  1. Hi folks, With the near completion of my Stuka and other models being undercoated etc., I thought it time I started something a little larger. There was only going to be one of these kits but a recent trip to Toyworld, there was a Dornier with RAAF decals. I bought it and now I have 2 to build. One will be Dutch and the other RAAF. I don't know how I am going to get the Dutch decals, though. I might have to learn to make my own. Decals and some PE I forgot to photograph the RAAF decal sheet will do that with the next update. On the box it says fully upgraded moulds, does that mean that there is no requirement to purchase the AIMS PE set. I don't really want to as 2 sets will cost 40 pounds about $80 AUD. It is about time I learnt to scratch build some parts. Thanks for looking. Stephen
  2. You will have to excuse my ignorance, but what is the Bravo November Story? Hey, my excuse is I live in the colonies.
  3. You are doing a great job Stew. If a crew member ate baked beans or onions there would be trouble, there isn't much room in that cockpit. Stephen
  4. Why don't you build a vac forming device and make your own. You would have no trouble, your quite talented. Stephen
  5. I have a couple of Short 184s, but they are not as exciting as this kit, I think they are Formaplane vacs. They are out in the garage in my old army trunk and they can stay there for a while.
  6. Bruce you can go to the chemist and buy needles to use as guns. I got quite a few from the vet we use, cost me nothing. Go to a auto paint store and get some sanding ????? christ knows what you call them. They are about 6 x 4 inch foam sanding blocks, cost about 2 bucks. They come in different grades. I got micro fine. Where do you get the silly putty from. Bye the way she is looking pretty fine. Stephen
  7. Thanks Bruce. The canopy has only a few frames to work with and I'm trying to wing it. It has taken a few days to get to this stage as I keep putting it off
  8. Finally some sort of update on this build. The model is now painted, I had a go at pre-shading. I think it has turned out very nice. I still have a few touch ups to do and finish masking the canopy and a few bits to add. Thanks for looking. Stephen
  9. Best of luck with this little beauty. I like the way you have the wings attached before you join the fuselage. How have you kept your clear parts clear? Mine have all yellowed. Stephen
  10. I have never seen snow. I think you can have it, looks too bloody cold for me. Nice build though. Stephen
  11. Bill, I have some pictures of RAAF Buffalos. There is one aircraft called "Shirley" that has no armor and two others V@TD (453 Sqn) and GA@B (21 Sqn) that show armor like the line drawing and the photograph. The seats are like the photograph and not like the line drawing. Some links http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._453_Squadron_RAAF#mediaviewer/File:Buffwrecks.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._453_Squadron_RAAF#mediaviewer/File:453_RAAF.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._453_Squadron_RAAF#mediaviewer/File:453_Buffalo.jpg http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a51.htm Hope this is a help. Stephen
  12. Thanks Mark, I have googled and googled and googled looking for info on my uncle, it is not easy. Boiled my brain in the process and I thought I would ask as you seem very well informed about Catalinas. Of course when he was alive I never asked him about the war. All I knew he was wounded and I thought he was a grunt and got shot in New Guinea. In fact on that day he was in the rear gunners position of what he called a USN Liberator on the second mission to bomb Guam. His squadron traded their Cats in for Liberators. He was a character. Stephen
  13. Mark it is a pity all your brilliant detailing is mostly invisible, great work. Can you tell me what was the first USN Black Cat squadron. My uncle flew with that particular squadron from an island called Kiriwina, in New Guinea. Stephen
  14. I wish I could do that kind of detail work. Brilliant Stuff General. Stephen
  15. Your pilot notes don't say that the ventral windows are vents and it does not say they were open all the time.
  16. Bill, Your Buffalo is coming along very well. You are doing a great job. Ventral Window. They are not vents but enlarged window panels to improve downward visibility. Reference "F2A Buffalo in Action". The XF2A-1 had 4 large panels, the F2A-1 had small square panels similar to the F2A-2 and the F2A-2 had the panel layout in your kit.. The gas vents on the F2A-1 were in the tail and they were moved to just in front of the wing leading edge of the F2A-2. Some of those ventral windows either were not fitted or they were painted over. The Finnish model 239s weren't fitted, well the photos I have don't show them. The same with some of the model 339E aircraft???? Hope you and you wife get well soon. Stephen
