  1. I agree the trick with scratchbuilding is to break objects down into simple shapes that can be fabricated and assembled to get the desired object. Now I must admit I mostly scratch early aircraft and they tend to be much simpler shapes. But with practice even the most modern planes can be broken down into simpler shapes e.g the Ahrlac I’m currently working on. Thus this breaks down.. Into this And this.
  2. Prop and undercarriage on the E Undercarriage and some natty hand painting ( even I’d I say do myself ) on the F And the Fin. And the Swiss. And the Avia. So that’s eight at say 95% complete. Should have a lot of bench time tomorrow so still hopefull to get most, if not all done by the stroke of midnight on Sunday
  3. Today’s progress so far. Decals almost done New prop. Decals almost complete.
  4. So let’s see how we’re going vs the Plan The Plan: 1. Bumps, bulges and fairings - in progress 2. Pre shade - complete 3. All the undersides 65/76/78 and V1 - complete 4. White/Red/Yellow - complete 5. first camo colour 02/71/74/79/81 dark earth and the SCW E - complete 6. Mask for second camo colour - complete 7. Second camo colour 70/75/82 black dark green - complete 8. Dark blue on the Buchon - complete 9. undercarriages - five done 10. Paint the props - first coat need finishing 11. paint the wheels - in progress 12. lots and lots of decals - in progress about 80% complete 13. mass balances, pitot tubes antennae 14. Rf wires So the new plan 1. finish painting - just mottling on the Italian G6as, the Croatian and second Yugoslavian G10 and the G14. 2. Finish decalling- just the 4 above and the G2 plus a few odds and ends to add to the rest. 3. finish the undercarriages, rudders, props, bumps and bulges. 4. Antennae, mass balances and rf lines. Well at least it’s a much shorter list and eminently achievable by Sunday.
  5. Happy with the bucks. I’ll separate them and ca some 1mm sheet on the canopy joins to give me some cutting margin.
  6. Remember. It’s not about impressing each other it’s about enjoying your modelling. Tbh what with the (continuing) lockdown, my health and being ( hopefully just) currently unemployed I have a lot of time on my hands. I’d also say that while I’m enjoying the build I’m never going to try another build like this again and shall try hard to get my wip back into single figures On a separate and ironic note I’m starting to think the BOB E is my favourite from the build, followed by the TL Jaeger, then probably the Buchon ( again ironic as I used to hate it but only because it ( like the Paton tank) kept getting used in films to replicate the 109E), but that said I’m really liking the range of colour schemes of the whole group.
  7. The TL Jaeger, the second E the Hungarian G6 and V1 get some decals. Which leaves five more, now if I can just find the decals for the G2…
  8. The Mersu and the Spanish E. Counting the Swiss that makes seven partially decalled and four needing a bit more paintwork.
  9. Decals started on the first four. Will be quite an eclectic collection when done.
  10. This is the 1/48 special hobby. It’s also a pretty good kit.
  11. The whole fleet ( minus V1, which I forgot). Mammoth decal session next
  12. Seeing red The spray booth is busy again. The mummy is ready for burial, errr Swiss Croatian III/JG 53 E Todays crop, just the G14 and some mottling on the G10s to do.
  13. It is a lovely kit I did one a few years back only me being me I converted it to an A.
  14. Camo complete. Haven’t been updating this thread but the TL’s been moving along with the rest of the pack.
  15. And after a bit more jigsaw work and some sanding with my new mouse ( black and decker that is) I’m going to square off the canopy section and I set a piece or basswood for the canopy which I’ll carve in situ so as to get the contours to match. I have a typhoon and a lot of Messerschmitts to finish so probably won’t go molding till next week, but should be fun.
  16. And the reveals , all except the Swiss are decal ready. The stragglers. The two Yugoslavians and the Croatian need second camo and some mottling and the poor G14 needs two camo colours. Still I’m more amazed than anyone that I haven’t had too many paint mix ups so far in this build.
  17. A very busy spray booth. Everything now has at least one camo colour (. Except for the G14 which I forgot ) and the Bob E the TL Jaeger the Italian G6AS, the Hungarian G6 and the Avia have the second. Which makes 11 ready for decals and details, and only one ( or two) spray sessions left ( 82/83 and red)
  18. Fuselage buck, second attempt, much happier with it.
  19. Love the String bag. A plane I’ve attempted several times in my youth but only ever successfully completed recently, managing to make a fairly decent model From the Airfix kit. Would love the Tamiya version bit i qual at the price. Still will watch with interest.
  20. Black in the spray booth today. Second camo colour on the Mersu Black trim on the SCW E Black trim on the Buchon Some 76 on the wheel covers That makes six ready for decals and bits, with another six needing just the second camo colour and the remainder needing two camo colours. Getting there.
  21. slightly blurry photo but that’s the black lines done.
  22. I like to challenge myself. I also realised I hadn’t built a 109 in such a long time so this constituted getting it out of my system.
  23. The spray booths getting busy Just the base coat for the 81/82 schemes left to do, then all sixteen are either done or one colour away. The first five now ready for decals and details. The next five not too far behind.
