  1. Just to clarify why I added a card strip along the back edge of display. As I painted the water surface, I would also paint the card strip. This strip gets transposed onto the bottom edge of the canvas. It will be a water colour reference for the background of the diorama. The canvas painting will be in oil paints, my preferred painting medium. The painting will only look, in perspective, from the console operator's point of view. Below, is an idea of what the background will look like. As you can see, it will be mostly sky.
  2. Thanks again my friends. Here is another update. After finishing the basic colours for the river, I went for a needed bike ride. It has not rained for over a week and Richmond River, near the ocean, is very clear. Could not help notice a similar teal colour to what I have been painting. Took photos to show that such waters are not too overboard as such. Though, 20 miles up river, where Wardell Bridge is, is still dirty green. So far . . .
  3. Hi Matt. Thanks for sharing your ideas and suggestions. Will be adding lots of detail stuff later, including dry-brushing wave crests. I am planning to add bits to the water, to be revealed later.
  4. Thanks guys for your support and confidence in me. Sure hope not to disappoint. The following is just a start. Got half way with the basic blending one shade with the next. Once the basic coverage is done, there is still lots more to do. I still have lots to learn with using acrylics. Starting from waters edge, I was assumed the water/wet mud and rocks would look darker, yet mliky due to dirty water. As the water gets deeper, the milky dirt browns take over. Then green got mixed into it (according to some silly plan of mine). 🙂 Lots of detail stuff to be added later. Hoping the overall effort will improve the general appearance of the river. We will see.
  5. Oh boy, I sure stuffed up the paint job. Only done 1/10th of the water. Started along the river banks. The dirty water look became too brown, opaquish, blotchy, and dark on outer edge. It's been a long time since doing any painting, and have forgotten basic principles. The rest of the river will contain blues and greens, which is not mixed with the brownish areas already painted. Need to repaint what I have done with a better colour mix. But first, I need to paint a background tone to get rid of that stark white as a comparison. Hope to improve on this.
  6. Finally got through making 24 square feet of surafce water by using paper mache technique. It was one job I had lots of apprehension about, but not as intense as the one that is coming up - painting it. Anyway, as usual I started with the least noticeable section of the display (Far left corner) and worked my way to the more noticeable (Near right corner). Hoping I will improve the technique as I progress. This became true, and had to return to earlier sections to patch it up a bit.
  7. Damn squids, they're everywhere. Gooday Matt. Are you clairvoyant? Because that damn @Gorby squid was on my mind.
  8. I am feeling okay now, so I went for a bike ride. As I rode over Wardell bridge I saw a sight that through another spanner in the works. The shire council installed a flaoting wharf from the South bank. Had to return the next day to take photos and measure it up.
  9. Thank you my friends for your concerns. With help from doctor I ought to be on top of it soon. Then I'll come back to annoy you all 😀 Happy modelling to you all. Cheers.
  10. Thanks for the build log journey. Really enjoyed watching this thread. Learnt quite a few things from you _ thanks for that. Hope you have a lovely relaxing summer holiday. PS. Don't get too carried away with collecting bits for future models. If you do, it may be cheaper to post it snail mail than trying to include it with you luggage. Looking forward to seeing future build logs. Cheers my friend.
  11. Excellent! This is a great build, it gets better and better.
  12. Added the figurines to the chairs and the chairs to the console. This will do for the time being. Need to pay some attention to my other build logs. Thanks for watching. Will return to this one shortly.
  13. Gee 😱, my memory is slipping out the window. I posted the peephole device twice without knowing it.
  14. 👍 , a Pie, Pot, Pea shop. Get it while it's hot!
  15. You have been VERY busy with the model lately.
  16. Thank you @Corsairfoxfouruncle, @Jaktis, and @Gorby for your reactions. ___________________________________ Came across an old front door peephole in my tool box. Plan to use it to reveal something strange/unexpected about the ADLIB-1. Part of the interior view will be boxed and unrevealing except for a peephole. The device has a fish-eye lens and can view a lot of info at close quarters. I plan to create a mini-diorama within a small boxed in area. Since the model will eventually be placed in a display case, the peephole device needs to extend/bridge to the display casing.
  17. @rockpopandchips, I can't get over that tree of yours, It's so good. Wish you had shown the stages of adding that foliage.
  18. Just to let everybody know. I know that what I am using and building is old style stuff for a futuristic time. But for today's observer of the model, they will at least recognize what most of the bits represent (I hope). In the years to come, this model will be an embarrassment. But I won't care because I won't be around . The thing is, I am having fun building it, and what a treat it is for me to know that others, like yourself, are enjoying it too. I am very grateful for you all in following this build.
  19. I am going to cut small dark squares and rectangles, from thin plastic sheet, to represent Chips/ICs; and glue them on the green tag. Hoping the tag will look like a pcb (as drawn). No copper etching for tracks _ you won't see the back of it anyway.
  20. Thank you @Gorby, @rockpopandchips, @The Chief Smeg, @harveyb258, and @Corsairfoxfouruncle for your 'likes'. ____________________________________ Been collecting plastic tags used for sealing bread bags. Planning to use them as circuit boards just for a small section of the model. In the drawing, the technician is repairing a large printed circuit board (pcb).
  21. WOW, what a transformation. Looks great. The tree is perfect. Nothing better than seeing holes through a tree, it's more realistic.
  22. Guess what. I am as sick as a dog. Aching all over and cannot get warm. I will make like a dog and sleep in the sun. Will be signing off for a while. Cheers.
  23. About 50 years ago, a school friend, Mark, had a weekend job in his father's butcher shop. After working hard he was given a hot cup of coffee by the apprentices. When he got to the bottom of the cup something touched his mouth. He looked in a saw a pig's eye looking at him. Poor Mark, he has never been able to handle warm liquids since. Not even soup.
