Tamiya 1:48 Spitfire - Messerspit Conversion
darson replied to Mike's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Looks great Mike and as the other guys said very cool. Cheers -
Geez Oliver you certainly don't do things by halves do you, this should be amazing
-
That's a fantastic piece of work Oliver and certainly far beyond my meager skills, wow I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your posts. Cheers
-
Well thank heavens that's a rare occurrence Great looking work so far Rob I especially like the camo scheme you've chosen it should look great. By the way what is the brand of that after market bang seat you are using and and where did you get it as I've just started an RAN A-4G and I'm finding the kit supplied seat is a little bland. Cheers

Will have a look at this build article of an F-117 by John Heck of Silicon Valley Scale Modelers in the US. It's a fantastic "how to" resource for creating a highly realistic black finish. Cheers

G'day mate, Have Glass is the code name for a series of RCS reduction measures for the F-16 fighter. Its primary aspect is the addition of an indium-tin-oxide layer to the gold tinted cockpit canopy. This is reflective to radar frequencies, while it may seem odd, adding a radar reflective coating actually reduces the plane's visibility to radar. An ordinary canopy would let radar signals straight through where they would strike the many edges and corners inside and bounce back strongly to the source, the reflective layer dissipates these signals instead. Overall, Have Glass reduces an F-16's RCS (radar-cross section) by some 15 percent. Not sure if it's exactly the same stuff as the F-22 but it's applied with the same CASPER (Computer Aided Spray Paint Expelling Robot) system used for the F-22 so I’d be guessing yes. The paint has a distinct metallic finish to it and has a dirty faded weathered appearance. Paint codes for this finish are: Overall Aircraft - FS36270 Topsides - FS36118 Wingtip Missile Rails - FS36270 Underwing Missile Rails, Pylons & Drop tanks - FS36375 or FS36270 Here's what it looks like on a Viper Cheers

Wow Will that is some gorgeous looking work on the bare metal areas and thanks for the detailed explanation, I always appreciated a fellow modeler taking time to explain their techniques. Keep those updates rolling
-
Put me down as a definite yes for this one and just to annoy the daylights out of everybody I'll be doing the 1/72 Trumpeter kit with CMK replacement cockpit. Cheers

Sorry about that Mike normally I've built ICM Spits so decals aren't a problem. Is there anyway you can photocopy and then create masks from the decals so you can spray them, just a thought
-
I've used them on a number of builds and the result is always the same, disintegration followed by AM decals being ordered.
-
I'm afraid not, afaik the only resolution to your problem is a light wet sand and a re-spray, sorry. Cheers
-
I'm with Tim here, that looks absolutely fantastic Rick especially the weathering and chipping . Also, here's a couple of pics that I often use as a reference when I'm dirtying up a Spitfire, I hope you find them useful. Cheers

Well it sure looks like you nailed the nose Ian an those Ultracast resin goodies really are superb aren't they. Cheers

Digital photography - produces SO many photos...
darson replied to Grant's topic in Aviation Photography
I have used Adobe Photoshop Elements for years now (I think I'm currently on ver7) and that certainly does the job as far as I'm concerned for organising and editing digital photos. For backup I have two external 1TB drives as well as the internal 500GB drive on the PC to store the 60,000+ photos we currently have. One of the TB drives is always connected to the PC so the photos directory is always kept in sync across the two drives, while the other TB is kept off site at my mother in law's house and bought back one a month for a full system backup. This may sound like overkill but with the price of TB drives these days being as cheap as they are it doesn't cost a lot to protect yourself. Oh and by the way this backup strategy saved my butt a couple of months ago when the HD in the PC went t1ts up. Cheers -
Oh I forgot to mention if you ditch the engine in that ICM kit you will find the fit of the nose components 1000 times easier. Cheers

Great looking work so far Ian, please keep those updates coming

nice work with the drybrushing, you've really made that pit shine.

Hi all, I am currently planning stages of a Fuerza Aérea A-4C build using the Hasegawa kit I am looking to have the aircraft fully armed and have read that the Argentine Air Force used British 1000lb, 500lb & 250lb bombs during anti shipping strikes, is this true? If so anybody know where I can get my hands on some 1/48 1982 vintage British iron bombs? Thanks in advance
-
Sorry to go off topic a tad but in exactly the same vein, I am currently playing a game on my Xbox where the action is set in Africa and as such the un-dead baddies are African. Unfortunately this fell foul of the PC gaggle who were outraged that you get to shoot people of dark skin which of course is racist. However, the previous game in this series was based in Spain and I noted that nobody complained about blasting Spaniards to bits
-
Outstanding work there Fidoo, what did you use for the panel line wash it looks spot on? Cheers
-
Great looking bit of "gizmology" there Chris, please keep the updates coming Cheers
-
I've just had a quick check of my references and from the old Mk1 eyeball they look the same to me. I don't know if every hose is exactly the same but they are close enough. Cheers
-
Wow nice piece of work that, you've really captured the look of a landing 747 to a tee Cheers
-
Hey there Ilan your front office looks great so far, keep up the good work. I'm also waiting to see how that Aires pit fits into the Hase kit as I've got and F-4G lined up for later in the year with the same Aires resin bits as you By the way are you going to arm your bird or leave her clean? Cheers

This situation with the pricing of Hasegawa's new issue 72nd scale kits is the same all over the world at the moment. It doesn't matter what 72nd kit Hase you're looking at be it a B-24, Lancaster, F-111 or E2-C you're going to need to take out a second mortgage to afford it. In the past I probably would have bought most of the kits that I listed even though 72nd isn't my scale but these days they're a bit expensive for an impulse buy. Oh btw I did fork out $40 for the Fujimi RN Phantom, it was too good to pass up. Cheers
