Thanks for the heads up. Jen, how much would you like for the 2 kits?
-
After seeing a rather tiny, but very impressive looking 1/144 Platz FW190D in the MIS Luftwaffe Special I thouhgt I would like to try building one for myself. They are quite expensive but you do get 2 kits in one box. So I was wondering if anyone wanted to go halves with me? I was thinking of ordering the FW190D and P51D from a seller on ebay. I would then split the kits and decals up and photocopy the instructions and forward them onto you in one of the boxes. All costs split 50/50, I reckon it will be around £20 each. Any takers? Here's an example of the FW190 And the P51

If I had £200 to spend on an airbrush and compressor I would buy a Harder and Steenbeck Evolution 2-in-1 from Paul at Little Cars for £108 see here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27705 And an AB-AS186 compressor with air tank for £88 from everythingairbrush.com: http://www.everythingairbrush.com/acatalog/AS_Series.html You'll need a hose too.

Quick update on this one. Eduard Zoom photo etch set turned up this morning. This is my first time working with PE and I'm finding it a little delicate but I've managed to fit the seatbelts and a few bits on the side of the cockpit. You can also see from the picture I have removed the tabs that join the front of the cockpit to the rear and filled the gaps. I've also filled some of the ejector pin marks that would be visible. Sorry about the blurred picture. My camera only managed the one picture before the battery died.

Cool, those are some excellent photos. Thanks for posting the link.

That's the warn bar you are reffering to. Nothing to worry about: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...amp;hl=warn+bar

Do all airbrushes need lubricating? I'd never even thought of lubing up my H&S Ultra. I want to look after the Evolution so should I be buying some? What is recommneded for H&S airbrushes?

Nice work turnerdad, I always admire your builds. -
I've got 10 bottles of the stuff stashed under the modelling desk in a box. The missus was getting really fed up of me buying a bottle every time we went to Morrisons though.

My notes show the following... RLM 82 Lichtgrün - Late-war topside camouflage: Vallejo Air 22 Tamiya XF5 or XF5:1 + XF2:1 or XF5:1 +XF3:1 I can find two dark greens. I suspect it is the first you require. RLM 83 Dunkelgrün - Late-war topside camouflage: Vallejo Air 13 Tamiya XF61 or XF24:1 + XF51:1 or XF24:1 +XF51:1 RLM 71 Dunkelgrun - Wartime splinter scheme: Vallejo Air 15 Tamiya XF62:1 + XF49:1

Hi Tony, Sorry, I forgot to post the link to the thread: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27247 The thread on mossie.org may also be worth a read: http://www.mossie.org/forum/read.php?1,3967 The debate is about the aircraft you chose, HR241. I also chose to make that aircraft until I found there were a few unknowns about it. I've seen that photo and my main question is how do we know that photo shows a 418 Sqn aircraft when the squadron codes are not visible? Also, I have read that 418 Sqn did not carry radar. Regards Jason

That's a beautiful build. There's some debate going on about this particular aircraft at the moment here. Are you able to add anything to this? I see you have built it with the nose guns removed. What were your references and the decal sheet? Jason

Hi Rob, Having had the same problem with all of my Tamiya builds so far it's usually quite easy to find an alternative. If there aren't direct Tamiya X and XF equivalents then there will be some mixing ratios somewhere. You could try http://www.paint4models.com/ or if you can tell us what the aircraft is or tell us what the colours are I am sure we can figure it out.

Sorry Paul, didn't know you had spare cups in stock or I would have recommended you too.
-
Why not speak to the guys at everythingairbrush.com? They may be able to order the paint cup from Germany for you.
-
Ah, fair enough. Thinking about it, I'm quite happy to make any Typhoon that took part on or around D-Day. So is all I need to do is find an aircraft that had standard Sky squadron codes and no fancy markings and then buy some sky decals. I'm sure someone on here can point me in the direction of an aircaft that I can build? Photos are always useful too.
-
Which decals did you order? I can only find the Xtradecals set. I've a good mind to make the aircraft (TP-V) from the photo at the top of the thread. I've got some 8inch black letter decals for the serial number, so that's not a problem. I could spray the squadron codes if I made some masks. "T" and "V" would be easy. "P" a little trickier.
-
Cheers Chris. I'm sure you won't be surprised to learn that the decals I have are for TP-F. I would quite happily build amother aircraft if I could get the decals for it (bearing in mind that this it has to be for daets close to D-Day). Any ideas? I will order the quickboost Tailplanes, but I don't think I will go as far as changing the exhasts and canopy this time around. Altering the other things I will do as part of construction. What about the airwaves ones?

I though it simply acted as a paint mask? -
I'm building a 198 Squadron Typhoon for the D-Day group build using the 1/72 Academy kit. I've been doing a little research and it seems the tailplanes are too small. I see that Quickboost and Airwaves make replacements. Is one better than the other? I have also read that the lights on the leading edge of the wings were removed or covered over on rocket-carrying Typhoons of this period. Is that correct? EDIT: Would it be covered over with a yellow leading edge strip or was that removed too? I have found a picture of a 198 Sqn Typhoon. Can anyone tell me what colour the spinner is? Looks black to me, but it is a black and white photo! Is there anything else I need to be aware of when building this kit? Thanks Jason

I have had a quick go with the 3M tape on a model. (I usually use this on the car.) It is slightly thicker than Tamiya tape which makes it a little less easy to bend around shapes. It is also a little tackier, so I wonder if it will remove paint? Next time I have the airbrush out I will put some paint on a dead kit and try the 3434 tape on the paint to see if it removes it.
-
I will dig out the roll of tape when I'm washing the car tomorrow then have a play with it (the tape!) and report back.
-
I have a roll of 3434 tape (for my car) and I would say that it is quite different to Tamiya tape. It is thicker and I'm not sure you would prove as easy to use around intricate shapes as Tamiya tape. I can dig out the roll from the garage and experiment if it would help?

Sweet. I used to love flying Chippies as an Air Cadet.
