  1. Cheers mate, The rigging around the forward mast/ fighting top was nuts & I probably could’ve added one or two cables. But I err on the side of caution, as it’s was getting a tad crowded.
  2. Yeah you are not wrong there with Flyhawk’s PE for the twin 37mm guns. I went & use Niko twin 37mm guns for my Königsberg build. Might have a crack at the PE guns during the 21/22 Wet Season for shits & giggles, & see how I go.
  3. Thank you for your reply Jamie, Unfortunately I have to apologise, as I was managed to get access to my hobby box last night and I realised I did actually grab a tin of 507B RN02. So Black, 507B RN02 & 507C NARN22 should be ok use? As I’m not building for Competitions, but I’m planning doing something else on more grand scale.
  4. Doing the small Arado float plane, I elected to do the PE struts which got a little bit untidy at first. But the end result isn’t bad, but I had to used the plastic supplied canopy as I mangled the PE & the rear MG went pin in the tweezers. The end result after priming The troublesome aft mast, this has caused some grief, so I’ve made custom mast so it maybe to short or to long. Whoops left out some railing above the bridge where the 20mm guns are. Rigging completed, properly should’ve started from the aft mast & my way forward. But I did the more complex forward/ fighting top mast antenna farm first, which later check mated as I the rest. Adding the wings for the aft twin 88’s The next four pictures are various scenes in colour or B/W
  5. Before I head back into hospital, I thought I better finish this model of Königsberg off. So the past 2weeks I’ve been slowly hammered at this model which I finally completed on Sunday minus the wee plane which don’t have the paint for atm. The fighting top was attached to the main mast and it fitted very nicely. Fitting the aft the AA Directors & again it all went smoothly, no snapped or missing parts. The main antenna mast, which goes above the fighting top. The main antenna mast was done & i think I’ve may’ve assemble this bottom about face the more I keep looking at it. Now I really balls up here, the ladders shown are for the platforms in front of the twin 37mm guns which in the next picture I should’ve also attached the railing before it became a tad too crowded. See the previous picture Looking from the rear towards the pointy bit with masts attached Looking from the bow towards aft with the masts attached Side on view so far, looking good so far. The 1st of the 2 ships cranes. In both of the ships cranes I decided to use the plastic poles instead of the PE supplied poles as it required more PE parts to be attached which were ridiculously small. I also managed to stuff both of these cranes up as well, the searchlight baskets a meant to be slightly off to each other. But overall this crane was very easy to assemble. This crane is missing a few parts, lost one part to the carpet monster as a I didn’t use a enough super glue after this picture was taken and two ridiculously small plastic parts which may be the cable wheels? But real stuff up here is the jib, the bottom about bottom about face as it should be on the right not the left & I also stuffed up the searchlight baskets. I’ll upload the rest either tomorrow or before Friday as the internet is awfully slow here in the hospital and there is very important cricket match on as well, which hoping I can watch on the pay too view telly.
  6. Thanks for your reply, I probably should’ve asked that question last night when I posted the original question as I have both books & hadn’t properly sat down & research before developing my COA to the build. But it’s interesting to know both Cruiser SQN’s had different camouflage schemes, which I wasn’t aware of & something I need to take note down the track. I’m quite keen to more on the subject and I believe one of the Dido Class Cruisers was apparently painted in Mountbatten Pink which I would to do once I clear my current back log.
  7. Hi Jaime, Thanks for enquiring about my health, it’s been creeping up on me since Easter when the wife & the father-in-law with his partner & I were at our bush Estate & at main residence. Yes that was going to my next question into Alan Raven’s books which I both have and I should’ve ask last night, as I was little confused with him mentioning the Green & Brown camouflage scheme. But then goes on to mentioning 507A 507C & Black but I see @dickrd has reply as denoting the difference between the 2 Cruiser SQN’s. Now I have 507A old stock & 507C NARN wouldn’t make much of a difference either way and I should be right using the generic Black or should I use the Tire Black instead? Cheers EXF
  8. I’ve actually just finished this build (minus the Aircraft as I don’t have the correct paints atm , this afternoon Darwin local time. Will post pictures once I get my poo-poo in order as I’ve been having a bit of a bad run with things atm.
