  1. Some of us are old enought to remember building the kit while the actual Gemini missions were being flown.. AARGH...!
  2. The Blackbox/Avionix pit is really not that mich of an improvement over that kit supplied one , at least as regards the instrument panels , still quite shallow, with indistinct detail. One soloution , if you can find it , is a very early Eduard set the GR1 , with etched overlays for front and back instrument panels, but now like hens teeth , I found one after a couple of years looking on E-bay , and I won't tell you how much I paid for it! To be honest , dig deep and get the Aires pit , it fits beautifully seems to be very accurate(generis IDS/GR1), and goes a long way to enhance the Revell Tornado , (the jet pipe set is pretty great too!)
  3. The whole aftermarket/conversion market for the Tamiya F-4's is pretty weak, limited decals, and those conversions that were available were mostly from Cutting Edge, long gone ... Sniff..... CE did make the effort to produce intakes, weapons , and their excellent B/N conversions , along with slatted wing upgrades fror the E/S - Isracast have only just produced Slatted wing set , and no sign of any repalcement for the B.. pity as is really was an excellent set PE , and Resins sets are available , but if you want a late model E based on the Tamiya kit, its going to cost you! And its this perceived unpopularity of 32nd kits that seems to ensure that we'll never see the range of versions that 48th scale modelers take for granted, afetr all "how many 32nd F-4are you ever going to build", well in my case 10, with 2 on the pending pile.. and I'm far from unique!
  4. Greg , the RRP for the CE set was arond the £220 mark , I know , I paid for one , but since the company folded the day after I ordered it , I had to get my money back from the card company , and say what you like about the overall quality of the kit, it was comprehensive On E-bay the set was originally going for the £450 figure, however the last time one showed up , it went for £1500+ So there is a real pent up demand from people like myself who specalise 1/32 for a decent Brit Phantom
  5. Yee Haaa... best news I've had for a long time ... I knew I never started my last F-4J for a reason .. Homebee.. you've made old bitter cynical modeller just a bit happier !
  6. Beautiful work Piero , although after using your Resin pieces, I really should't have expected anything else! I was plannng to post some pics on my almost complete GR7 here , ZD408 with the Telic applied shark mouth , but to be honest I think I'll pass , compared to your work , mine is an also ran at best!
  7. Count me in the No catagory , now I've spent more on a kit in the past, for example my ZM Sykraider order came to around £200, but I have to think that the £170 is a mistake on the part of whoever is setting the UK price , I'm used to shelling out big bucks for 32nd kits , but this is just too much , when compared to the US price , to mind unjustifiably so .. I know I can probably bring it in from the far east , or the Us, but again we face the wrath of HMRC.. and the with that the price differential just disappears... £110-£130 I could justify, but 170 , no way , especially not on new company ..
  8. As far as I know , and the original designer is a member of the LSP forum where this info came from, the 1/32nd P-61 never progressed beyond a wish list project , there was essentially an agreement to exchange info with another member of the LSP forum , but as far as I know no metal was cut, no design work was done , so I don't believe there is any rip off going on , unless its between Great Wall and Hobby Boss...
  9. In his autobiograph he mentions the efforts of the ground crew when removing the paint from his D using high octane petrol and rags, this suggests that the distemper based paint that were used to paint the invasion stripes would have been the first to come off!!, not to mention the skin from their hands! I built my Old Crow using the Tamiya P-51 , pretty well OOb , using the details on Bud andersons own site
  10. Now if they would scale them up to "The One True Scale - 1/32" TM
  11. I'm building ZD408/37 using the Trumpter 32nd GR7 kit, does this mean I leave the LERX in the kit alone?
  12. The aires wheel bay fits PERFECTLY, almost no cutting required , highly recommended , As for the correction set , its ok , the set provides relacement antennas, nose wheel and nose wheel door, it is worth the expense , but in my opinion lack of it dosen't make a huge difference either way Oh and if any of you want a crisp brand new Wolfpack Sufa cockpit set for you 32nd I , PM , I've got a spare unopened one , very resonable price !
