): Some Revell acrylic black and white + humbrol brown mixed humbrol red for the "pillow" (parts are not glued yet, but fit is amazing and holds stable even without glue ): Add some more detailing (revell silver, revell yellow, few Eduard Etched parts), dried brushed with lighter colour of vallejo interior green, dried brushed with revell silver, added tamiya black panel line wash and the result is still drying: Added Eduard seat belts, and could not resist to fit test it: So far that is it. I am not sure how accurate it is in terms of colouring etc, but looks SIMILAR of what you can find on google So happy with that I am fully impressed with the detailing Tamiya made, with the fit so far (even though it is couple of the parts only, but I tried building Dora Wings Bellanca which was somewhat a disaster in everything, so just lays in the box for the last couple of the months without progress) and it is an extremely enjoyable kit! Suggestions and recommendations are more than welcome, I am quite a beginner with only couple of the builds on my shelf. Just do not suggest airbrush, no space, had to work with brushes :DDDD

Sorry for misunderstanding. In no way I wanted to call this review not honest. I love those presentation reviews and they should be this way as it is. I am not talking about this review. In general you can find plenty build reviews with all the flaws so know what to expect from a kit. Understandably, Dora Wings is a new company, hence not many reviews. Hope it is clearer now and very sorry if that was understood in any other way

Have this model. So some points: Kit does not include the masks as in your pictures. Probably they give better kit for the review. Cockpit is extremely basic. If you build Lituanica, you will notice some spare space behind the seats for fuel tanks etc, small pins also there, but the parts are not included. There is a bit of flash. Well quite a lot. Some parts are not even (seems that the mold was not closed properly and top of the part is moved about 1 mm to the side comparing to the bottom of the same part). Nothing fits. Make sure to do lots of dry fitting. I have closed the fuselage now, so far could not find a part that fits at least reasonably. Be ready to do lots of cutting and sanding. When fuselage closed it has from 1mm to 3mm gap at the bottom. Top part of fuselage even fits quite well, but will require a lot of filler. Dried fit the wings - same problem. So be ready to use a lot of filler. Parts on the sprues are not numbered, but instructions shows the numbered parts. Well, might be fine, kit is not huge. Kit was about £18. Which is quite costly for 1/72 scale, comes on the price range as Eduard Spitfire Profipack same scale. You cannot compare them. I remember building ICM spitfire 1/48. It had much less problems that this kit and is double cheaper and more detailed + you understand what you get for your money. Not worth money at all. The only selling point that it is very rare model to find, and they are the first (correct me if I am wrong) to make Lituanica. I am quite disappointed that I got it as soon as it came live, what an error. Thanks God I did not buy more kits from them and it is sad that there are no honest reviews around

For me as a beginner Eduard spits are the best kits to build. Challenging enough, but at the same time easy fit, perfectly made with panel lines, detailing, riveting etc, not too deep, not to vague, just perfect. And all it comes in a very correct price comparing to others. For example I recently bought Dora Wings kit for about £17 and it is a pure disaster comparing to what you get on Eduard kits in the price range. I even bough Eduard kit from 1998 (not spitfire though), but it is excellent. From my poor experience as a modeller - you just cannot get wrong with eduard.

Thanks! If being honest I found it much more difficult then RAF colours. On the other hand it was a joy since I did not use humbrol paints :DDDD So Revell acrylic and acrylic thinner of ration 50/50, 4 coats and the results are not excellent, but acceptable. First coats made me think it will end up crap and wanted to quit modelling, leave the family, quit job and go to some desert and hide, but end result was not that bad

Thanks! If being honest I cannot say that Tamiya is better. I would say both are kind of even. Tamiya is more detailed, gear bay is much more detailed, panel lines, instrument panel etc and NORMAL landing gear legs (airfix ones are really crap, wonky and less detailed). However you cannot have flaps down, back wheel doors are molded - so cannot have them closed, so airfix mustangs got some benefits as well apart from being cheaper. The canopy sits the same way like on Airfix, however I noticed that it is incorrect so glued it the way it should be

Thank you! humbrol 33 was matt, however it is horrible paint and left lots of brushing signs, so I polish it with a micro fibre cleaning cloth (one that comes with sunglasses) to make it look at least a bit better and by doing this I got a shiny colour

