A Q-400 was a dream of mine as well but after much research, information gathering, measurements and thinking about it, I realized I’d have been closer starting that conversion with a 1/48 spitfire than the Hobbycraft Dash 8-100.

I got close to what I wanted here but I’m sure better modellers could do a more accurate job of it than I have

  2. Thanks mates!

The color scheme is a bit intimidating and I had trouble getting the masks back off after painting. Some of the masks left glue residue (removed with super glue accelerator) some masks lifted paint (possibly my fault with the way I applied the paint??) some didn't lay down tightly allowing paint to bleed under so all in all a few issues there.

Very happy to have finally completed the model, which likely would never have happened without a group build and the Foxbot paint option which made the project a lot more interesting.

  3. Started shortly after purchasing many years ago when still a new release...around 2009? Lost a few parts between house moves and finally finished a few weeks ago. Rescast exhausts, Aerobonus seated pilots, Zacto intakes and pylons, Foxbot digital camouflage masks. Painted with Vallejo and Tamiya acrylics and stuck on a airliner kit stand. I've picked my team...

Sorry about the tail of the Airbus in the last pic...

As usual I strive for mediocrity, don't look to closely.

    Thank you for looking

    Nice job Chris 🏆

How did you do the conversion? I have one or 2 of these to do and don't want to use a second kit for the plugs.

hi Ray I did a build thread where I mostly post now, a modellers site for “Large Scale Planes” in the none LSP builds. But to make the conversion, I made a mold form, (cause the kit is so rare now) poured a resin copy of the kit fuselage, cut the resin fuselage into the lengths I needed for the plugs then (the hard part) worked up the nerve and cut the kit fuselage in 2 places, one in front of the wing the other behind it then just lay the model down on my plan (like a balsa kit) and fitted the plugs (to the gaps) I taped the other side of the existing kit to my lengthened part and matched the plugs to it (trying to keep it all aligned that way) I also added span to the wing tips and between the engine and fuselage, cut open the cockpit windshield and made my own windows from left over blister pack acetate sheet ….aaannnd Reskit 1/72 F 16 wheels

the markings are Nazca for the stencilling and, V-1 for the Air Canada specific stuff

thanks to all who stopped for a look and commented

  5. Something I've been monkeying with the last couple of weeks

Hobbycraft Canada (a very old kit) 1/72 -8/100 kinda converted to a 300

It is kind of crude in a few spots but it does look like a -8 300...maybe?

    Hope you like it

    Thanks for looking

Wait, this is magic!  How did you clean up the wing/fuselage seam after painting it and assembling it with the fuselage?  It looks very well smoothed over.  Thanks for sharing!

That’s Vallejo water based putty, smoothed out with a damp finger and a quick blast of Tamiya acrylic gloss white

    thanks!

Nice!  This is hardly "mundane" fare amidst all the other models of military aircraft.  It's really striking!  But oh, that yellow plastic!  I understand Heller's "rationale," but still--I can see images of it even after I close my eyes.  Excellent job in covering that over.

True, before I primed and painted the model i could see the yellow plastic glowing in the dark across the hall from the bedroom at night.

  8. I have added most of the decals I'm going to use, to be honest the Revell kit decals are junk! they're out of register and made of... cardboard. I struggled my way through getting some in place but the multi colored ones failed me and almost got the whole project pitched into the garbage. A walk away and a cup of coffee sorted out the mood and I pulled off the Revell decals, masked and painted the important ones (others will be left off) the Heller Saskatchewan decals given me by a friend who wasn't using them worked perfectly.

  9. Good progress! Well done.
Will be nice to see it come together

when I worked at the local airport here there were about 20 F 28’s next door for many years, the last few years there’s been a loader and digger destroying them all (“Canadian Regional” surplus I guess) I doubt any of them were still airworthy by their appearance.

pulling up a chair for the build.
