About 10 years ago my younger brother was working at a hobby shop that failed. He told me to show up on sale day and I loaded up a basket with files, blades. Dremel stuff... you name it. A whole basket of goodies... for 10 bucks. Also got ALL the painting and paint supplies. Also full bins of of brass, aluminum and stainless. And all of the Plastruct styrene and other plastics. So I’m pretty well supplied forever.
I chucked the long end of the brass nipples in my electric drill and cut the short side off right next to the flange while drill was spinning with a fine tooth hacksaw.
Before you get too far you will have to remove that bracket on the right side of transmission to attach the oil cooler hose thing. Bolts go in from the back.
Looking good. Was meaning to ask about the 2 brass rods towards rear. Are those soldered in? Autograph instructions can be pretty vague. I haven’t done a gong with that yet cuz I wasn’t sure what the finished height should be. Did you just butt them to the transmission and solder them?
I have done the modification to the body to clear the added brackets.i used a dremel and a reinforced cutting wheel. The metal is fairly thick in this area. There is a template included on the b sheet of photo etch. I used scrap sprue and some scratch building round stock to hold the template exactly where it needed to be and scratched the outline on with an exact knife. Then cut with the cutoff wheel, staying a bit back from lines so I could finish up with files and fingernail abrasive sticks. They are cheap at the nail care area of Walmart. Can’t say I’d want to do this on a finish painted body as there is quite a bit of metal to cut off. I used a variable speed Foredom to do the cuts because I can turn the speed down much lower so more control. The lowest speed my Dremel will go is 5000 RPM. Too fast to not have an accident. I wish you good luck on this step as it will be hard to fix. I will be painting the area as in Autograph pics... Matt black as it is an extension on the frame.