Hello, so I have finished my 4th model in my life Added tamiya p51D 1/72 scale to my collection. Not that good in weathering and stuff, this time tried to make metal scratches etc. All model was painted using brushes. Used: Revell acrylic - black and silver colour. Lovely paints for me as a begginer Humbrol red - horrible paint for me as a beginner for brushing. Too thick if without thinner, poor coverage if thinned requiring a lot of coating which ends up in being too thick anyway Nose - humbrol 33. Horrible paint as well, but when did some "scratched metal with lot of wear and tear effect" ended up not that bad, so quite happy with the result. Used some random decal fix (unbranded) for decals - looks like pva glue and smells similarly, but happy with the result . Did not apply any varnish - thought the plane is glossy enough already. Tamiya kit: I build airfix p51 mustang before, so this kit seems to be better - excellent fit which is very important for me as a beginner and much more detailed than airfix. However comes with a price, I paid about £14 for the kit, when airfix was about £9 with next day delivery including paints and stuff. Only few pounds difference, details are much better, however far far behind of Eduards spitfires detailing in the same scale and the price is similar (also noticed that Eduard's clear parts are MUUUUCH better quality, on the other hand I am not sure if there is any better mustang kit available in 1/72 scale + you get a really nice instrument panel instead of having decal only. Liked tamiya's decals, even though I believe Airfix decals are much better and eduard would be on the last place here, however Tamiya provides more of them then airfix + seat belts decal which is a very nice touch. Did a lot of mistakes here, like showing metal wear and tear on the rudder and just then realising that it should be fabric material look. But oh well this time Currently building Airfix Typhoon in 1/72 scale so any critique that would help to advance is more than welcome!

Many thanks! The offer I do research the more kits I want + when you look at the built/ready to display pictures I just want all of them. Anyway, I did consider 1/32 scale, but at the moment considering my skill set and that I am still using the brush for painting... I will stick to 1/72 and will try 1/48. Thanks for the links by the way, I did not know few of them I am also looking for good deals, managed to get eduards new spit in 1/72 for £10 from Amazon with Prime delivery

Since I can live with hers too many shoes, her collection of perfume is a great argument against why I want many planes I know the web already, but did not go into very details there. Anyway, it just proves that the hobby is quite a hard work, since it is complicated from the beginning of "what kit to choose" up to the end "what decals will I use".

As mentioned I have built eduard 1/72 - I did not push for extremely visible rivet lines, however it is bit visible on close inspection and gives some lovely shades from a distance when being not so obvious. I know that rivets are usually not that much visible and they are certainly not black washed and what is done with rivet tools or eduard made rivets - actually does not look like rivets, looks like small holes for your wash :DDD But that is pretty much closest you can get with modelling if I am not mistaken. I am def building Eduard kit in 1/48 with resins and stuff, however at the moment I believe it is a bit too advance to me. + I am more than happy to try riveting myself, would be something nice to learn. Do you mean ICM kit has horrible fit? Does meng mustang kit include engine parts?

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to modelling and have built only few 1/72 scale. However now want to try a slightly bigger 1/48. Looking at two models spitfire or p51. It can be older versio of the plane or newer - does not really matter, equal opportunities - I love them all. My main wish - I want the engine open as well as gun bays if possible. I looked at few options: Eduard (did one 1/72 kit, just loved it, when looking at other kits 1/72, I believe eduard is pure winner on spitfires), however engine details have to be ordered separately and made from resin (not sure if I am that ready for cutting, drilling etc)., but engine costs even more than the kit itself, so bit expensive I would say at the moment + I would be too worried to mess it up. ICM - found out they do spits with engines opened, read few reviews, seems alright to me, but as far as I understood they have lack of rivet details etc (I find detailed and accurate rivets really sexy)? Pro: the kit is cheap, but seems that not all of their spits come with engine details. Which kits do come engine details? Revell 04661 spit kit - as far as I understood it is same ICM kit? At least the sprues look the same from pictures? If so - what is the difference? Better decals? Anything else? I believe it can be hard to buy one, however quite sure I would get something off ebay I could not find p51 1/48 with engine thou and I am not sure about which kit to choose PE cockpit details like panel and safety belts - I am looking at Eduard, any other options that are fairly good or maybe better? Is there anything else available on the market? Maybe engine parts etc available not made from resin or any other softer plastic? Or pre cut already? I am fine with buying parts separately, however do consider the cost. Any recommendations are highly appreciated!
