  1. Thank you @canberra kid that information in invaluable, especially the paint scheme. Luckily I have those already in the stash ready and waiting for when I get to paint. I think I'll need to find a reliable topcoat gloss to seal the paint and decals to give it that RAF high gloss finish. I've started on the re-modelling of the cockpit last night with the removal of the fuselage section. Next will be some careful cutting and re-modelling. Pics to follow asap. I was speaking with my brother about the build last night, as he is one of the head archivists at the MOD cartographic department, he is going to try and find a lay out map / aerial photograph of RAF Wyton circa 1971. If one exists that is? @stever219 Sounds like you were at Wyton the same time as my dad was before being shipped our to RAF Gutersloh in 1978 I believe....2 years later and apparently a damn good night as Han's bar....I made a "surprise" appearance 😂😂😂😂
  2. Absolutely out standing build so far. Really loving your scratch building too. There is an interpretation of this aircraft on one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies, Porco Rosso where Curtis plays a part in the story line I found this 1/48 kit that I am extremely tempted to get https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000IW9KME/?coliid=I3H0ZJ44VMTNO&colid=GNK3YZFNBT5&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it with this to accompany it https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0007U92XO/?coliid=I37244Q2PKXYR&colid=GNK3YZFNBT5&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
  3. Now that's a damn good idea.....I was wondering where to place ballast for the nose section. The only issue I may face is that the IP was secured using Gorilla glue to that panel. However. I can carefully cut that through and doctor it. Play about with positioning and secure the IP in the canopy aperture, With a little luck....no one will know. Once the canopy is down you can;t really see the Nav seat area What puzzles me slightly is that the kit comes with 3 seats and 3 pilots. From what I can gather the PR.9 was a 2 man crew? The other seat is dressed like the pilots seat as a just in case I needed it. From looking at the images on Canberra Kid's site I could fashion a bulkhead from plasticard perhaps?
  4. Really appreciate the input here. Especially concerning the instrument panel in front and below the main cockpit. From what you have mentioned then, Could I then remove this and the set the IP into a better position? It may take some careful work, but I think it could be achievable. The website from @canberra kid is superb from a reference standpoint. http://ipmscanberrasig.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=121676561 This drawing especially confirming the panels non existence. Some very careful work needed then.
  5. Cheers! I just need to figure out this fitment issue and where to stash the 100g+ weight for the nose haha!
  6. fantastic collection, OneI'd like to add to the Cold War collection I'm amassing...
  7. Managed to finish off the cockpit this weekend, and I think I may have cocked it up.... the aftermarket control panel, although superb in detail is a bugger to actually fit into the cock pit......by that I mean it sits too high by about 5-6mm.....the only way I could see to install it was to cut a grove into the resin and slide it over the control panel in front to make it sit some how. DSC_1517 DSC_1518 DSC_1519 DSC_1520 DSC_1522 I think I managed to make it fit with out any major issues. However, the fuselage is now going to be problematic. Trying to make this sit in the right position was tricky, and I still don't think I have it quite right. DSC_1524 DSC_1525 I then tried a dry fit to the rest of the fuselage and there are huge panel gaps and issues to deal with. For starters the port side dips into the fuselage too much now. DSC_1526 I'm hoping that when I come to install the cockpit I can address this with some cleaver gluing and positioning. As always, hints, tips or advise is always welcomed. Cheers Mike
  8. Seconded! Absolutely outstanding build!
  9. Thanks Jabba, By 1981 we were back or just coming back from Germany to then be posted up to RAF Stafford. I tried to find some footage of this Fairford display, but it would appear it does not exist, unless I am mistaken?
  10. Welcome along John, I'm taking my time with this build. I've watched quite a few displays and documentaries on the Canberra during my lunch breaks at work. though it's not a PR.9, this is an interesting variant of the B-57 Canberra with NASA as a high altitude research aircraft. Could be a great subject for someone to perhaps build one day?
