If this is spirit based then does it react if you put an oil wash over the top? I'm thinking Mig washes here as they're thinned with spirit are they not?

About a week ago, I started a Tamiya Spitfire Mk1, intending to use the decals from the superb Southern Expo sheet. This is as far as I got.

If I suspend work on this (I have plenty of things to keep me busy for the next week or so) will it fulfil the 25% rule? If so, can I include it in the groupbuild?
I'd say that just about fits within the 25% rule.

I don't think I'd still be making models if I was brush painting them. I get a lot of pleasure from airbrushing a model. It's the shading and weathering that you can do with an airbrush that makes such a difference to me.

May I use one of these for my sig, please?
Of course, that's what they're for!

I'm just in the process of changing the size of the Spitfire a little but go ahead and use them.
-
Ooh, yes please. Haven't built a floaty plane since returning to the hobby.

Here's my banner attempts for the Spitfire STGB. Thanks to Mike for permission to use the BM logo.

EDIT: Changed the Spitfire slightly

Think I'll leave this here....
Up for everyone to use, It can be resized, and if people want it resized, i.e its too large in general, I'll edit the master copy.
In fact this is a bit better

Cool banner. I've been working on one too. Will post it up tomorrow when it's done.

As I have just picked up a new Airfix Mk XII from my LMS, may I join?
Yes you may!

-
There haven't been any objections to including Spitefuls and Seafangs so as far as I'm concerned they are in, unless objections are raised. In which case we'll discuss!

-
Thanks Ian... You'll have an order shortly.

I'd love to use masks for RAF roundels... I do for Luftwaffe, US and USSR, but I still haven't been able to find the correct colours in acrylic. I'd be happy with mixing ratio's for Tamiya or Gunze, but so far nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?

My preferred method is to fill the nose with lead shot and then cover in PVA. As Dan said, it takes a while to try but doesn't damage the plastic.
-
Hey Spence, I really like the effect. Will you do this for the rest of the airframe?
What are your reasons for using this technique instead of pre-shading panel lines and post-shading the centers of panels?
-
This might be a silly question but please indulge me.
Does a single type group build include derivatives of a type or just the original subject, in other words does it include seafires and floaties!
Seafire's were mentioned in the original thread and no objections we're made so I'm happy to include them. If the floaty ones you refer to we're based on the Spitfire airframe then those should be included to.

Sorry Rob, It's 2011. Pushed through this year to celebrate the Spitfire's 75 anniversary.

Can't help with the seats, but I'm interested in the answer.
Just wanted to give you a tip: If you're ordering direct keep your orders under £18 or you'll get stung for the VAT AND handling charge. It's often cheaper to pay the postage on two or three £18 orders than get stung on one big one.

I don't think it's the doors that are incorrect, but the gear legs. They are should rake forwards, not back. Can you swap them over?
-
NICE!!!! Will this be appearing in print as a build/review?
-
I've complied the list of interested parties and potential builds.
As for what we call it; Spitmodeller GB? Spitfire 75th Anniversary GB? Other suggestions?

I only have one kit in my entire stash that doesn't have any aftermarket parts in the box...
So if I may join in I'll be building this:

I won't be able to start until 9th May but that still leaves me plenty of time.
-
I'm happy to host or co-host with someone who knows more about the subject.
I shall be building an Italeri (Ocidental) Spitfire XVIe.

Okay I've looked at the Calender and we could fit it in starting 5th March and ending 5th June. It's breaking my rules but I cannot let this anniversary of the worlds most famous fighter pass with no tribute.
Yay. Mish, I love you!

Aspirational work as usual Spence. When/where can we see pics of the Spitfire?

Accurate RAF, USAF & Luftwaffe colours
in Paint

The best acrylic paint I've used is Gunze Sangyo Mr Hobby. They have an excellent colour range, especially for WW2 aircraft, but they thin with smelly laquer thinners.
I've heard good things about Lifecolor, which thin with water and have a good and expanding range of WW2 aircraft colours.
