  1. Thanks for the kind comments folks. Much appreciated. Check the parts. I had a couple missing and two left tailplane top surfaces. The fuselage was badly warped at the nose and needed a modicum of persuasion to get the halves togtether. Getting the wings to fit to the assembled fuselage is challenging at best and a bit of material needed removing from the landing gear bay to get it all to fit. Apart from that it goes together surprisingly well.
  2. One that's been in the stash for a few years. The Airfix 1/24 Hurricane is quite an old kit but actually isn't too bad. The fit is pretty decent with the exceptions being the getting the fuselage halves together and getting the wings to fit. Nothing major then... I added a Yahu photetched instrument panel and an HGW Sutton harness. The model is finished in Hataka/ Vallejo Acrylics dark earth, dark green and sky and using Topnotch camouflage masks which worked very well. The aircraft is in the markings of P3576 GN-A as flown by Flight Lieutenant James Brindley Nicolson VC, RAF No.249 Squadron, Boscombe Down, 16th August 1940. The markings were applied using Topnotchmasks and sprayed on. It was a new technique for me and I think it worked out OK. Anyway, here it is, xx20211119_202409 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20211119_202404 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20211119_202348 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20211119_202339 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20211119_202328 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20211119_202317 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr xx20211119_202510 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  3. The decals are great. The stripes fit perfectly. They do tend to stick where they are put so careful positioning is recommended. Thanks for the comments folks. Much appreciated.
  4. This is the Kinetic F-16AM in 1/48 scale. Ididn't find it the easiest kit and as there are lots of options, I think there are more parts left over than I actually used. Finished in Hataka red range acrylics and with the excellent Syhart decal sheet depicting FA-57 as it appeared at Fairford in 2019. The artwork is superb. zz20211018_203811 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203808 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203752 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203745 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203722 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  5. My attempt at the Kinetic Starfighter. An excellent kit with lots of options. I finished it as a Belgian example with decals from the Eduard NATO fighter boxing. Paints are from the Hataka red range. zz20211018_203646 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203633 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203603 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr zz20211018_203558 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

  7. I think we probably were. My dad took this of me climbing in that day. Looks a bit dreich though. 3-67-476 DHC-1 Chipmunk T10 WZ875 12 AEF, RAF Turnhouse, July 1977 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  8. Thanks for the kind comments folks. For rigging I used elastic thread and the tiniest blob of superglue. Airfix provide a very useful series of diagrams showing the rigging set up. I also partially rigged it before attempting to put the top wing in place.
  9. The first aircraft operated by the Blue Angels and only for a very few shows. Eduard's Hellcat is a lovely kit and goes together very well. Finished in Hataka acrylics and once again excellent Draw decal markings in gold. 20210926_210131 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210137 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210144 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210152 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr What surprised me was how much bigger the Hellcat was compared to the Bearcat. I always thought it was the other way round. 20210926_210237 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  10. In an effort to complete my Blue Angels collection, here is the Bearcat in 1/48 scale from Hobbyboss. Nice simple kit with excellent fit all round. Finished in Vallejo FS15050 with superb Draw Decals markings. 20210926_210041 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210048 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210054 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210106 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  11. The newish Airfix Tiger Moth in 1/48 scale. Another nice little kit with no real problems in build. Built and finished out of the box. As always self-inflicted build issues around the top wing which I left off unitl near the end, after applying decals and partial rigging. Matching the red was a challenge as the red I used was slightly different to the kit decals, which I have to say were excellent. 20210927_162253 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210927_162300 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210927_162306 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210927_162309 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  12. This is the new Airfix Chipmunk in 1/48 scale. Nice little kit but the cockpit canopy gave me a bit of grief. It comes in three pieces with a little jig to ensure the right angles. The wings also needed a bit of bracing to stop a distinct droop on the outer sections. It's finished with Hataka acrylics and an Xtradecal sheet slightly modified to represent WZ875, the first Chipmunk I flew in at RAF Turnhouse in 1976. 20210926_210011 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210017 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210024 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr 20210926_210030 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

  14. It's been a while but after a few months of a break from modelling, I thought I'd build this one. Special Hobby Bristol M-1C in 1/32 scale, which is about the perfect scale for aeroplanes of this size. The kit goes together very well and I hand painted it in Humbrol acrylics 98 Chocolate and 41 Ivory. I thought the Humbrol colour was a reasonable stab at a PC-12 finish. I used Alleycat decals to finish the model as a (slightly fictitious) example from 72Sqn. RAF in Mesopotamia in 1918. z20210831_201040 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr z20210831_201103 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr z20210831_201110 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr z20210831_201132 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr z20210831_201156 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr z20210831_201204 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr

  19. Another Dassault delta. This time Revell's take on the Rafale M. Pretty decent kit overall. Finished with excellent Syhart decals as the kit decals were a bit old. aa20210307_165336 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165325 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165321 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165315 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165247 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165244 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr a20210307_165344 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  20. The latest addition to my Mirage family. This is the AMK Kfir C2. A lovely kit with excellent detail and fit. Finished in Vallejo acrylics, Gunship grey, dark gull grey and light compass grey in the markings of ATAC aircraft N401AX. aa20210307_165453 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165442 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165438 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165432 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165423 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165415 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210307_165409 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
  21. Thanks folks. Something a bit smaller next...
  22. A kit I've wanted to build for years and I managed to find one reasonably priced on Ebay. Built with a few extras from Eduard; masks, interior etc. and decals from Xtradecal. An excellent kit despite its vintage with mostly great fit. Finished as EE136 "WS-R" Spirit of Russia of 9Sqn RAF with Hataka red range range acrylics. Now to find somewhere to put it... aa20210212_104413 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210212_104409 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210212_104353 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210212_104332 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210212_104318 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr aa20210212_104314 by Derek N.Ferguson, on Flickr
