  1. Is it time to raise the question as to if this can qualify as a historical GB for 2025?
  2. Not cheap but wagons and coaches are still available: https://www.hattons.co.uk/stocklist/siteresults?search/scales/OO/product-types/Wagons%2CCoaches/eras/Era 1 Pioneering/countries/United Kingdom Scratch building should not be difficult as wheel and axle boxes are available from many suppliers. If you want to stay with Airfix products you could hack some Dapol kits around.
  3. That question is one of the reasons that I have not formally proposed this as a GB. My current feeling is that the backstory is what is important. If you wanted to have a display in a museum to show how development based on science was first used what model would you use to illustrate the science behind the development? Writing this brought this memory back Who else remembers this advert from the early 1980's?
  4. I don't think it is that "that the designers don't care about them" but rather they don't sell into Airfix's core market. I picked up the "Ready for Battle" set for well under half-price a few years ago when they were being sold off. 1/48 vehicles seem a niche area. Hannants only list 115 injection models and most of those are by Tamyia. Alongside that there is a very large number of vehicles in other media
  5. You're welcome - hope you can resist the call of the Classic Airfix GB. I was expecting a possible Cortina but a Zodiac would be an excellent addition to the GB. Another factory of note in the area covered by this proposed GB made the AEC B Type Bus.
  6. Plenty of suggestions etc for planes but what about military vehicles in 1/72 and 1/35. It's a few years since the Firefly and Tiger in 1/72. Be nice to see some more.
  7. Any chance to build a Wethersfield based aircraft cannot be turned down so sign me up.
  8. Certainly not warfare only. Early spaceflight would come under boffin( aka rocket science)
  9. With over 30 firm proposals in the 2025 thread I've put this here first and there are enough responses I will start a thread as a firm proposal. Growing up in the 1950's I have various reco llections of secrets from WW2 being revealed and then in the late 1970's we had the publication of RV Jones autobiography and the associated TV series Secret war. Since then the place of science in warfare has fascinated me. So what ideas are out there about modelling subjects that might meet the criteria of having significant input from boffins. At the moment I would exclude wiff's and sci-fi. As a starter my stash includes a Dambuster's Lanc', and a V2. I would include any radar equipped aircraft of WW2.
  10. @Devon Matt if you could give your grandfather's name and date of birth then it should be possible to trace his service details through online genealogical sites.
  11. I don't know how I missed this. As my master project is a series of dioramas there's always room for one more. Sign me up.
  12. I've had an e-mail from Hornby saying that they are having an Advent Calendar but it seems it might be spread over different streams: "Our advent calendar includes an exciting giveaway every day until Christmas! What will you find behind each door? Advent competitions will only be held on one platform a day. So, remember to check Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube or the Hornby website for your chance to enter." The link is https://uk.hornby.com/christmas/christmas-grotto which is not an Advent Calander!
  13. Browsing in a remainder bookshop I spotted this https://www.google.com/search?q=Surrey+rifle+club+railway+book&client=firefox-b-m&sca_esv=586734894&tbm=isch&sxsrf=AM9HkKlJgQW5sdQJpLMPtoNn2D39xXhmTw:1701376223780&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi7l8qryOyCAxUMO-wKHQcUA0kQ_AUIBigB&biw=1280&bih=672#imgrc=vV619gkSX_1fRM A cut out stag on a railway would make an interesting build.
  14. A raid on Lidl this morning produced these: When I bought them my intention was, in the words of @Enzo the Magnificent "to build them all". However my plans have been scuppered by the change of dates for the build. 1) They are Christmas presents so I will not see them again until 25th and 2) Even if I got them early, on the 24th some of us are working. On that date (I am working Santa trains at our local preserved railway) and I may also be working part of Christmas day depending on alterations to the church rota. So it looks as if I would only have the super-hero option open to me.`
  15. Good results there As someone who frequents model railway forum as well as BM it always strikes me as odd as too how little cross-over there is between the two genres of modelling.
  16. With th Pleased to hear that someone has had success with this kit. I found them difficult to build mine took well over the time allowed in a Blitz build and ended up with a wonky chassis.
  17. Unless there is one I have missed I mentioned the other thread in the OP as I did not want to take it away from the valid question about storage.
  18. Rather than take. Off topic... For years I kept those odd spare parts off kits and a few bits of dismantled models. Then I realised I never used then and disposed of most of them. The only things I kept were items, such as WW2 era bombs that I knew had a place in my future plans. I'm glad I chose that route as I have recently built kits where it seemed I had as many spare parts left than I used in the build. Are you a spares hoarder and is so examples of how you use them please?
  19. Ouch: I got less than that when I traded in my 1:1 model in the late 1970's
  20. Going back to @brewerjerry 's original point. The problems are usually a) it could be a call centre where the agents work for different companies and just answer calls and/or b) they are working from a script on their screen which doesn't match your enquiry. It's not the agents fault. The problem is wore with AI and chat systems. I can usually find the answer to my question on a company website so might only phone them or use a chat function if I cannot find an answer. Then their system keeps asking you the same question either automatically or via a person using the scripts. I had a question for a local council yesterday about an issue which was ambiguous on their web-site. The telephone system had no option that led me to the right person, so I pressed a number at random. I got through to someone who accepted that and said they would put me on hold and talk to a colleague. I then got the answer I required. A high proportion of cases where people don't seem to listen is down to the person on the other side of the communication. That's why in the case of safety critical voice messages the receiver has to repeat the instructions back. Not hearing or mis hearing causes many issues.
  21. STGB's have never been something I have been drawn to but then this came on the market https://www.scalemates.com/kits/special-hobby-sh72395-f-84f-thunderstreak--1473478 I will have to join in as Wethersfield's runway pointed towards our house and is very close. Unfortunately we moved into the village after the base closed so all we had were the gliders that were based there,
  22. Hope you haven't ordered it as I have this in the stash: it was purchased for a now abandoned project so PM me if you would like it. The abandoned project was to try and build Aircraft types I flew in prior to airliners all looking the same. Two of my most memorable flights were on F27's in and out of Stansted. The out was a fairly low level flight to Glasgow in clear weather. The other was a return flight. Air UK had cancelled a Aberdeen - Norwich flight so the flight I got back from Glasgow was combined with it. So we flew Glasgow - Edinburgh - Newcastle - Norwich - Stansted and this in the days you were served a full meal! So the various parts of the meal & drinks had to be served and cleared away on the various short hops.
  23. Hope you haven't ordered it as I have this in the stash: it was purchased for a now abandoned project so PM me if you would like it.
  24. It's good that KUTA runs to February as progress on this is glacial but still moving forward
  25. Next year is a thin one for me as far as GB's go as I am sticking to my self imposed rule about builds must be either part of my never-ending-diorama or very local subjects but I will add my name to the list offering these for the diorama. they have sat in the stash for many years so another 7 months delay won't be an issue,
