  1. Adam the Tamiya P-47 (72nd & 48th) are two of the finest engineered kits ever made as you are discovering. Your work on the kit is looking really nice so far so keep the pics coming. By the way don't worry about the wiring up the engine as once the prop is on you can't see much of the detail anyway. Cheers
  2. Looking good Steve. Tell me did you bother to do anything with the massive ejector pin marks in the wheel well or did you just leave them. Cheers
  3. I did a review of this kit for a modeling magazine here in Australia a while ago and yes as stated many times it is a re-pop of the very nice AMT kit. I think from memory that one thing that stood out was that the moulds for this kit are getting a little "tired" and some of the panel lines near the tail are very soft and inconsistent. However this is small change stuff and nothing some sanding and re-scribing won't fix. Cheers
  4. I have used the Iwata HP-CS for some years now and it's really magic piece of kit. I have never owned an H&S AB so I can't comment on them, however you will never go wrong with an Iwata. The AB is rock solid and handles broad coverage and fine details without a problem. The only part I've replaced in mine over the last four years has been a nozzle which Captain Clumsy Butt (me) ruined.
  5. Gary I forgot to ask what did you use to wash the panel lines (they look sweet) and why did the Quickboost bang seat need so much trimming? Cheers
  6. Wow that is an awesome job Gary, thanks for posting.
  7. I have been looking forward to this kit for so long now it's not funny, finally a 1/48 scale Sea Fury that's not Hobbycraft . From the look at the sprues the kit looks to up an up scaled version of their 1/72 offering (no surprise there) with most of the components being the same except for the cowl which I think was 1 piece in the 1/72 kit. I am not fussed what decals they put in the kit because I'll be replacing them with AM ones anyway and as for the rivets well rivets shmivets, if they are too big for my taste I'll fill them, otherwise I'll just leave them as is. Cheers
  8. I hear what you're saying Jen and I agree with you that it would look a little odd with an unmodified Spit sitting with a bunch of modified ones. Ultracast IMHO make some of the best aircraft accessories around and they really are worth it. Btw you are one of the fastest builder (of quality) that I have ever seen. Please keep it up I'm really enjoying your build. Cheers
  9. Mate they look pretty realistic to me, nice job
  10. Craig I have see this done but not with panel lines but rather whole panels. The idea is to simply use different colored primers on different panels in the aircraft and then apply the ALCLAD. The effect is subtle but is does work. Cheers
  11. Ant, the way I normally do Eduard seatbelts is to: 1. Assemble individual belt as per instructions 2. When read apply a small dot of CA to the point of the seat that the belt fastens too, usually the back or the side. 3. Wait for the glue to set then gently push the belt into position in the seat (the bit where the pilots bum goes) and set in place with another drop of CA. Here's on I prepared earlier, it's a P-40E from the RAAF in the desert hence the dust. Cheers
  12. Great looking work Jen, you've done an outstanding job on the front office To be honest though once the vanilla Hase kit is assembled and finished, unless you get a set of callipers out you really can't pick the couple of mil shortness in the fuselage. Cheers
  13. The only Mag I subscribe to is Military in Scale which I love as it matches my taste in aircraft and armour to a tee. I used to subscribe to FSM but as posted earlier I believe they are yesterdays new as far as a mag goes. I will buy individual copies of SAMI, MAI, MMI or TMMI as needed if a decent article comes up that I'm keen on. As to the other question: DO YOU NOTICE ADS? Yes I sure do if a picture accompanies the ad. DO YOU TAKE ANY NOTICE OF THEM? Yes again especially if it's a nifty bit of AM kit. HOW ELSE DO YOU FIND ABOUT OTHER NEW PRODUCTS? Online hobby shops mostly DO YOU BUY THE MAGS FOR THE CONTACT DETAILS? No Cheers
  14. I'll definitely be adding one to my stash, I already have the Two Bobs decal sheet and resin bang seat ready to go. Cheers
  15. Wow now that's a project and a half. Good luck and I'll be watching this one with interest. Cheers
  16. Brilliant, that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Ian
  17. Does anybody happen to have a photo or two of this NM strip? I plan on entering my kit in comps and I'll need photographic references to backup any changes I make to the standard kit. TIA
  18. Thanks very much Van and Magnus for your replies, they were both really helpful. I was going to reinforce the wing root myself with a big chuck of strip styrene as I agree that there is no way I trusting the wheel well inserts. As a matter of interest did either of you guys try to do much with that enormous pour stub in the wheel wells? I have cleaned up mine the best I can, but I think I'll just attach the bird to a base so that nobody can look too closely at the wheel wells. Cheers
  19. Very nice looking F-20 Tigershark Zeke, she looks a real beauty FWIW, the F-5 sold so well because it was cheap, easy to maintain and fly and was readily available and yes once the full spec F-16 was available for export the whole project was dead in the water. Cheers
  20. Wow, great job on both kits they really turned out nicely, especially the King Tiger The only small thing I picked up on is the tracks on the panther. The rust is very uniform on the tracks and the parts of the track that contact the road should have bare metal showing though. Cheers
  21. Nice looking front office Peter, keep us posted with some more pics will you. Cheers
  22. Testors Model Master Metalizer Burnt Iron (Non-buffing) - 1424
  23. to both the above, provided you give sufficient drying time you will be fine.
  24. I couldn't agree more that it's the quality of the kit inside the box that's the most important part, however (for me anyway) attractive artwork can certainly peak my interest in a kit. Take for interest the boxart of the upcoming Eduard FAA Hellcat that I saw the other night. Wow it looked hot and I thought to myself, self I reckon I should get one of those babies. As for reviews and or criticisms on kits that you find in forums, there are normally so many opposing points of view and contradictory statements that I take very little if any notice of them. Case in point the great Hellcat chin scoop debate on HS recently. Cheers
  25. Matt this is a little OT for this Mk.I thread but you know the MPM/Special Hobby are releasing a new mould 1/48 VC this year . I'm kinda buzzed about this as I have been after an off the shelf Mk.VC for years. Cheers
