  1. Good Morning, There was a well detailed article in Aeroplane Monthly vol.5-8 August 1977. Your searches might throw up a bit more if you include the name 'Stratoliner'. Good luck.... N Edit: Here is one for sale. I have used this 'site many times and they seem very reliable.... https://www.magazineexchange.co.uk/cw/aeroplane-monthly-magazine-august-1977-issue.html Hope this helps.
  2. Happy birthday Roger Lindsey Bunce, 71 today. Always thinking of you. N
  3. Well I don't think it was strictly speaking. The cliff top is about 550ft and we were on it, looking down. Nice to see though but I did straight away think about it meeting a big herring gull myself, lots of those about there always.
  4. Yep, saw it flying below cliff top level on the Highdown near Freshwater Bay today, c.12:30 15/2. Barely legal by the looks of it. Lovely noise it makes. A bit stunned to make too close observation but definitely a yellow fin otherwise, only saw the top of it as it went by !
  5. Well this might be good news for you: https://www.freightdogmodels.co.uk/product/freightdog-1-72-british-testing-colours-decal-sheet/ or https://www.scalemates.com/kits/airdecal-7211-raspberry-ripple-fixed-wings-part-2--280667 The former is available on Colin's site (Freightdog) and the latter I'm not sure about, you may have to search them out.
  6. Yes, certainly Ray and thanks for considering them. Cheers, Nige
  7. The current (January 2024. Vol.45/11) issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling has a very detailed kit bash of this model, if you can get a copy. Should still be on the shelves at time of writing.
  8. Those look really nice. Are you interested in selling a set of them ?
  9. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X144003
  10. I should have thought that a series of test flights using different small adjustments (shims, temporary fairings etc) was how they arrived at the compromise. Calculations and wind tunnel data take you only so far and the real world with actual flight results were and still are essential.
  11. Ecko Radar company supplied it’s ARI 5820 for the Hunter and probably the Swift which gives you a bit more chance in your searches. This was a British company and those plugs on that unit in the images are Plessey 1950s types so that gives some small confirmation.
  12. Try this site for Scale Models magazines. They call it ‘Scale Models Collecting’ https://www.magazineexchange.co.uk/cw/scale-models-collector-magazine
  13. You might find the 4+ monograph useful if you can find one. Published 2001. A quick look online showed this one: https://www.aviationmegastore.com/en/books/miles-magister-4-publication-8090255944-35481.html
  14. Thanks John, I did see those but didn’t think they looked ‘weighted’. Edit: Just looked at the new Black Dog ones which Hannants have and they look as though they might do the job.
  15. Thanks for that. Do you know of a UK source ? I looked at the Ultracast website and at first glance it seems they eschew posting to the UK. Perhaps the likes of Eduard will fill the gap eventually.
  16. The Hyperscale review points out the wheels which look to have the ‘weighting’ a little overdone. I did have a look through some aftermarket ones but all seem to be ‘in flight’ offerings. Can anyone advise on a suitable aftermarket set which are weighted ?
  17. Regarding the Airfix Hampden kit, there is a very good review of the kit in Aircraft Illustrated magazine for Feb.1969 which you might wish to consult. By the late James Goulding, there are some good close up photos of real a/c together with recommended corrections to some areas particularly the rear gunners position, his transparency and associated top decking fairing together with pictures of his build. No mention of the wheels though.
  18. Going back to my reference, 1962 saw the Halifax, Caravelle and Comet 4B and that is it for aircraft but lots of other non aviation stuff, cars, ships etc. and other kits.
  19. According to Jeremy Brook’s book on Airfix, it was released in 1962. Soon after, still in the ‘60s, the kit moulds got modified and ‘superdetailed’ whatever that means. We could do with a new one although having built it twice over the decades, it does scrub up quite well. Perhaps cross kitting it with the SH one might be an opportunity for a project.
  20. A Sword PR.IV available here : https://www.spitfireaa810.co.uk/product-page/1-72-scale-spitfire-aa810-model-kit Profits to a good cause I believe…
  21. According to my precious Aeroclub catalogue, you want for the Hastings, P004, 2x Rotol 4 blade13’ diameter R/H. Which are also apparently suitable for a Viking. This might be an alternative source if someone has a Viking stash ! Going back to P004, there are/were only two units per pack so you will need to find two packs.
  22. Just in addition here, Bill Clark has written a very informative deep discussion piece in the current SAM (Sep ‘23) regarding colours and variations within individual delivery batches of the F4J(UK) fleet along with a nice looking build of an Academy 1/72 F4J. Recommended.
  23. I got a set via the Aug/Sep/Oct Scale models magazines by simply buying them off ebay. I have also used the Magazine Exchange quite a lot for this sort of thing too. See below: https://www.magazineexchange.co.uk/cw/ Even with international postage, this might be a way forward for you. Cheers.
