  1. Thanks for taking the time to comment folks. It is appreciated.
  2. This the old Hasegawa F-16A - the kit itself is fine but the decals were past it. I ended up getting an Academy kit to get the decals. Just as well I did as made a mess of the cockpit caopny anyway. The model was finished with a Humbrol Acrylic rattle can. The Academy decals were very thin and tore easily so lots of touching up and didn't adhere particularly well. I got the Gunze Sangyo colours but the blue was bit dull compared to the decals. The blue I got for a BA A319 was a better match. The red needed lightening slightly to match the decals. Anyway here it is. Thanks for looking.
  3. I've posted this the cold war part of the forum as well. Mine turned up yesterday. At the bottom are some comparisons with the Airfix Spitfire XII. Spitfire XII /Seafire XV comparison. The MK.XII is in the lighter coloured plastic.
  4. Some photos as mentioned. At the bottom are some comparisons with the Airfix Spitfire XII. Spitfire XII /Seafire XV comparison. The MK.XII is in the lighter coloured plastic.
  5. Mine turned up today. It looks very nice and having made some SH kits before so I have a fair idea what is in store. I can post some photos if anyone is interested. I have an Airfix Spitfire XII in the stash which might make an interesting comparison.
  6. Thanks for the comments folks. madaboutmodels I problems getting the A320 glazing in place and trimmed rather too much off the top. It left a bit of a gap so I decided to use the decal instead. The kit has a decal with just the frame only and one that covers all of the glazing. For the BA A319 I used the decal for the framing only.
  7. Haven't built any airliners fo a while so I thought I'd give these a go. Built these two Revell 1/144 kits together as by and large they are identical. Some interesting changes though. The white was sprayed and the rest hand brushed. Both used the kit decals whcih were very nice and went on easily. Firstly an A319 finished in British Airways markings. Next an A320 in Lufthansa colours The pair Thanks for looking.
  8. Nicely done. Did the same one myself last year Jaguar XX119
  9. Thanks folks. The Testors kit isn't easy to find and I picked it up from a US seller on Ebay. I think the same kit appeared under the Lindberg banner as well.
  10. This is the Testors Supermarine S-6B. There were a grand total of 16 parts and while the fit wasn't too bad, there isn't much detail. Finished as S1595 from 1931 in Humbrol 25 blue and Humbrol 11 out of a spray can. The rigging is Lycra thread. Alongside its successor. and it's hard to believe that only 15 years separate the S-6B and the Seafire FR.47
  11. Airfix's recent release of the Seafire XVII finished with decals from Freightdog Decals FSD48-008 - "Post-War Seafires Griffon Engined" In many ways typical of recent Airfix releases; nice fit and detail and comes together nice and quickly. Some great options, folded wings, retracted gear and two cockpit hoods, open and closed. The kit seems a little over-engineered in places and panel lines are a bit deep for my liking. The decals, both Freightdog and Airfix went on easily, if anything the Airfix ones are a bit thick but easy to apply. Finished as usual with Xtracrylix and a brush. One I made earlier, the other one built from an Aeroclub fuselage and Kit-tech wings.
  12. Thanks folks for the kind comments. On the go at the moment is the Airfix Seafire XVII. I might squeeze in the S6B as well though
  13. The latest Spitfire (number 39 in a continuing series) This is the Special Hobby Spitfire Vc built straight from the box. Not the easiest of kits but builds up fine with nice detail. Finished as usual with Xtracrylix and a brush. Next up, Airfix Seafire XVII
  14. In the never-ending quest to build Spitfires, here are another couple. Firstly 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire MkI in the 74Sqn markings of Sailor Malan. Decals from Victory Productions Aces of the Empire sheet. Nothing really needs to be said about the Tamiya Spitfire. Next Hasegawa 1/48 Spitfire MkVI in the markings of 124Sqn. Built using the kit decals. Both finished as usual with Xtracrylix and a brush
  15. To make a change from Spitfires (well, sort of) , I tackled the 1/48 MasterCraft F-16A with the Belgian AF 349Sqn 50th anniversary markings. It is a while since I tackled an F-16 kit and this one was OK with decent fit mostly. The instructions were sometimes a bit vague and the colour scheme drawing simply confused. I have no idea where the kit originates or on its accuracy. The decal sheet was a work of art itself consisted of a completed Spitfire in plan view in 1/48 scale. I decided to apply it in three bits - just as well as they were very thin. There were many stencil decals but the instructions were poor and most were left on the decal sheet unused. The kit covers about 5 aircraft which means a very confusing black and white decal placement picture. Anyway it's done now. Finished with Xtracrylix and Gunze Sangyo Acrylics and a brush.
  16. Very nice - be good to see it with the rest of your V-bombers
  17. I would direct you to my photos as posted on UKAR. My Southport photos When I get a minute I'll post them here.
  18. What I did to get my Tamiya Spitfire was to go through my stash and ask myself - "am I really going to build this?" I sold £85 worth of kits on Ebay and so funded my Spitfire for nothing ( I know it isn't really for nothing but it felt like it) I replaced 6 or 7 largeish boxes with one large box so it was win-win all-round. I found the Spitfire for only £69 plus p&p so I came out ahead as well!
  19. Oh OK. I always thought they stayed painted white at that time.
  20. That's a very nice model. I thought they were painted white for Operation Grapple though. Picked up mine at Waddington on Saturday.
  21. Here's a selection from the few photos I took today. Conditions weren't great and well done to those for putting on what show they could. Not great but here they are anyway.
  22. Well, I don't want to put a dampener on things (literally) but the forecast I've just seen looks like a bit crap. Rain from 1ish onwards, possible showers before. I'm going anyway, it's only an hour's drive or so. Go prepared for anything and you'll be fine.
  23. That's very nice. I have the same kit in the stash. I flew in WT919 and soloed in XE810.
