  1. Another one to get finished, after little debate decided to have a go at replacing the tarp on the side skirt. As Francis mentioned the resin tarp just didn't look right. I've created a replacement from kitchen towel and pva, any thoughts one way or the other? Also commander figure under way, just awaiting a replacement noggin. Thanks for looking Darryl
  2. Well I've looked up the Historex web site.....so easy to spend money. Good job the pubs have been closed for a while! Just need to make final decisions on which sets, Allied and German, so much choice. Also ordered eyeball decals, you won't believe where from... could be inspired, could be lunacy! Going to need some flesh coloured paints, the old jar of Tamiya flesh just ain't up to it, tbh it's not up to much anymore. With the young fella above: "determined I'm gonna crack this figure painting malarky" etc So easy to spend money... good job I haven't bought a kit for probably 6mths! Cheers Darryl
  3. For my penny's worth I've only sprayed with acrylics for years, lot less hassle from the re' fumes etc, and yes tip dry can be an issue but I'll trade that for less fumes especially if using cellulose. The tip dry can be mitigated with retardant. M3 is absolutely right, enamels spray beautifully but.... A decent primer beneath the acrylic paint, I've used Halfords, does the job. Atb Darryl
  4. Thanks John, good looking fella in the Sherman! Think I'll have to give those eyeballs a shot. More stuff to buy!! I can always decapitate the little fella and do a noggin transplant, not sure about the hat either.. The power......did someone mention Dr Frankenstein! Cheers Darryl
  5. Another modern vehicle I've never noticed before... How will the flat tyre work, is the suspension moveable to allow it to sit on the ground? Could try making the harnesses from tamiya masking tape and painting them? Atb Darryl
  6. It's a learning game, everyone has there own preferred techniques, it's about what works for you and keep trying new ones too. Cromwell is looking good. Atb
  7. Outstanding, just outstanding....those figures are brilliant, what else is there to say. Already looking forward to your next project. Cheers Darryl
  8. Hi Nic, funnily enough found a review/build of this kit in and old edition of Airfix model world/Magazine. Got a good review apart from the instructions are a little ambiguous if I remember and the wheel to tyre fit isn't very good, otherwise is a good-un. Atb Darryl
  9. Lucky you, an exciting trip to the shops... Decals first and then paint the lids.? What next photo etch eye lashes??? Cheers
  10. Thanks Dan, just going to have a butchers see what's available, good to know.
  11. A dark paint, used as a wash, carefully and specifically applied, and allowed to partially dry can be carefully removed with a cotton bud/tissue etc moistened with thinner leaving a residue in the panel line. But... if you've used an acrylic varnish use a enamel based paint for the wash or vice-versa. Don't use acrylics on acrylics. (A cheap set of water colours can be quite good for this and forgiving, keep the paint on the thick side to make it stay where you need it, allow to dry for a numbers of mins and then wipe away the excess). As ever practice on something first before applying to your model.
  12. Steady on John that's a bit harsh, I've only just been given a pair of readers! Ahhhh. Apologies you ment eyeball decals for the figures...right! One way or another I'll find a method that works for me, I'll look those decals up anyway. Bet you've never seen a cyclops commanding a tank before, one is bound to end up in the forehead! Cheers Darryl
  13. Nice paint job, always liked this stage in an aircraft build, painted, unmasked and ready to have some fun with. Atb Darryl
  14. With a bit of practice I'd guess you could do it with a fairly hefty dry brushing. Base colour on and then draw the dry brush white wash down wards and perhaps stiple it on flat surfaces... Best bet, get something to practice on before committing it to the model.
  15. No wonder some recent builds keep falling apart.... Hang on, if I've been attempting to glue with beer, what have been drinking....
  16. Thanks but no matter what, i can't do figures. Lots of people have suggested excellent techniques and I still make hash of them. Desperately annoying as they really add to a build. (The JP will require another 3-4 figures if my idea of a base bares fruit...) I now have a set of cheap oil paints that I'm going to experiment with, see if they work for me next time. (I have another figure on the go to complete the Grant, so I'll keep trying...). Atb Darryl
  17. That's most generous, as long as the Mrs doesn't find out they're all mine!
  18. Hi, if I can add a little. I only tend to use acrylics these days and as for black don't use a straight black. You'll see colours like NATO black and rubber black they are in fact very very dark grey which in this game is what you want, you can then lighten it further to create highlights or lighten it for panel centres depending upon your preferences. Best wishes Darryl
  19. Sounds obvious when you mention it. Just some rough guidelines will suffice, take some of the hit and miss out of it. I'll probably start with groundwork go from there. Upon reflection the bench probably looks a bit iffy, cut up tin foil and bags of white powder.... (BTW, Afvs garage , wingy things loft 😉🤫). Cheers Darryl
  20. Well, for now, done! Installed Herman in the commanders spot and well what can I say about him...Nice figure, Masterbox, dodgy painting, self. The idea being cold winter in the Ardennes, hence the blanket draped over his shoulders. Hopefully get a base done at some point time permitting. Don't think the sunny backdrop helps get the feel. Any suggestions feel free. Thanks for looking Darryl
  21. Looking better, the ambush scheme does exactly what it should. As you say, maybe a little busy but does the job! Nice work Darryl
  22. Looking good there John, nice to see this back in the game. The paint has really brought it to life, interesting tip on the colours, not that I've any use for Sand Grey yet but who knows... Cheers Darryl
  23. It has, 1/2 k of white powder in a clear plastic bag..... people will talk! I have an idea what I'd like to do, however I feel there could be a gulf between what I'd like to do and what I can do. But as they say, in for a penny in for a pound. I suppose I can vary the amount of water i mix it with depending upon how "sloppy" i need it. In other words, very thin to pour in to a mould or thicker to create groundwork? Thinking Ardennes, Pine 🌲 and a sprinkle of snow. If all else fails, the mummified modeller!
  24. I know, just my peculiar sense of humour! Atb Darryl
  25. Hi Roger, just as soon as I can get the Jagdpanther and Grant off the bench I'll get back to it, if only I had the time.... Cheers Darryl Hi John, thanks for asking...unfortunately not. She has the full range of post viral symptoms I'm afraid, the worst of which being still struggling to get breath, it's so worrying 6+wks of it so far. As for sniffing glue....better idea. Onwards and upwards as they say. Atb Darryl
