  1. Well I’ve a tab busy getting the garden beds organised, but I’ve managed to get a few hrs in the afternoon to do the aft mast for the HMS Aurora build. Unfortunately I had a few issues as the antenna fell apart just I was to about to glue it altogether & thence it’s a bit messy. The aft mast painted this afternoon and I probably won’t touch the again for a few days or sometime next as I’m getting my 1st jab tomorrow and I’m normally out bush this week as it’s my Comsuper Pension week today. https://flic.kr/p/2mbfGGw
  2. The correct pictures are uploaded & bit of a bugger with the English Football, was hoping they would win. Oh well better luck nexts time. The new manger must do right at last with this team unlike many others that have gone before.
  3. So sorry folks, I’ve uploaded the worry bloody photo’s tonight. I’ll fix this cock up tomorrow morning. Anyway go the Italians as disappears under smokescreen for the tradesmen entrance. Here’s a link to my Twitter page
  4. Well after 4 afternoons the fore mast is finally finished. Now I’m too bloody scared to touch it, let alone paint it now.
  5. A wee bit of an update at where I’m at with Aurora build. The Fore Mast is coming along quite nicely atm, the length is a tad too long, but since I got this far I can’t be stuff fixing it. And who’s going to know outside of the purist? Coming to a decision point, do I paint the mast & install it or do I go the whole hog & put the Radar Antenna, then paint & install? I really don’t want to push my luck atm.
  6. Started to build the two masts this afternoon & I decided not push it any further as they look almost prefect.
  7. Well this build is the next one on the list for completion. The forward funnel was glued and I did the measurements for the forward mast as the plastic one is way to soft. The gibberish on the paper are the measurements for the forward mast. That I will start to construct tomorrow afternoon.
  8. Finally finished this build this afternoon. Had a few issues with the top antenna, but that was it.
  9. Whoops sorry about that Alan, the Internet since the Darwin Lockdown has been like watching grass grow in the Nth’ern NT Dry Season bloody painful to say the least.
  10. Well I’m getting closer to finally finishing this build off, was hoping to have the decals on this afternoon. But it didn’t exactly go to plan as the rigging took most of the after to do and slowly put the various parts that fell off over the last few days back on etc.
  11. This is what I used for the rigging, I’ve tried some other stuff and I didn’t like. But I see others swear by it when the use it for their rigging.
  12. The aft mast was glued on this afternoon after the some additional rigging was attached courtesy of one of Norman Friedman books. The 1st of the antenna wires between the aft & the main mast was attached. But unfortunately a few parts were broken as well & lucky I’ve got some spares.
  13. Well not much to offer today, but 2hrs of work on the main mast incl rigging with a smashing headache at the end of it.
  14. HMS Hermes is almost finished apart from her Air Group, I’ve pull this wee L Class Destroyer out a couple of days ago. The main mast isn’t glued atm, as it’s not setting properly in it’s correct position. Yesterdays afternoon work, with gluing the railing. This afternoons work, until the main mast give me the shits. https://flic.kr/p/2m8SVG1
  15. Are doing old Faithful F421 on her final Operational Deployment during INTERFET 99-00? When she found 2 TNI Subs, 1st Sub when the NZBatt1 did their over the beach landing in Suai. Which was the 1st time the NZDF had conducted a over the beach landing since 3NZ Div (my NZ Great Uncle was on 3 NZDiv) in the Solly’s in WW2 and it showed as the NZBatt1 landing went tits up. Had the TNI decided to mark a bit of a stand, it could got a tad ugly for the Kiwis. The 2nd Sub find was just off Dili between Dili harbour & the big island I’ve forgot the name off atm, which really put the cat amongst the pigeons not only with us defending the main Airport. But the also INTERFET’s very vulnerable Sea Lanes of Communications between Dili & Darwin, to a point the old plans for the proposed RNZAF A4 deployment to Bacau Airport, for a possible P3 Orion deployment from NZ & Oz if the TNI Subs kept up its shenanigans. But old F421 was rather like old SGT Miller’s suitcase as the F421, had a few tricks without using lethal deadly force which they could’ve used under the INTERFET ROE.
  16. Well I almost finished Hermes today, if I hadn’t lost a 20mm gun as the rigging was completed late this afternoon. Just have to fix up the 20mm gun & a bit of crack at add some weathering tomorrow afternoon.
