  1. It didn't really matter as the Hasegawa kit can be built as a MkIX or a VIII. I happened to have the VIII boxing. The PR.XI had a retractable tailwheel and big rudder like the Mk VIII anyway so it made sense.
  2. 1/48 using the Aeroclub conversion. I waiting on a Hobbycraft Seafire XV to use the wings; the cheapest twin small (Merlin sized) radiator wings I could find. Sadly no step by step this time. The Quickboost set had a set of flat gun covers. I used those and filled and sanded the gun access hatches and cartridge ejection holes underneath. I also added the little bulges just ahead of the main gear legs , I think they are fuel pumps for the wing tanks. I drilled the holes for the cameras on the fusleage side and on the underside and glazed them withe Humbrol clearfix.
  3. Thanks for the comments folks - they are appreciated. I've got a Trumpeter Tomahawk on the go at the moment before a last fling with a Seafire XVII.
  4. Here is my latest Spitfire. Hasegawa MKVIII boxing converted to a PR.XI using the Quickboost conversion set. Finished in Xtracrylix PRU blue and some spare Italeri MkIX decals for the invasion stripes. I used a Falcon canopy for the PR clear windscreen. Thanks for looking.
  5. Count me in I've got one or two I could do - might need more than 3 months though In the stash currently. PR PINK

I found an RGB reference for PRU pink and matched mine to it. I think it may be a bit too pink but who really knows. Mine was about 25 parts white to one red.
  7. Thanks for the comments folks. I read somewhere, possibly here that RLM 76 was a good match for whatever colour Supermarine used. It looks good to me. I filled in the panel lines, the gun access panels, the gun ports and filed off the wheel bulge etc. but didn't rescribe any extra lines. I read, I think it was in Morgan and Shacklady's book, that Supermarine smoothed out many of the lines on the wing surface to squeeze as much performance out of the airframe as they could.
  8. After this year's earlier effort of 22 Spitfires I thought I'd fill in some gaps. This is the Tamiya Mk1 converted using the Paragon conversion set and Xtradecal sheet 48-059. Fairly easy conversion and finished with not a little irony in Xtracrylix RLM76 Lichtblau. Nice and easy conversion with nicely fitting parts and I even tackled the scary vacform cockpit canopy! Next up a PR.XI from the Hasegawa Mk.VIII.
  9. I have to say that I wasn't very impressed with the Airfix MkIX. Chunky, wings are too thick, the wing tips therefore don't fit. General fit wasn't very good. Don't think it is the Otaki kit but I'm not sure. Here's mine if it helps. The MkI however was much better. The cockpit canopy is too thick and cannot be displayed open though.
  10. There are colour pictures around, taken in the Hatfield flight test hangar and some taken earlier. I'll see if I can find them. I have a suspicion they may be in an obscure Hatfield site magazines that may defy a quick search. Basically though it was in the original G-SSSH brown/orange scheme with primer green fuselage drum section. It was also originally registered as G-5-300 I think before it was painted.
  11. I built the Heritage Aviation one a few months ago PR.XIX It was my first resin effort and I found it pretty straightforward. The canopy was a bit scary but turned out OK in the end. The fit was generally good with only a little bit of fettling required. There is a build thread on UKAR linked in the above link if it helps.
  12. Thanks everyone for the kind comments - they are appreciated. Miggers, thanks for the link. I never saw a C119 in the air, only one at Pima on the ground.
  13. I've had this is in the loft for ages. Built for UKAR group build. Build thread here. C-119 Build Decent kit with good fit some fun and games getting it to sit on its gear. Decals a bit iffy but they were a bit old. Hand painted courtesy of Xtracrylix and Humbrol. Might look nice alongside a Heller Noratlas
  14. To add to the above, I've built the XIVc and e and all I did was replace the kit propeller with the Quickboost one and it all the difference. Nice kits and very easy to build I found. There will be those that tell you the nose profile is all wrong and indeed it is a little fatter in depth than than Airfix F.22 in the same area but is of the order of a couple of mm at most. The finished article looks good to me. Academy Spitfires I prepared earlier.
  15. I got issue 50 (dated September) last week. Issue 51 due on 24th September.
  16. Nice little collection - must get back to my airliners some day. Your thread title had me going though!
  17. Very useful stuff. I'm trying to do a free PR.XI from the bits left over after my recent Spitfire frenzy. I was doing OK, having bought only the Quickboost cowling and Falcon canopy set. My biggest problem is the wing. I have a set of Airfix MK.V wings which should be OK in outline but need modifications to the radiators, aileron size and the other bits and pieces mentioned above. I was going to finish the model as PL965 but that seems to have some differences from wartime PR.XI aircraft. More research required.
  18. I'd be interested in the HP bit with an O/400. Unfortunately I did my own Bomber Command and HP build last year. This would give me the incentive to do the O/400.
  19. Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I like that one very much. You are very very naughty but I might tempted, I mean I have decals to use after all......
  20. Here they all are - all 22; two I made a year or two ago, the rest I've built since about December 2008. Set out in mark number order. Here are the Merlin ones. and the Griffon ones The aftermath - spares - thousands of them propellers, rudders, gun covers, complete fuselages and wing (that don't match) and decals - lots of decals - when I resurrect this project in a few years time I'll be sorted. There can be few types that can be modelled in so many different marks and colour schemes and indeed generate so much controversy in the modelling world. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable project and I have learnt a huge amount about Britain's most famous aeroplane. I've got a couple of Revell 1/32 scale Spitfires to do and I want to add a 1/24 scale one eventually as well. I might add an FR.XVIII and Seafire XVII and a PR.XI etc etc. What have I started......
  21. Very nice - looks like you've come out on top - might give this kit a miss though.
  22. Thanks folks. My last foray with vacform canopies wasn't a great experience. The Aeroclub fuselage came with a vacform caopy which wasn't particularly clear so I used spares. The front and centre section were OK but the rear one isn't a great fit. The Airfix F.22 simply doesn't fit in the open position - I should have known better as I've already done the F.24 and FR.47.If it starts to annoy me I'll get a a Falcon set! The Aeroclub fuselage was fine but some lines needed rescribing a bit. I was impressed with the fit of the metal cockpit parts in the fuselage as well. The Airfix wing was a decent fit at the root but the cockpit parts seem to extend too far down so needed a bit of trimming to allow the wing to sit correctly vertically.
