  1. Recently acquired a Hobbyboss A10 in 1-72 as a test/practice piece for painting. As an airbrush novice my normal efforts are pretty poor by comparison to the content on here. Assembly was a bit of a rush job and there are a few seams that aren't done very well. Primered with Vallejo white primer and and an attempt at pre-eshading with Tamiya XF1. Then light grey (Vallejo 71.050) for the underside and lots of masking and Vallejo 71.097 medium grey for the top. Normally by this point any pre-shading has been obliterated by the painting process ... but so far it doesn't seem to bad, arguably could do with a little more paint in places. Images here .... https://photos.app.goo.gl/hLy4Y1DhKRSrRjTt5 Next up decals and panel lines ....
  2. Bit of a departure from my normal aircraft/helicopter builds ... https://photos.app.goo.gl/qZNsQxHGye13a1R9A Straight out of the box - with Vallejo primer, Tamiya paints and Vallejo matt varnish. Quick build to be used as airbrush and masking practice. Turned out better than I thought though black as a PLW was probably a bit of a mistake ... mid-grey would have been better.
  3. You'll need to explain that one ...I'm clearly a bit slow ....
  4. https://photos.app.goo.gl/FpjGhCd37mHu9s5X6 Started this one about 6 months ago ... as a kit it proved pretty frustrating due to fit of the parts so progress was slow. Its only the fourth kit I've done with an airbrush so the finish isn't that great. Thinning Revell Aqua Colour to get good results seems to be a black art. Initially covered in white Vallejo primer and pre-shaded with Tamiya XF1 black. A slightly enthusiastic covering with the Revell Nato Olive green pretty much obliterated that! Lesson learned ... check , double check and check again you've got rid of all plastic flashing / ridges and filled/sanded all seams prior to painting ! The tiniest imperfection will show .... Not really news to most people on here but this kit rammed it home to me. I did try a modest effort at post-shading on some of the fuselage but the results were not great and most were covered over -you can still see bits if you look carefully. Covered everything in a gloss coat for decals and thats when everything went really bad .... somewhere along the line something reacted with the canopy plastic and caused it to go somewhat hazy and in places look like it had been roughly sanded. Along with that 99% of the decals silvered around the edges - despite using Microset and sol. I'd be interested to hear what others are using for gloss coats/ canopy protection as the fabled "Klear" seems to rarer than hen's teeth. It was too late to turn back now so I pressed on with a panel wash using Mig Ammo black PLW ... by way of experiment I liberally coated the model with it in an effort to get a"dirty" used look rather than the clinical, clean lines I prefer and then cleaned off. In the end it turned out to be neither - a rather non-pleasing dodgy half way house. tio finish it was given two coats of Vallejo acrylic matt varnish. Thanks for reading ... any advice/pointers greatly received.
  5. https://photos.app.goo.gl/x69bTyGaA6P8jnZ18 1/72 Airfix P51D Mustang. Stsrted with the best intentions but a few mistakes and painting errors marred the final result. Met with an accident that broke the landing gear hence the stand.
  6. Thanks for your comments. You're probably right on the panel lines. THe pre-shade and black PLW is a bit overkill. The build and the panel lines were something of an experiment - I'm not very accomplished with an airbrush and I only have a pot of black wash. Perhaps a mid or dark grey would have acheived a more subtle effect. Ian
  7. Not quite in the same league as most posters on here ... but here is my recently completed Vampire in 1/72 which turned better than most of my efforts. Kit goes together fairly well though I haven't filled a few seams as well as I could have done and I messed up some of the decals. Completed using Vallejo primer, Tamiya acrylics, Micro set / Sol and Mig Ammo black panel line wash. https://photos.app.goo.gl/DNEkva9VP5ybAUGYA
  8. I’m relatively new to the forum – heres my first w.i.p … though its more like a “nearly complete” Tamiya A10 in 1/48. Photos here … https://photos.app.goo.gl/dJHYeHcoip7QIDIC2 Just the remainder of the ordnance to complete and attach , then put the cockpit in the open position. It represents my first serious attempt at a model in some time, along with first use of a decent airbrush (H&S Ultra). As you can see I’m not in the same league as some on here … Its just a stock out the box build with no extras. Following assembly the model was primed using Vallejo white primer and given a token effort at pre shading – this was almost totally negated by over zealous paint application. I used Tamiya acrylics airbushed on – with masking accomplished via tape and blu-tac rolls ;-) Then it was given a coat of polish (http://www.lakeland.co.uk/20286/Quick-Shine%C2%AE-Floor-Finish) prior to decals being applied with microset/sol. Even so – still had a bit of silvering on some decals especially on the tail. Then finally a coat of Vallejo matt varnish. No post shading, weathering or washes applied … still a total novice in that area.
  9. Anyone know of a photoetch detail set (cockpit interior etc) for the Revell Apache in 1/48 ? I see Eduard do one for the Hasegawa kit - does it transfer to the Revell ?

    Afternoon ...

Thanks ... it turned out ok, considering I had to use nail polish to strip the first coat of primer/paint. I really need to master pre shading and panel lines. I'm not in the same league as some I've seen here! I'm using a Harder&Steenbeck Ultra with the 0.2 nozzle/needle.

    Afternoon ...

Afternoon all, Getting back to modelling after 20+years of other stuff. Wasn't much good then so hopefully I can't get worse. Mostly trying to build the best I can "out of the box" - no add-ons or scratch building. Still trying to get to grips with an airbrush. Primarily building military aircraft & helicopters in 1/72 or 1/48. Recently completed an Airfix 1/72 SAR Sea King and currently working on a Tamiya 1/48 A10 and a Revell 1/48 AH64 SeaKing ... https://photos.app.goo.gl/3SIXql9mZnqKRYPg1 Apologies for the kitchen background ;-) And the A10 work in progress ... https://photos.app.goo.gl/dJHYeHcoip7QIDIC2 Any/all comments on build posts gratefully received. Ian.