  17. I recall has name being mentioned quite a few times, there were a others as well from memory and a few left the RN in disgust as well at the politics of the RAF vs FAA & vs the rest of the RN at where the FAA & Carrier should be heading. Must buy David Hobbs book “The Dawn of Carrier Strike” to add to my ever growing Naval Library. To me & being ex RAAF, the FAA got screwed over the RAF in the interwar yrs & then later when Joint Harrier Force was stood up with the Admiralty rolling over like a puppy dog wanting its tummy scratched. The same happened here in Oz during the 80’s with HMAS Melbourne and later with the two LPH’s & the F35. With the RAAF’s CAF Geoff Brown a few yrs ago saying the RAAF can defend the Fleet which is a load of BS given the size of the current RAAF Air Assets & past history of stupid Senior Air Force big wigs saying such garbage.

  19. The ugly looking fighting top does look out of place on a aircraft carrier. From what I’ve read on Hermes, the powers at be saw Hermes as cruiser thence the 6 5.5 guns being directed from the fighting top/ scouting ship using its aircraft to scout ahead of the main battle fleet. Hermes was meant to get a couple of major refits before & during the war prior to her sinking in the India Ocean, but all she had was minor refits here & there, her last one of any significance was at the Simonstown Dockyard in Cape Province SA. Hadn’t she been sunk it’s likely she would’ve got a major refit here in Oz aka Garden Island NSW or over in NZ’s RNZN Devonport Dockyard as she was going to be a part of the ANZAC Cruiser SQN for operations in the SW Pacific. Which would’ve seen her being equiped with the NZ built DSIR Radar, (don’t ask me which one as they built a number of Radars during the war) which apparently was actually better than what the Brits had as it could handle the tropics a lot better.
  20. This afternoon I finished off the rigging for the aft mast, the flag pole or whatever it’s called in pirate/ jack speak. But unfortunately I have no battle ensign as both prove to be a tricky to attach and I also got the main antenna wires up as well.
  21. A few pictures since Saturday, we have been in lockdown since 1pm Sunday local time now 1pm Friday atm thanks to NSW’s/ Sydney cockup. So I have a funny feeling I might get this finished by Friday, providing I don’t have stuff ups with the rigging that I started late yesterday afternoon. https://flic.kr/p/2m8c1aG I will have today’s pictures uploaded shortly.
  22. A very frustrating afternoon when plans A& B went to snot which bugged a few things ups. Anyway here are today’s pictures. The addition railings added late this morning The carley floats, I still don’t seem to understand how to use these Mig washes? Plan A & B went to snot very fast this afternoon and now I have to paint the white lines which I should’ve done before the I glued the superstructure. The carley floats installed, the first of the white lines are painted & it’s slowly looking like a Aircraft Carrier.
  23. A wee bit of a slow day assembling various parts to the hull this afternoon, with a wee bit of more painting on the carley floats, anchor and priming the additional railings. Glued the superstructure this morning before lunc The starboard side, thinking of extending the deck railing either side to the length of the respective deck mount weapons. Anyway looking good for tomorrow works Looking from the port, which is looking pretty good atm. Looking down the flight deck, with the traps painted, the rear 4” deck gun in place with the crane finally installed after a wee bit work required to fit in place. Look down the flight deck from the bow, the two 4” deck guns & the 2pdr Pom Pom quad in place down the starboard side. A few more ships on the slipway after the HMS Hermes build, too tease you.
  24. Well I’m back home from the hospital, unfortunately it worked out for me at the hospital here in Darwin. So while I was unpacking my hobby box, I pulled this out on Saturday afternoon. Did a bit of work on it on Sunday afternoon and thought I had uploaded the pictures last night while listening to the BCC’s TMS commentary of WTC Final. Anyway here’s Sunday’s work and hopefully today’s work from this afternoon as well. This afternoon was spent on doing the AA weapons and showed here are the 20mm guns being painted. I thought I had nailed the painting of the traps, but alas it didn’t work out. So I’ve allowed it to dry overnight, another crack at it tomorrow afternoon. Just adding the boot topping for the funnel, with a view to add more PE tomorrow and add a couple more range finders before this sub assembly is complete Had to build a new aft mast for rigging later on & the two range finders. In which I had to build a new range finder as one of the arms was broken. Actually today’s pictures was only 2 and were a bit crappie, so I’ll combine todays effort with tomorrow’s work.
