and the minute you put on the final pieces and set it in the display cabinet the Kinetic one will become available...well I’m still hoping anyway, there’s no way I could do what you’ve done to get as good a C 17 from this kit

It's a bit of a mundane topic compared to the fighters and jets on here...but it's progressing.

I used a ton of masking tape and had a devil of a time getting that tape to stay down with all the rivets (A smarter man would have sanded them off)

I sprayed the model with Tamiya fine white surface primer (rattle can) then acrylic white and finally with Tamiya lacquer gloss white, much masking to do yet to get the green stripes on the engines etc. as well as remove a seam on the nose before the flat black goes on.

By the way that vac. kit isn't ugly...not even close...that kit is looking at ugly in the rear view mirror, ugly is a long ways behind it!

oddly enough I didn’t see the paint creep until after I posted the pics! Since it’s acrylic green over lacquer white I buffed it away with Tamiya polishing compound on a Qtip, sharp eye there! Thanks!!

Most of the paint work is done and some decal work is in progress, as well, I've added some wear to illustrate the "dirty bird" (A term usually associated with fried Chicken) this is.

well...wait no longer, the masking just came off (overspray mostly polished out where it happened) and beginning to move ahead with assembly again.

I painted the nacelle's two tone blue (both dark blue, one metallic) and mixed the blue with equal parts black

 

 

The tape on the bottom is to protect the finish until the wheels can be attached

A marathon of masking and the overall green is on, I'll let this set up (dry) a bit before allowing my usually impatient self from handling it too much and ending up with a thumb print in the fresh paint.

Yaaaaaa, those struts wouldn't stand a snowballs hope in he.....(you know where) of supporting the model.

Such attention to detail and watch making skills, inspires me to try to strive to a higher level in my own work...I’ll never do it but it does inspire!

I got the ugly seams dealt with and the gloss white paint touched up, I began getting the gloss dark green on where I could (no masking) I will leave the fresh gloss white another day before masking to put apply the green hull bottom, wing tips etc.

The engines with .020" solder for push rod tubes;

The fuselage, patched up and re-painted. I really need to start taking pics with my phone, the camera is much better than my Canon DSLR

I was looking at reference images, the instructions call for "Brunswick green" for the green areas, and "Marine blue" for the engine nacelles. My reference pics seem to be burnt black on the engine nacelle tops and dark green below...I guess it's not the first time color call-out's have been off. I also noticed I made a mistake in using the recommended fold away underwing landing lights, the plane I'm building is supposed to have rectangular lenses in the wing leading edge with two landing lights per side (drat!) also, the plane has spinners (not included in the kit, but thankfully the scrap Twin Otter I used for parts on the one I completed are surplus. I cut off the prop hubs and drilled out the spinners to fit these props. Work continues with sanding, I found a few issues that appeared with the gloss paint on that weren't apparent previously.

I've also painted the engines and have begun adding some detail to help them look a bit better, push rod tubes are being made right now. (pics later)

the decals offer an option for a white with green trim Saskatchewan C-FAFO (where I live) so it’s going to be that one.
