Ok, I tried an oil wash on the end of one wing and it seemed to work fine. I used my usual Daler Rowney low odour thinners and had no problems.
Good news.

Hello Rulers ,
I've read about this group about Spitfire ( Giorgio, my friend advert me !
) , I've just started a Spit as you can see here:http://forum.tantopergioco.it/discussion/3...tto-...#Item_36
it was february 23, anyway at the moment the situation I think is under the 25% dead line.
Can I be one of yours entering in this GB ?
Of course I will put also here the advanced stages of the work, may be with shorter comments, just because english is not my language. Is it possible at this stage ?
Thank you in advance.
Ciao
Giovanni
Hi Giovanni,
I think you're on the border of 25% but I'm going to allow it... It looks like a very challenging kit you've got there.

-
Congratulations to everyone. Especially Rowan!

-
Red? Not familiar with those, all mine (about 6) are in blue or white boxes.
lol, typical. I don't know what I've ended up with, it doesn't look like there are any short-shots and the only really noticeable sink marks are on the tops of the wings in front of the control surfaces.
-
Denstore, buying 3 is gonna get expensive - I think I'll be ok with the one I've got.
Doug, mine came in a red box!?
EDIT: Can I combine the two kits to fix any flaws of the other one and make a better Spit?
-
I now have both the Italeri and ICM kits and am trying to decide which to build. As davidelvy said, neither is perfect. They're both going to require more work than the average Tamiya kit. The ICM has the usual flash and sink marks. The Italeri kit is a little chunky around the nose and I've already discovered the Ultracast spinner doesn't fit it.
-
Ahhh- I may well have a go at doing Caroline Grace' Spit for this one- its a stalled project for a special person- maybe now I can give it the impetus it needs. Plan is to use the ICM fuselage and the Hasegawa wings and other detail parts.
Go on Mental, that sounds like a worthwhile project.

It looks like you've got a lot of work to do on that Spit. Definitely within the rules I think.
-
Cool, this should be good.

-
Well folks, today's the day so go get building and have fun! :-)
-
Hi Paul. You can enter as many builds as you like. Not sure on the refurbishment, do you have any photos?
-
That sounds like and interesting idea. Will be watching closely.
-
Hi SLoB,
You're welcome to enter your models in multiple Group Builds as long as each one isn't more than 25% already started.

Excellent. Good to see the prototype being built.
-
Nice. I'll be very impressed if you get them all finished.
-
ok I waited.....no posts yet so....
lets start with something obvious;
the dates aRRE....:
5th March to 5th June. The rules thread is now up.
I had to restart my BoB Mk 'Haddie', can I enter with that?
Eric aka Yankymodeler
If it's less than 25% complete then yes you may.

Here's my entry into the Spitfire STGB.
Italeri's Spitfire XVIe in 1/48 with a few extras.
I'll be modelling Spitfire LF. Mk. XVIe, TB675/4D-V, 74 Squadron, Germany, 1945.
SpitXVIe_01 by Jazzy Jase, on Flickr
Extras are:
Xtradecals 74 Squadron
Eduard paint mask
Eduard photo etch
Hobbydecal stencils
Ultracast guns
Ultracast wheels
Ultracast seat
Ultracast prop & spinner
Ultracast exhausts
Quickboost control stick
I've got my work cut out on this one. The kit is the Occidental kit which has, so I've read, accuracy issues around the nose. I'm not going to attempt to correct them.
I had a play with it last night and can already see that the holes for the guns are much too large for the Ultracast items and the Ultracast spinner is much narrower than the kit item.

Place photo's of your finished builds here.
Please post a maximum of 4 photo's.
Comments should only be posted on the build thread.

Welcome to the Spitfire 75th Anniversary Group Build. Open to any Spitfire, Seafire, Spiteful or Seafang.
The GB will run from 5th March 2011 to midnight 5th June 2011. Your hosts are Jazzy Jase and RAF Colonel and we will be happy to answer any questions you have.
A build report may be started at any time during the GB, with a maximum of 25% progress allowed on previously started builds.
All builds must be finished by midnight on the 5th June to be eligible for the GB poll.

Only 5 votes... I suspect you'd get much more if this was a poll where people can quickly vote for their favourite and remain anonymous.
Anyway, here's my vote:
5 points: CliffB - Pz38(t)
4 points: rowmk9 - Bf109E-3
3 points: Mish - Dewoitine D.520
2 points: Smuts - Smut's Adler armored car
1 point: mrcooljules - Horse Power v Horse Power
-
Not yet. The sub forum for the GB is open and I'll be getting the lists and rules up tomorrow.
-
That's gorgeous.

-
Oh yes. The Tamiya P-47 in my stash keeps winking at me.
-
I'm planning to use an oil wash on my Sufa, so I'll report back in due course.
I look forward to the results!

Hi Rowan,
As long as you're still building a Spitfire, I don't believe the rules state the markings need to be accurate!