  11. Thanks for support gents. From speaking with my dad when he was at RAF Wyton, his bit was a unit with transport command that was separate to the operations to 58 Squadron and the PR.9's but they were still there. The seats are basic and I did almost fork out for the MK3 MB seats, but they look decent enough for the subject. One area I want to try and custom build is the large 14" camera in greater detail with our forking out for the resin replacement. If anyone has any pictures or reference material to the belly camera bays that would be superb Will try and do more to the Cockpit soon
  12. Managed some bench time over the weekend with the ejector seats and some of the cockpit built and semi painted... The makeshift ejector pull cords seemed to have worked well with the seats painted up with some weathering. I may need a little more but not sure as yet. DSC_1501 Cockpit partially built and on its way, first ejector seat installed....this is a BIG cockpit. DSC_1506 I also started on the CMK flight controls display, not entirely sure how I am going to install it in, but I'm sure I can figure it out. _20180714_214649 Thoughts, hints and tips as always are more than welcome.
  13. Gorgeous build. I still have a 1:48 tamiya build to do as a tribute to its designer Jiro Horikoshi. Also the subject to Studio Ghibli's master piece , The Wind Rises. I highly recommend this movie if you are a fan of the Zero
  14. Small update, Managed to get some bench time last night, and has a slight brain ave....the smaller loop on a paper clip is seemingly the perfect size for the ejector seat pull cord. Cut to size and glued on very carefully. DSC_1475 OK, it may not be 100% accurate, but it gives the necessary effect when painted up, to which I am half way through at the moment.
  15. Watched the fly past, best part by far was the BBMF and the Typhoon fly past. Slightly envious of my brother who is on the Mall this afternoon watching it all, also as part of his Birthday celebrations.
  16. Great looking build, and you;re right...who doesn't love the TSR2? I'd love to build the 1:48 scale of this kit for my cold war collection. Looking forward to your dio build though
  17. Really nice work here. I quite like the halo effect in your cammo pattern too. When you get to the decal stage, make sure you have plenty of patience on hand, especially with the registration marking on the undercarriage. took me a few evenings to do it. I'd recommend securing the flap in the "up" position with some blu-tac or equivalent, applying them and then slicing where required. A steady hand and nerves of steel will be needed.
  18. The photo etch cockpit display turned up. Looks pretty decent too with extra detail on the cockpit. DSC_1388 With regards to the ejector pull chords I'm opting for the standard seats and fashioning some chords from some used guitar wire. Pics to follow, if successful.
  19. I'm signed up for this one....What a subject to build!
  20. Welcome along! looking forward to seeing your builds!
  21. Out standing collection and some really great work there too! Credit to all who built the collection. No Blackburn Beverly? I guess the 1/144 scale that is available wouldn't fit in?
  22. So it being.....all be it slowly at first as there's a small tournament in Russia that's going on that has taken some of my attention. First up was the sourcing of a new control panel for the Cockpit with a bit more detail. My thinking is that to keep costs down and not to spiral out of control, which could easily happy. Not mu can be seen once the canopy is down but I wanted what could be seen to at least be good. SO I found this little beaut on eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CMK-1-48-Canberra-PR-Mk-9-Instrument-Panel-Q48136/332352106619?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3Dd7c5e6ef50ef449d95e99d8eda5b8e58%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D332352106619%26itm%3D332352106619&_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507 Should be here by Thursday. In preparation for the arrival I made a small start on the Cockpit but painting up the base for the panelling. DSC_1386 I'm not massively impressed by the detail on the MB Ejector seats though...they seem to be lacking in detail. I'd have liked the to have at least their ejector pull cords? DSC_1387 Pilots seat Navigators Seat I think Ideally I would try and scratch build the pull cords but insure what media to use. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking some fine wire bent into the appropriate shape then glued into place?
  23. I am tempted to get the new tooled kit from Airfix....It does look pretty decent. I may do a tribute to Alan Pollock, the Hunter pilot who flew under Tower Bridge. https://www.forces.net/radio/raf-pilot-who-flew-through-tower-bridge New tooled Hunter expected October this year. https://www.airfix.com/uk-en/hawker-hunter-f6-1-48.html
  24. thanks guys, and @Lord Riot your Hunters are superb! The Academy kit is great, the cock pit is a bit pants, but generally its a great kit to build...the decaling alone took 3 weeks to do on and off....well worth picking up @Unfinished project It didn't cost all that much either. There are options to make either the FGA6 or 9, depending on the marking you want to do. I will admit I made a balls up with the insignia on the tail fin. the flag on the port side is upside down.....oops! Next up with be a PR.9 Canberra....
