  1. First of 2023. Revell's new boxing of their Typhoon in the recent RAF display scheme. It's quite an old kit with all that that entails. On the whole fairly decent but one or two problem areas fit-wise. The decals were OK but in places quite a poor fit. Anyway, here it is. zz20230201_093237 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20230201_093250 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20230201_093304 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20230201_093311 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20230201_093409 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

  3. I put 50 g in the nose but there isn't much room. It makes the whole model pretty heavy. As Sergei said, most things fit OK but the wings were troublesome. Physically they cannot fit they way they are intended so I trimmed a bit off the tabs to make them fit. I also marked lots of smaller items with a pencil to make sure I didn't get them the wrong way round, especially the engine exhaust assemblies. It is well worth building though. It is pretty big and its width makes painting and construction awkward. Fortunately it isn't very long. The wingspan is 73cm and the B-2A, YB-35 and YB-49 all have exactly the same wingspan. I'll post a family picture during the week.
  4. The last one of my flying wing trio, this is Modelcollect's 1/72 B-2A. A very good kit with largely excellent fit and lots of detail. It is let down by poor instructions with no colour information for the internal structure and it has very thin decals that needed treating very gently. Finished in Extra Dark Sea Grey, a pretty good match for Gunship Gray FS36118, as 89-0127, "Spirit of Kansas" from the Two Bobs sheet. This B-2 appeared at Fairford in 1997. It was lost in an accident at Andersen AFB on Guam in 2008. xx20221210_142759 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20221210_142746 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20221210_142835 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20221210_142859 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20221210_142924 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20221210_143011 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  5. Thanks for the comments. A special thanks to Sylvain Hautier of Syhart decals. His sheets are well designed and laid out with great fit and instructions for complex schemes. Great masks included as well.
  6. This is the Kinetic Mirage 2000 in 1/48 scale. Decent enough kit with no real problems. Finished in the Lafayette 100th anniversary markings seen in 2016 as part of the RAMEX Delta team. The decals are from Syhart and are excellent. The finish involved some reasonably complex masking but the masks are provided in the decals set and work very well. It was my first (partially successful) attempt at a the graduated finish from black into grey. aa20221117_211449 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20221117_211441 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20221117_211426 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20221117_211416 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20221117_211408 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20221117_211508 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  7. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Much appreciated.
  8. My latest effort. This is the Hobbyboss 1/48 Rafale C. Overall a nice kit with some odd fit problems that may have of my own making. The decals are from Syhart and fitted and performed beautifully. 20221020_092815 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20221020_092806 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20221020_092752 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20221020_092736 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20221020_092725 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20221020_092719 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20221020_092711 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20221020_092658 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  9. A B-2 is not quite next but is coming soon.
  10. Thanks for the kind words folks. Much appreciated. Here's a couple of photos of the YB-35 and the YB-49 that I built a year or two ago. 20220930_114352 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20220930_114250 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  11. Latest effort. The Italeri boxing of the Northrop YB-35. I've previously built the YB-49 so I knew what to expect. Overall the kit is OK and the decals are excellent. 12. My first build of the year... This is Revell's 1/32 Bell X-1. Fairly decent and simple build. 13. Further to a previous comment on the 595 Sqn Mk.XII., I have this image of MB845 at Aberporth. Note the cut-off cannon and late-war roundels on the wing upper surface. Spitfire XII MB845 7B - Z 595 Sqn Aberporth_3 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

  15. Not my comfort zone at all - I'm normally found in the aircraft zone. For a while I'd wanted to build a Cutty Sark model and I started the Airfix kit a few months ago but parts issues and poor fit meant that I eventually gave up on it. Undeterred I got hold of the Academy kit, which is a much better kit with no real issues. I have no idea on the accuracy of the kit or my efforts at it but I'm reasonably pleased the way that it's turned out. Anyway, here it is. z20211205_202610 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr z20211205_202620 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  16. Thanks for the kind comments folks. Much appreciated. Check the parts. I had a couple missing and two left tailplane top surfaces. The fuselage was badly warped at the nose and needed a modicum of persuasion to get the halves togtether. Getting the wings to fit to the assembled fuselage is challenging at best and a bit of material needed removing from the landing gear bay to get it all to fit. Apart from that it goes together surprisingly well.
  17. One that's been in the stash for a few years. The Airfix 1/24 Hurricane is quite an old kit but actually isn't too bad. The fit is pretty decent with the exceptions being the getting the fuselage halves together and getting the wings to fit. Nothing major then... I added a Yahu photetched instrument panel and an HGW Sutton harness. The model is finished in Hataka/ Vallejo Acrylics dark earth, dark green and sky and using Topnotch camouflage masks which worked very well. The aircraft is in the markings of P3576 GN-A as flown by Flight Lieutenant James Brindley Nicolson VC, RAF No.249 Squadron, Boscombe Down, 16th August 1940. The markings were applied using Topnotchmasks and sprayed on. It was a new technique for me and I think it worked out OK. 18. The decals are great. The stripes fit perfectly. They do tend to stick where they are put so careful positioning is recommended. Thanks for the comments folks. Much appreciated.
  19. This is the Kinetic F-16AM in 1/48 scale. Ididn't find it the easiest kit and as there are lots of options, I think there are more parts left over than I actually used. Finished in Hataka red range acrylics and with the excellent Syhart decal sheet depicting FA-57 as it appeared at Fairford in 2019. The artwork is superb. zz20211018_203811 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203808 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203752 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203745 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203722 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  20. My attempt at the Kinetic Starfighter. An excellent kit with lots of options. I finished it as a Belgian example with decals from the Eduard NATO fighter boxing. Paints are from the Hataka red range. zz20211018_203646 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203633 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203603 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203558 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

  22. I think we probably were. My dad took this of me climbing in that day. Looks a bit dreich though. 3-67-476 DHC-1 Chipmunk T10 WZ875 12 AEF, RAF Turnhouse, July 1977 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  23. Thanks for the kind comments folks. For rigging I used elastic thread and the tiniest blob of superglue. Airfix provide a very useful series of diagrams showing the rigging set up. I also partially rigged it before attempting to put the top wing in place.
