  1. Instead of trimming both top and bottom at the trailing edge, you might wrap the top piece of foil around the trailing edge and trim it at a convenient but unobtrusive panel line on the underside of the tailplane. This has worked for me to eliminate similar problems in the past.
  2. Very interesting. My kit has not yet landed here in Greater Abbottstan, so I can’t check it myself.
  3. That standard length for the XB-51 (85’ 1”) is from the tip of the nose to the end of the fuselage, according to the USAF Standard Aircraft Characteristics chart. So the kit’s fuselage is even shorter than your measurement.
  4. The USAF Standard Aircraft Characteristics chart shows the fuselage length to be 85.1 feet from the tip of the nose to the end of the fuselage jet nozzle; see here: http://www.generalstaff.org/CDA/Air/B-51/XB-51_SAC_26-SEP-1949.pdf
  5. I met Jerry in 1976 when I lived in Northern Kentucky and he was mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. I was impressed with his intelligence and progressive views the, but later was appalled at his tawdry television show.
  6. My home town is also the home of Sheppard Air Force Base, the home of the EuroNATO training program. I remember seeing lots of Tweets in all those schemes, but the ones I recall as “most representative” are (1) all-white and (2) blue-and-white, the latter being the most attractive to my eyes.
  7. The Space Rangers are aware of the possibility of a coup among the Martian delegation and are keeping a close eye on the situation, lest the stability of the United Worlds of the Solar System be imperiled. We are quite prepared to intervene to keep the peace if necessary.
  8. Those interested in this aircraft might want to purchase a copy of this: https://daviddoylebooks.com/aircraft-soviet/myasishchev-m-50-and-m-52-the-first-soviet-supersonic-strategic-bomber-hardcover-gpcwz Note: I have no connection to the seller, publisher, or authors other than as a customer of a copy. But the book is a fascinating look into the design philosophy of the Myasishchev design bureau. For example, they proposed both zero-length-launch and seaplane versions of this immense aircraft!

  10. For some color photos of the large Convair “see-thru” model (and undoubted inspiration for the Hawk kit), see here: https://dustyoldthing.com/1958-atlas-space-station/
  11. I have the 1/72 version, so will be following this with interest!
  12. You can use clear plastic to make lens covers then paint over them with Tamiya transparent colors. Just remember to paint the port light red. Don’t ask me how I know this. 😉
  13. 🎶 “When I’m calling you-hoo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo!” 🎶
  14. As a USAF historic preservation intern, I visited the site of the 1966 crash of 62-0207 in 1994 and compiled an official California Archaeological Site Report. I also collected several pieces of the airplane for the Flight Test Center Museum at Edwards AFB. Twenty-eight years after that tragic accident it was still possible to find small pieces of the white-painted aluminum skin and titanium honeycomb at the site. It was a sobering experience.
  15. I use Flickr. No charge for the first 1,000 images.
  16. Quote seems to be working for me on this iPhone 6s+.
  17. Seventeen hours ago there was a forum update, according to a post elsewhere. That’s likely what’s done it. I had the same issue with a previous update which prevents me from seeing images and posting using my admittedly elderly computer. It seems that Invision (?) is firmly committed to forcing all users of its software and viewers of forums supported by it to upgrade to the very latest browsers on the very latest computers and tablets, something that is financially out of reach for many of us, especially those on Social Security (U.S.) or the local equivalent. So far the change hasn’t affected my iPhone, but I haven’t checked to see if my iPad is affected. But if these persistent “upgrades” continue to cause problems with participating in Britmodeller, I may have to just leave altogether, a decision I would greatly regret, as it is the best, most informative, and most entertaining of the modeling forums that I frequent.
  18. The airworthiness documents (inspection and maintenance records) contained in the FAA’s aircraft record file will occasionally mention exact colors, based on my examination of some 2,700 files of Cessna T-50 records.
  19. Can someone tell this landlubber what book this image is from? And where I might find a copy? https://www.scribd.com/document/361181652/Ship-Description-Description-du-Navire-pdf#
  20. From what book are these illustrations?
  21. Howdy from South Manitoba (Texas)! 🤠
