  1. Cockpit done. Painted Gunze interior green. Shaded with highly diluted Tamiya XF1 black and highlighted by hand with various greys and greens from Vallejo. The seatbelts were also painted with Vallejo paints and given some life with Abteilung oil paint. Silver buckles and chipping done with Citadel metallics. I used a couple of MIG filters to blend it together and some MIG dust pigments in the foot well. I don't like Eduard pre-painted photoetch. The interior green is not a good match for the paint I was using so I taped over all the black and red parts and sprayed the green the same colour as the rest of the cockpit. 2. I don't plan on getting them wet. I was mainly wondering if one was sharper or stayed sharper for longer?
  3. Can anyone tell me the difference between Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel Swann Morton blades?
  4. 3 months for a Spitfire GB sounds reasonable. I'd go for Single Type if we can have it sooner than a regular GB.
  5. I don't know much about the Spiteful and Seafang. How closely are they related to the Spitfire?
  6. To keep this thread on topic I've created a new thread to discuss a possible Group Build. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=62692
  7. With all the positive talk about the new Airfix Spitfire XII at the moment it seems there's a lot of Britmodellers with at least one Spitfire in the stash. Well how about actually building one!? There was a vast array of Spitfire's produced so I don't think it'll be a boring Group Build. I suggest we allow the Seafire too. So, who's up for a Spitfire Group Build?
  8. I've got 5 Spitfire's in the stash. Seems we all love Spitfire's... I propose a Spitfire Group Build! Who's in?
  9. I pre-mix/thin all my paints and store them in empty Vallejo dropper bottles. £60p each from Modelsforsale. I've even got a case to store them in.
  10. DeHavilland Mosquito. Versatile, Beautiful and a masterpiece of design and construction.
  11. Check your kits peeps. Mine has short-shot flaps. XII_ShortShot by Jazzy Jase, on Flickr
  12. I can't believe it was that long ago. I was 10 and remember watching it on the news, in awe of all the military hardware.
  13. Mine's been dispatched by Hannants. I paid for 1st class postage so it should be here tomorrow.
  14. C6MSD, your Hellcat looks great. Thanks for sharing. Sloooooow progress on mine. I've finished the engine. Cockpit is the next job. The Aires engine is very nice. First I added pushrods made from styrene rod. Then painted it all black, with Alclad aluminium on top. The front part was sprayed Tamiya XF19 and the black parts brush painted with Citadel Chaos black. Dry brushing and a wash of Mig washes gave it a weathered look. Finally I did the wiring. I didn't like the PE wiring provided in the kit so made my own. First I drilled holes into each cylinder, then I this I used 36 lengths of 0.2mm lead wire. Looking at photo's I've seen this wiring in a few different colours. I decided to leave mine unpainted, but having seen the finished engine I'm wishing I'd painted it copper to add some colour to the engine. Having re-checked my references I think I can probably add in a few extra wires around the front of the engine, which I will do. 15. Don't worry Rabspat I've added you and Metallicus to the list.
  16. I'm going with the Lancaster at number one and the B52 second. Whilst I adore the Mossie I couldn't put it as the greatest bomber as it was so much more than just a bomber... greatest aircraft of all time!
  17. Tamiya acrylics don't brush well. If you're set on using acrylics you'd be better off with something like Vallejo color which is designed for brush painting.
  18. You may be watching for some time... I only managed to paint the engine over the whole Christmas holiday.
  19. Nice work. It's fun to build one of these little vehicles in between aircraft.
  20. I have a B-25G with an enormous cannon in the front to build. Not sure if it's classed as Close Air Support?
  21. If it's a mistake then fair enough, but if it's not then what? The text on the sticker just says "Silver Metal Plated Parts". So which parts? And what's the point?
  22. I've just stumbled across this Tamiya Spitfire Vb "Metallic Edition". Does anyone know anything about it?
  23. Alclad primers work very well with Gunze and Tamiya. It's pre-thinned too. I would suggest using their own airbrush cleaner afterwards.
  24. I generally use between 66% and 75% thinner and airbrush at 15 psi. Have a read of this if you've got time. The author goes to some depth in explaining his use of Tamiya colours: http://hyperscale.com/features/2002/gekkogc_3.htm Edit: I should say he's using a few different thinners in that article. The x20a thinners are similar to IPA but have a drying retarder in them I believe.
  25. That's a very nice model of a very odd looking aeroplane.