  13. If you watch the Tomcat Vs "Zero" sequence closley you can spot the point when the Cat almost loses it , and has to do a full wind spread, and powerup very quickly , otherwise he's going in! apparently the flying sequence was filmed off the East coast of the US, , the cat pilots wern't allowed to be paid for their flying , so the Film company put them up in a fancy hotel , all expenses paid , and that also caused a huge row.. still would have been worth it to play they way they did in the movie.. BTW, would a AiM-9 been able to lock onto a Zero's exhaust ? Good luck witht he dio - hockum the movie may be , but I saw it in the cinema when it first came out , and I have a very soft spot for it ..
  14. I picked mine up at Lucky models for £55 or so , and used their October offer of $2 surface shipping , got a bunch of other items in the order, and they're all on a slow boat between here and Hong Kong
  15. Well if my 32nd GR7 ever gets here , on a boat somewhere between Hong Kong and the UK) , I'll build it online for you , assuming Aires get their finger out! Thaks for the Academy sufa , I have a Sniper Pod and LGBs
  16. ModelZone in aberdeen are stocking hobby Boss... Have a word...
  17. the difference between a clapped out 1970#s ford Escort, and a Ferrari 599... or night and day if you prefer... The revell kit is simplified, it does have engraved panel lines, some that the mad Matchbox trencher would be proud of .. walk away quickly ! I've built 3 tamiya F-14's , and a one Trumpter one , and to be honest , intakes issues aside , I'd take trumpter every time , The idea of spending 3 weeks prepping the airframe of a Tamiya Tomcat , rescribing , filling in the odd depressions , and hacking off the armour plating spabs on the nose of the beast - you can keep it! Oh and the joy of building a D out of the box without hacking the kit to pieces in order to graft in resin bits.. brilliant!
  18. For my Tamiya P-51 , I used this set , which as you can see comes with star Bars, and stenciling Other decal sheets are available!
  19. Er. Perhaps because a) 1/350th is a perfect scale for warships , large enough for decent levels of details , and still small enough to fit on a shelf & As some of us get older anything under 350th becomes impossible to work with .. Personally I'd prefer it in 1/72nd ..
  20. Just working on the Trop F that I got for Xmas last year , and although i'm not a Luftwaffe fan by any means , the F series 109 kits are a dream to build.. highly recommended !, (just wish they were a touch cheaper!)
  21. theres a lot of hostility here as regards 32nd.. pity ! I have to refute the startment that a 32nd Mustang is "Too Dammed Big" , a 32nd su-27/a-10 even the proposed B-17 are all big , To me a 1/32 mustang is a perfect size, , lots of detail ,and thanks to people like Jennings increasing amounts of aftermarket options now available ,(I have 2 built , a Tamiya D on order ) I'm not anti any scale , there are some scales I stuggle to see the point of , especially as poor eyesight take a hold, but I'd never go out of my way to decry specific scales. Ok not everyone has a house or modelling facilities to work in the larger scales , fine I accept that as regards my circmstances I'm lucky , but the feeling of anti Large Scale modelling that occasionally permiates this forum is a little off putting at times. Each to his own
  22. Hopefully in a platonic , manly way !.. Actually I saw the 3 of them at Perth this year and had a nice chat .. it was fun ,scary thing is that they havn't changed a bit , (either for the better or for the worse!)
  23. GTI models is the one I think you mean , one of the only places that had stock of Trumpter models , owners retired to spain , so the rumours had it .. great little shop , Rick , I'm sure you'll have a great time at the AMs , they really are a good bunch , give my regrds to Dave, John and duncan , and watch for the reaction!
  24. Beautiful build, i've got one of these gathering dust , now its begenning to look as tho' it might just get built , using this thread as reference - thanks And isn't the Trumpter kit great value for money , less than half the RRP of the Hasagawa F's
  25. A fellow loon , in my case Fae torry Well you might try "banff Strike Wing at War" ..by Les Taylor or "a Seperate Little War" ..Andrew D Bird, both are available in Waterstones on Union Bridge , both highly recommended Or via amazon Here
