I am finding it increasingly frustrating that manufacturers today mainly do not include any pilots in their aircraft models? Why? Do they think that everyone wants to build a static unanimatiated model? Is it too difficult for them to make moulds for pilots?
Okay, there are a few expensive after-market resin pilots available, but I am reluctant to pay £10 a pop just to add a pilot, when they used to be included in kits. The biggest dearth in pilot models are modern RAF pilots and even if you do find one, you can bet it won't fit in your model!
It is not just 1/72 scale either, but in 1/48th and 1/32nd scales, where most of those available (Hasegawa etc) are only WW2 era, USAF/Navy or Soviet pilots.
Going up the scale, has anyone suggested to Airfix that they make a 1/8th scale modern RAF pilot, same scale as their other historic figures? This could be marketed as a Red Arrows pilot, or a Tornado/Typhoon pilot and would be great for figure modellers as there is nothing like it available?
