Right, the last few weeks have been very busy for me with work and a few family issues, so I've been slowly progressing with the Spit and I'm finally finished. I'm quite happy with the result, but as usual I think my weathering leaves a lot to be desired. Also I had a few paint/airbrush issues which have left the paint on the underside a little thick and I've lost some detail. Next build for me is the new Revell Lancaster. EDIT: Increased picture size.

F/A 18 Hornet pilot shoots down his wingman?
Jazzy Jase replied to Jazzy Jase's topic in Real Aviation
Thanks guys. I did wonder why the Skyhawk pilot did not eject until his aircraft was a fireball. -
Does anyone know anything about this "accident"? Just seems a bit strange to me. F/A 18 Hornet pilot shoots down his wingman.

I've just been attempting to mask the underside of my Spitfire before spraying the top colours but the masking tape would not stick to the paint. I thought it might just be the tape, so I tried a different tape, which still would not stick. In fact none of my tape sticks to it (Tamiya and Jammy Dog)! This has never happened to me before and I find it quite unusual. It's the first time I've used that particular colour (Vallejo Air Duck Egg Green), but I've always used Vallejo Airs in the past without problem. I've given it a coat of Klear, which the tape will hopefully stick to, but has anyone experienced this before?

Very nice. I have one of these in the stash. I've also bought some new decals for it as I don't trust the Academy ones.

Vallejo Airs brush very nicely. I use them pretty much exclusively and hand paint all the small areas. I don't think there is an exact match for Interior Green. The instructions on my mustang tell me to mix 2 colours for the cockpit: XF-3 : 2 XF-5 : 1 I used Vallejo Air Interior Green instead!

Thanks Andy.

Got my re-scribing done last night and I've been thinking about the gun barrels... I've chopped off the protruding ones, but I'm not really happy with the result. It doesn't look very round or gun-like. Can I get away with putting red tape over the guns? Was this done during the BoB? Alternatively, can I just drill them out? Does anyone have any good close-up pictures of Mk1 wings/guns?

BF110, JU88 and HE-111 - Best kits in 1/72?
Jazzy Jase replied to Jazzy Jase's topic in Aircraft WWII
Thanks everyone. Looks like I'm sorted with the Hasegawa 111 (probably go for the Revell re-boxing), and the Hasegawa 88. Have Revell re-boxed Hasegawa's 88? These two look incredibly similar on the box art: The 110 is a trickier one. Does the Italeri kit have raised panel lines? I don't mind trading some accuracy for nicely engraved panel lines and a better fit? Should I track down a Fujimi 110? -
I would recommend Relish Models for Vallejo paints.

BF110, JU88 and HE-111 - Best kits in 1/72?
Jazzy Jase replied to Jazzy Jase's topic in Aircraft WWII
Thanks for the detailed information Matt. I'm not looking forward to the glass houses on them, but I will cheat somewhat and use Eduard masks! I've had a quick look on the net and it doesn't look like anyone has the Fujimi 110 in stock anymore. -
What is the best BF 110 in 1/72 and does anyone know anything about the new Revell kit? http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=RV4341 Are there any decent JU88 kits in 1/72? I've got an Italeri one, but I don't like the raised panel lines. I'm guessing the Hasegawa kits are the best HE-111's? Is this Revell kit a re-boxing of the hasegawa? http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=RV4377

What is the best way to remove sanding/filler dust from all those finely engraved nooks and crannies?
-
Made quite a lot of progress yesterday: The Wings (front and rear) glued into place. Canopy was Kleared, glued into place and masked. Filled some gaps using Mr Surfacer 500. Levelled the Mr Surfacer using Mr Thinner. Sanded all remaining joins. This was my first time using Mr surfacer and I really like it. Very easy to work with, but boy does it pong! I can confirm now that the canopy is on that you can't see the instruments or much of the interior. Tonight's job is some gentle re-scribing the areas that were sanded and preparation for priming tomorrow! I'll get some pictures put up tonight or tomorrow.
-
I'm guessing IP means instrument panel? I'm no Spitfire expert, so just followed the instructions, which shows only the centre section in black.
-
I've found my camera so here are some proper pics of the interior. I've definately overdone the drybrushing. Off to the London Beer Festival today, so no progress today, but hopefully tomorrow.
-
Finally made some progress. The cockpit is done and I've joined the two fuselage halves together. I think I've over-weathered the interior, but seeing as it will all be sealed inside I'm not too concerned. Sorry about the quality of the pictures. Couldn't find my camera, so had to use my phone. I'll try to take some proper pictures of the cockpit before I glue it inside the fuselage.

Ha. That was indeed me! Small world. Shame they only had the one Mossie kit, they had four Me-410 kits and I couldn't decide which one to get!

Hi Tizzy, Thanks for the heads up on the decals. I'm a long way off decaling at the moment. Still barely made any progress due to work and holiday. Can anyone suggest a good set of aftermarket decals for a BoB spitfire in 1/72?
-
Just got back from a rainy week in Cornwall. It was a real shame the weather was so bad for Air Day. I did manage to pick up a Fine Molds ME 410 from the solitary model shop/tent though.

ORVA is that AVRO spelled backwards by any chance???

I'll be there. My Gran and Cousins live just outside Helston. What a coincidence we're going down to visit next Tuesday for a week!!!
-
Slow progress so far... I haven't done anything. Been too busy, but hoping to at least paint the cockpit over the weekend.

Spencer's Heinkel 162 Mistel Combination
Jazzy Jase replied to Spence's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Amazing work. What scale is that? -
Time to make a start on my Tamiya Spitfire. It'll be OOB, but I've believe there are a few things I can do to improve the accuracy of the kit. From Tizzy's thread on the same kit I've read that the crowbar needs removing and the protruding gun barrels. Is there anything else I should do?
