  1. Nice work so far, you are right the PE doesn't add much, the 1D is just as good. What machines are you doing? Kohimara IX from the fabled Aeromaster sheet for the over GSB one? I have built RNZAF F4Us so far and no two have the same scheme. Watching with interest
  2. Wellington, it's a great kit and you don't see many built.
  3. It has made to the LHS as well, Marcway in Sheffield has some in already.
  4. I'll shut up then, perhaps these were Hawker order numbers. Sorry if I have caused confusion. Oddly, I'm typing this from Brussels as I'm here on business.
  5. Again a straight quote from the Mason book. Interestingly the first production batches get a lot more detail than the later ones. He gives L2045 as being numbered 14 by the Belgians. He also gives L2045 as being issued to 501 as you say, so I don't know what to believe. Could the aircraft have been substitued for another later off the production line? When I built my three Classic Airframe models, I tried to use photographs to prove the correct wing but that is also easier said than done.
  6. I'm quoting Masons Hawker book with L1877. I have no evidence that all aircraft after that serial were metal winged.
  7. Maybe the best bet is to stick to a low numbered machine? I think 27 was a Avions Fairey built aircraft, so maybe the Belgiam built airframes had metal wings? I'll talk to my pal in the Hurricane SIG tomorrow and see what he says. Good luck
  8. I believe that most of the operational Belgian Hurricanes were from British production lines and were armed with .303s. Only about 7 had been built under licence at the time of the German invasion. British serials were L1918-20, L1993-97, L2040-45, L2105-11 which were given the Belgian serials 1 to 20 respectively. Two British Hurricanes had been interned and were used by the BAF. Interestingly, metal wings were introduced on the production lines after serial L1877, so there is a possibility that some Belgian machines were so equipped?
  9. Given the lateness of the production the Belgian Hurricanes would have the underfuselage fairing and late exhaust stubs. AFAIK the Watts propellor was standard.
  10. Thanks guys for the great info, I've sourced some LAU pods from a Belcher bits F-5 set so all I need is to find some bombs, maybe the ones from the B(I) 8 will work?
  11. Looking fabulous so far, I think the AMS resin is just brilliant and you have done a top job painting it. I built my HB MiG17 as you considered, by assembling both fuselage halves then joining together, it went pretty well appart from the cannon cover. I'm looking forward to seing how yours goes.
  12. Thanks guys , for the photo and the clarification, now all I need is to source the 540lbers as I have some CRV pods
  13. Thanks for responding to my LERX request, I'm afraid I have another query; What weapons would a typical mission in Afganistan in 2007 have used? I doubt sidewinders would be carried, which is all the Revell/Hasegawa kit gives you. Also where do I get said weapons from? Thanks in advance.
  14. Just fabulous in concept and execution. I am very impressed.
  15. My plan was to do ZD404 or ZD 437 based at Kandahar in 2007, from the Model Alliance sheet, wich were, according to the sheet GR7s with 65% LERX. Gosh Harriers are complicated aren't they!
  16. IIRC and I could be wrong, the frog eyes two round inlets scoops on the top surface where you stick the fire extingusher if the engine catches fire. The bigger LERX blocks the pervious port which was in the wing leading edge.
  17. Brilliant guys, thanks very much, I thpught I couldn't see the frog eyes on the sprues. Also the markings I like are for 65% LERX.
  18. My wife bought me the Revell Harrier GR7/9 from the Modelzone sale and I can't work out which LERX it has. Is it 65% or 100? Thanks for looking
  19. I stand corrected about the underwing stores, during Firedog and it's follow up, I still believe that the RNZAF itself did not purchase rocket pods. Nice photos by the way, good find.
  20. Mumbles, great work so far, I did the 1/48th scale version and always enjoy seeing RNZAF aircraft. One point you may want to check, I was under the impression that other than for trial purposes on a singlre aircraft, the RNZAF did not use underwing stores. I believe the wing aerial is a LORAN aerial, though why it was wing shoulder mounted I have no idea. Also the RNZAF didn't use the wing tip tanks as a standard, possibly to reduce wing fatigue? There are a number of great photo in the Brendan Deere book. I'll watch this with interest. Andy
  21. Building targets Mr W, shame on you theres lots of BoB aircraft to do for November. Nice tank though!
  22. I agree with the quality, but the first 70 kits had incorrect metal intakes, which were replaced in subsequentl boxings. They basically fitted incorrectly if they were put on the right way up but perfectly if upside down! I reviewed the kit for QSM and got into all sorts of correspondence with the owner but hopefully yours will be good. I did the Gannet and Scimitar as well and they were just superb.
  23. I remember them well, I just couldn't afford to buy any out of my paper round pocket money. I remember walking to the next small town to the cycle shop that sold Revell models as a sideline, because the kits were so much easier to buld than the Airfix ones at the local Woolies. One kit, one tin of Humbrol and the bus fare home. Infact nothing has changed in 40 years.
  24. Thanks for that, I think I'll be getting one after seeing yours.
  25. Thats really different. I looked at the conversion at SMW and just ended up buying the British stores set. Good to see some 1/48th stuff being built, I hope it encourages Tamiya to keep putting the kits out.
