Hello everybody,
this is my first building log on Britmodeller, I hope posting it here will keep me motivated to continue the build.
I like to apolagies for my school English but I am from Flanders Belgium!
After reading a book about the German ground attack groups (Schlachtgeschwader) I remembered I had an old Airfix in the stash with the typical black triangle markings.
It is the reissue of an old kit, one I have build already once before more then 25 years ago. .....I AM getting old....
It was my first commision build then but I still remember 3 things:
-there was a problem with the engine lenght
-the landing gear was quite fiddly
-It was a very..very nice model when buildup, and I did not like it when it left!!
The planning is to build the model again . But without any opening panels and only add visible extra detailling.
So I can focus on the painting!
First, historical research! The markings are famous because they were based at two original propaganda colour photos!
much debate has been done about these photos: the exact type A, F or G type an the fact that these airplanes were "custom" painted for propaganda uses.
I will build it as an F version.
Some internet research revealed some more photos: with white letters and logo but also with red ones!
I have chosen this one marking, also used by Eduard: red "L",it has a comfirned wr.nr 538 and is easyer to make painting masks for it! A colourfull bird!
This plane HAS existed:
To the box: the 1997 rebox of the 1980 kit
loose parts, lots of flash and some serious sinkmarks in wings and tail section:
These were all carefully filled with gel superglue (gel can be controled more easely so to minimise the sanding afterwards)
and lost rivet detail redone with several differend needles
The visible extra detail I am going to use. Mostly cockpit related:
This concludes my first post, feel free to comment!
Happy modelling