  9. Hi everyone, I’m after a substitute brown for my HMS Naiad build as I have the all the other colours, the only browns I have are Humbol paints. Heading back into Hospital again for 3wks with my PSTD, Major Depression etc, so I’ve got this build or the Tamyia Gneisenau with a Flyhawk PE set with Sovereign Colourcoats Paints as per usual. Cheers, EKF
  10. Slowly got back into this today, as the monsoon is slowly returning. As I have been playing catch with gardening, mowing and put a pad down for our 35k lt water tank. Finally the some paint has finally arrived late last week. I’m using Sovereign Colourcoats yellow, than your standard flat , Matt yellows. As a couple of books I have got can’t make up their mind on what shade of yellow used. Before the turrets were painted Red as the RN were painting there’s Yellow a tad underhanded & unsportsmanlike in my books by the RN lol. It’s a more a pale or off yellow and give it this ship operated in Nth & Baltic Seas it would’ve probably stuck out like dogs balls? A little bit of touch up tomorrow and the guns are good to go. Almost finished the 4 single 20mm guns today, but managed to mangle one of them. So I’m using one from the kit now.
  11. Oh btw, just another plain old boring painting day this afternoon on the single 20mm guns and the ships small boats and I’ll have some pictures to tomorrow.
  12. Yes I’m very impressed with those Niko guns, but the Flyhawk ones look very nice as well and knowing Flyhawk plastic being so soft I’m poo-poo scared of breaking the twin 37mm gun barrels. But I will probably assemble one in due course, but the PE sets for the 37mm & 20mm guns are out of this world and you almost need a PhD in origami to assemble them as you with the ships catapult which I have to tackle sometime this week. I’m going for an all brass mast now, as I’ve given up. The Flyhawk Boffins must be using some sort of glue that is obviously banned in the West. As it does seem strange that they have plastic on brass? Cheers, Al
  13. This afternoon I attached the 4 twin 37mm guns to the Ship. Finally finished the 4 single 20mm guns and sorted out the ships small boats. I decided not to do the PE on the small boats as I didn’t feel comfortable that I would do a good enough job for these wee boaties.
  14. Today I finished off painting the twin 37mm guns. Also started on the single 20mm guns and again they a from Niko. Tomorrow’s effort will trying to attach the shoulder supports, they very similar to those found on the 20mm Oerlikon gun.
  15. Well the wee aft mast is not working, so I would love to know what the heck the boffins at Flyhawk were using to assemble this mast? I’ve started on the 4 twin 37mm guns. I’m using twin 37mm guns from Niko as I thought it might be easier to do than the Flyhawk ones that come 3 pieces. Tomorrow I’ll start on the single 20mm canons A close up of the twin 37mm gun
  16. Today was checking up yesterday’s handy work. The mast that is attached to the rear most funnel the lower yardarms are not straight, so I’m hoping when I do the rigging it should twist straight into place? The fighting top mast are looking pretty good as well, but aft mast (in the middle) which is attached to the aft superstructure is being very problematic to a point of being a pain in the backside. Plastic mast with a piece of brass rod attached to the the plastic. Hmm obviously the boffins at Flyhawk got this to work during product testing? Might give it one more try tomorrow afternoon. Oh btw, that brass PE piece to the left is a part of the ships catapult Apart from that everything else is ticking along very well and I’ll probably start on the light Flak guns or the ships small boats with a bit of touch up painting
  17. Mast day this afternoon, Been slowly building the masts for the Königsberg build. I still have the aft mast to finish and the top part of the fighting top on the forward mast. Most of the mast have been primed, so once the others are finish then I will start assembling then to the build.
