  1. Lovely work on the LVG, Robert I'm glad the wee buckles came in handy - looks like you have mastered the dark arts of stringing bipes Keep going! Cheers, Von Buckle
  2. Hi Doug, Model is finished and in the 'Ready for Inspection' section should you wish to see the old girl complete. Cheers, Bob
  3. Hi Mr Meat, The Silber Grau is a homebrew consisting of 2 parts Mithril silver to 1 part Skull white. Both paints coming from the Games Workshop range of paints. I think the names have changed since I knocked up my last tanker full. The paint is thinned 40% paint to 60% tamiya thinner. Goes on like a glove! Von Buckle VB & Bar Bar
  4. In the display case @ Hannants London VB
  5. Well, my friends, the curtain has finally come down on my MFJ III Pfalz DIIIa - YAY!!! It has been 5 long years since my last completed kit. I guarantee you, you won’t have to wait another 5 more. Not with the likes of WNW’s build quality and attention to detail. Superb!! Let me start by saying a big Thank you to Steve Robson. His generosity knows no bounds - cheers mate! A big thank you goes out to Garry from Hannants London. He gave me the birthday gift of one of Doug Craners superb wooden wonders - cheers Gazz! To Sir Peter Jackson: Thanks for pouring your time and passion into WNW. You have given all of us innumerable hours of enjoyment, speculation and a web based brotherhood of loyal followers - Gawd Bless Ya! Last but not least... A super human thank you to all those who frequent this forum. For your encouraging comments and your continued support - many thanks!! What you see before you is my rendition of an unknown pilot + unknown serial MFJ.III Pfalz. The only surviving picture and the basis for my build can be seen on page 64 of Greg VanWyngarden’s Pfalz Scout Aces of World War One. From this sole surviving picture I went with a gut feeling (I’m happy to be proven wrong) that the band around the diamond was yellow and not black. Why? I can see no tonal difference between the Diamond band and the yellow tail section. Like I say, I’m happy to be wrong ;-) Let the pictures begin… ;) ;)
  6. The rigging has begun! My Pfalz will soon be on the flight line VB
  7. Mini update for my loyal 'fan' Tail feathers on. Machine Guns installed. Wind Screen installed - reduced the thickness of the screen by scrapping with a no15 blade, polished with many grades of micromesh and then dipped in Klear. Tail skid installed. Control horns installed with eyelets. Slowly coming together, my friends VB Top Down View
  8. Coming together. Dry bolting bits on - you get the effect! Onwards and sideways. Von PfalzKnut
  9. Eyelets installed in the upper wing. A handy tip for my fellow bucklers! Use a piece of tamiya tape folded back on itself to create a finger station for the weeeee eyelets. Make sure you take most of the sticky out of the tape before you load up with your precious cargo This makes manoeuvring of eyelets so much easier - plus, work over a white piece of plastic card/A4 paper - helps with eyelet escapologists Teves & Braun radiator airflow cover. Replaced handle and rod with 0.4 brass tube. A simple upgrade that looks miles better that the 2D original. I'm enjoying this! More to follow... Von Backinthedrivingseat
  10. Double diamond complete! Thank goodness for that! Weathering filters to come - I'm not looking forward to messing with the old girl's makeup, but needs must. Onwards and upwards. Von Buckle
  11. The snail is gaining ground! ;D Diamond cut from masking film using my all singing all dancing vinyl cutter. 8) One diamond down, one to go and a whole heap of lining-up coming my way!! Cross to be mask and sprayed within the diamond after the weathering process. I have gone with a yellow edged diamond as apposed to the black edged diamond shown in Rowan's beautiful Pfalz DIIIa Volume one decal sheet... Why? I see no tonal difference when looking at the one & only photograph that survives, the colour tone between the edged of the diamond and the yellow tail markings are the same IMHO. I'm happy to be proven wrong, but, the yellow stays! Cheers, Von Rocketfuelledsnail
  12. Been busy making vinyl stickers for fellow WW1 nuts 8) I will get back to the Pfalz Soon VB
  13. Spine tape added top and bottom. This will be barely visible when the paint job is complete, but with careful eyeballing you will be able to see it. Cheers, Von Buckle
  14. Tools & supplies = 1x Tamiya paint mixing tool 1x acrylic thinner 1x grip/zip bag 60mmx40mm 1x acrylic paint of choice 1x scissors or snips Hello all, I had a brainFart the other day and thought it right and proper to share my cerebral explosion with my community I hope this becomes a sticky! Mixing acrylic paint ready for the airbrush has never been so easy! The beauty of this method is that you're always in full view of the consistency of the paint and for that reason alone it's worth a try. Please take a look at my collection of images below. A great way of mixing up paint ready to go or for later use. Cheers, Bob Von Buckle Or you can make up a load and store for later. I make enough to fill one colour cup worth of paint. I sling the bag away after use - job done!
  15. For what it's worth, here is an update. Cheers, Bob Von Intrepid-Masked-Buckle-Nut!
  16. I changed my mind on livery... Slowly getting to grips with the complexities of my vinyl cutter, but greatly enjoying myself in the learning process Cheers, Von MaskedBuckleTwister
  17. Haha... It's been a while, dear boy! Hope life is treating you well. Off to put some air in those tyres Von Buckle
  18. Hello all, Mini update to keep you going I sense you lot are riveted to seats waiting for my every move.... not! Tyres have been Gator glued to their rims. Painting of tyres goes like this: Model air white with minute drop of Games workshop red filter to create the most subtle pink known to man, mixed and sprayed. Once this has dried I applied multiple pigments (mud, sand, snow and light yellow) in layers - more will be added once the old girl is up on her legs Thanks for stopping by. Cheers, Von be-spoke in love ;D
  19. Hello friends This build has been and continues to be a breath of fresh air. No fussing, no worrying, no stressing, just good clean fun! The level of detail in this kit (aftermarket stuff aside) is superb. I love it!! All closed up. Bowden cables fitted, identification plates on the engine lump...Not sure why I bothered, you need Hubbell to see them ;D Exhaust hanging on with tamiya tape. More on the way. Von Wingnut Fanboy
  20. Onwards and upwards! The Joy has returned! Von Buckle
  21. I'm enjoying this! Not a shred of AMS has entered my head. Just get the thing buttoned up and let the paint job do the rest Not bothering with ignition leads...Hip Hip Hooray!! Cheers, Bob Von Buckle
  22. Hello my furry friends... Tas been a while since glue hit sprue, but I return to you now with my latest project... The magical WNW Pfalz DIIIa. The journey begins... The Pfalz will mainly be built OOTB apart from Steven Robson's wonder wheels (cheers mate!) my buckles for rigging and a wee bit of wiring here and there. For the most part I want to concentrate on getting the job done without slipping into AMS hell! I need one under the belt after such a long layoff - the D.IIIa fits the bill perfectly for this Cheers, Bob Von Buckle VC & Bar Bar Work has begun! Wheel covers hacked out of original part, sanded with a variety of sanding sticks, diamond files and 3M frizzy stuff to leave two perfectly snug rubber (plastic ) tyres. The rubber needs the rubber treatment . They will be brushed with tamiya thin glue, lightly stippled and lightly sanded. PollyS white + the bare minimum of diluted pink will be used for the main colour. Pigments added for dirt and grime. Oh... How good do those wheels look?!!!!! The level of detail must be seen to be believed - I love 'em! Cheers Steven! You Star * Dry fit Work on the tub begins... More on the way... My mojo has returned!! Bye for now Von Buckle
