Well done everyone.

-
After priming I give the model a good rubbing with a square of material from an old pair of jeans.
-
Finally, some photo's. I couldn't get the lighting right so they're a little orange and don't show the pre/post-shading very well.
The airframe and all the small parts have been primed in Alclad grey primer. I then pre-shaded the bottom with black and sprayed Gunze RLM65 over that. I then lightened the RLM65 with white and highlighted the centre of the panels before covering the whole lot in a very thin layer of RLM65 again. The photo's don't show the effect, but it looks good in natural light.

Next I will be masking off the bottom and pre shading the top before spraying RLM70 all over.
Edit: fixed the pictures.

Why not try Coca Cola?

I always use Ultracast if I can. Relish Models sells them or you can buy them direct, but remember to keep the price under £18 or you'll get stung for VAT AND the Royal Mail's Christmas bonus service charge.

Just one for me. A Hasegawa Hurricane started for the BoB GB.
-
Looks good so far. Will be keeping a keen eye on this one.
-
My Hurricane won't be finished. I'm annoyed at allowing myself to start another model instead of persevering with the Hurri.
-
Thats fine Brian. Sounds like to build as slowly as I do.
Aurora, good to have you on board.
-
Will contact MDC, will have to wait but better that than for it to look wierd.
Thanks everyone.
If you're desperate I have 1/2 a pot of Gunze Dark Earth you're welcome to come and collect from Bracknell.
-
I've tried various Tamiya mixes and a Vallejo Air colour that was referenced on a conversion chart and didn't like any of them. Can you get hold of some Xtracrylics or Gunze Dark Earth?
-
Thanks. The main parts are fixed together and it's almost ready for some paint. Having a day off to watch The Pacific today so I'll update tomorrow with some photos.

Here's my entry into the Groupbuild.
Tamiya's BF109E-3 in 1/48 with a few extras.
109E3_01 by Jazzy Jase, on Flickr
Montex masks and markings
Hobbydecal stencils
Master guns for the wing guns and Quickboost guns for the cowling guns
Ultracast wheels
Ultracast seat
Ultracast prop & spinner
Ultracast exhausts
So far I've painted the cockpit using Gunze RLM02 with RLM66 for the Instrument Panel and weathered with Vallejo acrylics and Citadel washes. I've painted the wheel wells using the same method but I forgot to photograph them.

Also, without photos, I have painted the wheel hubs, prop, radiators and gun barrels, all in a variety of Gunze and Alclad.

There's now an in-box review of this kit over on Aeroscale.
No word on accuracy other than "the spinner looks a bit too bulbous and that the propeller blades are flat and a little on the thick side"
It looks good enough for me so I've ordered one from Relish Models.
-
Wow, that's nice. Can't wait to see the diorama.
-
It want's you to vote for both parts of the poll. I think, in the past when there's been a lot of builds like this then there is an option in both polls for "no-vote" and you then vote for the model you want and also "no-vote" in the other poll.
-
I've got a mix for Tamiya if that's of use.
Only problem is it's at work so it won't be until Monday when I can get to it
I'd like to know your Tamiya mixes please.

Superb as usual Shaun. Isn't that Swordfish lovely!

From what I've heard, a coat of Klear will hide it.
To avoid this I use Uhu White Tac and try not to touch it with my skin incase it pick up any grease.
-
Gorgeous. Superbly painted and finished.
-
Has anyone got one of these yet? How is it? I haven't seen any reviews yet.

I want to know where to get the small metal dishes used in all the how to DVD's out at the moment - ideal for mixing pigments.
I think they're made by Gunze.
I use Ikea tea light holders. £1.99 for 12 and they can be reused anyway:

It's been almost 2 months since I started this Hurricane and I've hardly touched it. For several reasons I've not been able to or wanted to do any modelling recently but I finished the cockpit this week and started gluing fuselage and wings together today.

I've used the Ultracast seat, armour and wheel well but decided against the Eduard photoetch bits because the cockpit looked good enough to me.

I managed to break part of the wheel well when gluing the Ultracast piece in, but I think I've fixed it enough not to be visible.
This kit really seems to be fighting me and I'm not enjoying it, which probably explains the lack of progress. Anyway, I'll press-on and try to get it finished before the end of the GB.

Progress! The top camo colours are finished: (Pics of the finished model will be taken in natural light so won't have the orange tint to them.)