  18. Not a lot done this afternoon, just a lot of boring painting and some preparation work for tomorrow which is also boring. Also I made another contribution to Jamie’s retirement fund aka Sovereign Colour Coats and to find out this morning I ordered the wrong paint even though I wrote it down. So I’ll blame my meds on this lol, rest a sure it won’t affect this build atm but it may with future DKM builds.
  19. Today was an effort to get things going this afternoon. Had to take a break after the 30mins to clear my mind, but anyway I got a few things. The upper bridge was glued this afternoon and it went to plan. As I was very concerned that the fragile plastic support legs to the rear of the upper bridge would snap off or break. The mast was only meant to be a test fit as I need to put in a ladder underneath the searchlight platform, but it wouldn’t come out so it’s now in place without any glue. Everything else that was fitted to the model like the twin 88’s, the forward funnel & forward Ventilators all went in as clockwork. Probably start on some of the fine detail parts and the other funnel including the mast yardarms. This build is trucking along quite well atm and the only issue at the atm is I have no yellow paint for the main gun turret roofs. P.S btw the thingy in the middle on the deck is not glued on atm, as it’s awaiting for the other funnel and ventilators etc.
  20. Been working on the funnels and the main mast the afternoon. I didn’t use all the PE for the funnels as the actual plastic mould looks pretty good. Assembling the mast was interesting to say the last and I realised it have been a boo-boos after had primed the mast, but it’s nothing to major. Just the yardarms and some circle thingy.
  21. Yesterday’s painting went decidedly well, with some touch ups this afternoon which allowed for some assembly. Both forward & aft superstructure are on, with the 4 Torpedo tubes. In the process of doing the stairs for both lower & upper parts of the forward superstructure. Which should have in place tomorrow afternoon and possibly the main mast as well. The other for to morning afternoon is to start in finishing the funnels and some other deck parts.
  22. A slow day on a crappie Nth’ern NT Wet Season day that was equally frustrating, but in the end a rewardingly day. Assembling the PE was hell today, superglue didn’t want to play and when did it stuck to the wrong things, PE falling apart at the wrong time and breaking the odd part along the way or disappearing for a moment. Amongst all the chaos of modelling in 1/700, I managed to actually achieve today’s goals at where I wanted to be late this afternoon with all items in the photo primed. Oh Minus the funnels and whatever is on that fame going to tomorrow’s job if all the painting goes well. Tomorrow which is going to another wet monsoonal day and in fact to at least next Friday atm. Well be painting and possibly some more PE work as well. Oh before I forget, got my paints from the Postie this morning yippee.
  23. Sorry would love to help out with this, but I haven’t brought this Flyhawk Kit atm, as the wife went bonkers at my current stash and unfinished ships due to a lack of correct paint.
  24. Slow work on the superstructure today as the upper bridge had been wee tag problematic as the PE was a tag to long and the supports for the upper bridge were very fragile which is nothing unusual with Flyhawk model. But extra care is required when separating them from the spure
  25. First of apologies for the a updates to this build as the modem blew up last Sunday during one of our famous Nth’ern NT electrical storms as the cricket aka 4th Test and Agnew bloopers was more important than the Modem. Anyway, the main & secondary guns have been primed , which I managed to start painting them today and I also knocked the paint can over during the process, but managed to save some paint as well. I didn’t put the brass barrels on the twin 88’s as I was starting to chance my arm with the 3 gun turrets, a bit too much. The hull has come along pretty good, with a some minor touch ups this afternoon and I started on the super structure as well. With the amount of rain we are receiving at the moment, I’m going to get a far bit done this week and on the good news front the paint has finally arrived at the postie late this afternoon after I had picked up the new modem. But unfortunately it’s invasion day to tomorrow here in Oz, so everyone is on the sauce, cooking bangers, lamb chops on the bbq or protesting etc. I personally will a quite period of reflection of my Dad’s Irish side of Australia Royalty royalty aka convicts and the Redcoats of both the Irish & Nth’ern England at being vanished to the colonies.
