  1. Should be a bit of fun; especially as it’s outside of my usual WWI /interwar builds.
  2. Came across this while surfing the interweb and thought I had to build one, I may even attempt the digital camouflage. Step 1 as the plan is slightly bigger than A4 I resorted to good old pen and paper drawings to scale it to 1/48. I’ll mold it as wings, tails, booms and fuselage/canopy so quite a bit of woodworking to follow.
  3. Some bulkheads and the tail fitted. Cockpit cut out and started foiling the rudder.
  4. There do seem to be quite a few and it looks pretty good there is a 1996 copyright notice in the box ( which I’ve thrown out)
  5. You could well be right. And yes hydrazine can be rather nasty. Not as bad as mariatic acid which we used to use as an etchant on titanium parts back in my aerospace days
  6. It’s a po2 alright the u stands for uchebnny which means training
  7. There are several accounts of ground crew pouring fuel into an ‘empty’ container and blowing themselves up. There were also many taxiing and landing accidents caused by the field combining unexpectedly. The fuels as and of themselves weren’t that bad. It was more that they react together explosively. Z stoff was potassium permanganate or sodium permanganate both reasonably benign, mixed with water T stoff was concentrated hydrogen peroxide. Which can be caustic. I don’t know if the statistic is true but it’s said that the 163 killed more Germans than Allies.
  8. Absolutely. How many times do you see people post mojo restorers, myself included. Take a break or try something totally different. It’s been a weird eighteen months and everyone is showing the strain. Oh and if it’s any consolation I do remember the sig.
  9. Or do you mean the duct tape on the vacuum box, that doesn’t go anywhere near the grill so it doesn’t get hot. And of course it brings me to one of my favourite quotes. ’Duct tape is like the force; it has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe together’
  10. I have no idea. The kit Lioks quite good, the manufacturer appears to be PMS(!). Must check out scalemates and see if I can track it down. No luck but I found another one on eBay
  11. Can’t believe this is upon us already. I’m just finishing up my last less than tenner build and trying to get my fleet of Me109s painted, not to mention my Bristols and French planes. Still im looking foward to this and have a second 1/144 phantom on the way for the GB.
  12. I shall soon be the proud owner of this, so all set for the GB.
  13. So we’ve done the Me109 the third most built aircraft and there’s a proposal for an FW190 GB the ninth most built so I started thinking what were the other most bullt and maybe it might make for a more interesting GB than an STGB. So the list:- 1. Cessna 172 2. IL 2 Sturmovik 3. Bf/Me 109 4. Piper pa 28 5. Cessna 150/152 6. Cessna 182 7. Spitfire/Seafire 8. Piper Ja3 9. FW 190 10. Polikarpov Po 2 So any of the above. There’s a broad mix but a linking theme. This will be my last shot at a GB proposal until one of my now four proposal gets over the line or end up on page two of the forum so come on guys you know you want to. 1. @Marklo 2. @Ray S 3. @Tim R-T-C 4. @Corsairfoxfouruncle
  14. Ooh I really love the DH10 just narrowly missed out on an Aurora kit on Evilbay this week.
  15. I got these four kits for €5 each yesterday. The Rafale will go into the French Fancy GB but if time allows I may have s go at one of the mugs or the Ansaldo. Less than a tenner II anybody ?
  16. It was masking tape which I subsequently reinforced with steel brackets and not a lot happened. I probably should remove it for subsequent molding sessions I must admit probably one of my best molding sessions as apart from cutting out holes and cleanup of the edges I don’t have a else to do to the parts.
  17. Fuselage successfully vac formed using the MK I vac box and a new frame using my trusty toaster oven and oven thermometer, haven’t we gotten awfully sophisticated Roughly cut out And nearly ready for assembly, that went surprisingly well.
  18. The Buchon gets some exhausts. Have to fabricate the covers next.
  19. Believe it or not toilet tissue and PVA can also give very good results.
  20. All the time. Great build I’m really looking forward to seeing how the battle damage works out. I presume you’ll be building a diorama for it. Also remember the 88mm was developed as an anti aircraft gun and the Russians had similar calibration weapons so imagine what a direct hit from an 88 might do to an engine. Your 110 might have been unlucky enough to get hit by AA fire then finished off by a fighter. Makes me think of a hard landing GB which would be cool, but I don’t think we’d get enjoy ugh members to get to the by fight.
  21. After a marathon priming session twelve of the sixteen are primed. Not entirely happy with any of them. I see a lot of filler and fine grit sandpaper in my immediate future
  22. The wing with a bit of primer on. The fuselage is split and ready for molding I’ve gone for a horizontal split as I find it’s easier to get the cockpit opening right. I’ll probably vac form it as I’ve run out of balsa sheet anyway.
  23. Wing finished. The foil method was something I developed on my JI build, it works well and behaves pretty much like the real thing, including paint chipping like mad if handled too forcefully. I do plan to add a J10 to the collection too, low wing GB anybody?
  24. Started to apply the corrugated foil. All the main panels attached. Control surfaces and tapes across the joints left to add ( largely in line with the construction of the JI wing)
