You are correct, sir! I will amend my posts- thanks for the heads-up! As long as we're on the subject of Corsair 1's, here's an interesting link to one I hope gets recovered- what a rare Corsair it would be, and looks to be in pretty remarkable condition!

Mike,... I did a 1/32nd build of this Corsair some time ago with photos and film of the wreckage,...... and the poor lad flying it, 19 year old Lt. Sub. Lt. Raymond Knott is still inside the cockpit of JT630 at the bottom of Lake Sebago,.....  hence it is a war grave.

Thank you Tony. It is very interesting to me. I would like to visit Malta, some days.

PS, : do you sale copy of the second part of your book ?

Hello Alain,....... sorry but the publisher pulled the carpet from under me with the book! At first they decided to cut the book in half and do two volumes, then at the last minute they cut the final chapter from the first book,...leaving the ending at a stupid date! They then decided not to go ahead with volume 2,....... so it will not be released now.

A worthy addition to the Beau quartet. It's interesting to see a variation on a theme like this. Excellent work with the brush. That's one helluva fuel tank slung underneath.

Cheers mate,.... yep quite some tank,..... usually used for ferry purposes.

DFS should have Medium Sea Grey undersurfaces and there are colour pictures showing late war Spit Vs in the MTO with this colour. At the same time I think it can not be discounted that a number of aircraft retained Azure or Light Mediterranean Blue undersurfaces, some aircraft in particular seem to show quite dark undersurfaces compatible with the latter.

Regarding the patterns, I was not clear: I understand what you mean for the B pattern, my point is that MUs don't seem to have always followed the proper pattern, so much that there are examples of aircraft in B pattern (even if it was not supposed to be used anymore) and aircraft with both A and B pattern with reversed colours. So yes, it is pretty unusual but did happen with these repaintings.

Have to say that our Tony @tonyot has recently built ER486 "A" from the same unit from the Airfix 1/72 kit and he chose to represent a scheme where Dark Earth was used to cover the Mid Stone areas, so resulting in a green and brown scheme. As Tony did a lot of research on MTO aircraft he may know more on the scheme used by ER318.

I also have to say that while I've seen a picture of ER486 (there's one in the Osprey volume on the Spitfire Aces in North Africa and Italy), I've not seen any of ER318. The scheme represented by Eduard looks suspiciously a lot like the one worn by ER486 while she carried the A code... wonder if the aircraft they meant to represent was actually ER486 ?

Agreed Giorgio,..... and I built my 274 Sqn model as a Mk.Vc too,....... like you, I`d like to see a photo of ER318 too.

IIRC, the AZ and KP P-51B/C kits had some fairly significant issues- the P-51 SIG also had a pretty comprehensive review of the pros and cons of both kits way before Arma announced theirs- at least enough that I passed on the AZ kit- I already had the KP kit by that time. Having finally got my hands on the Arma kit, I would say it is the best detailed and most accurate one in 1/72 scale, with detail and fit that rivals an Eduard/tTamiya kit,  if they did one in that scale. I would say it's the best in class, and Arma have announced they will be selling overtrees and a second boxing, as the first run has  already sold out, so I would jump on them! You won't be disappointed! (Wish now I had pre-odered more than two, but I guess @tonyot had already snapped them up! ('Fess up. T- you know you're sitting on a case of those puppies! ):giggle:

2nd boxing will have No. 301 squadron  PK-coded Malcoilm hooded Mustang III's! 👍

LOL,.... Mike,... mate I`ve only had the one and built it mate,......... although I am looking forward to the cheaper boxing and may buy a few of these,..... I do have some nice decal options lined up to build after all. I did send pics of my model to Arma,..... but they chose not to use them,..... ah well!

I must admit the latest edition has improved. I suppose it's possible that with the dreaded 'C' word, copy has been in short supply. Perhaps now things are easing substantially, we will see more of the regular stuff.

Thanks for that,..... I wasn`t going to bother again,..... but I will give it a coat of looking at.

    I`ve answered your query re my depiction of OB-R looking too dark over there where you moved it Dave.... repeated here for clarity;

I know I've read elsewhere that late TFXs were delivered in EDSG/Sky but looking at photos of OB-Z RD784 and your build of OB-R, EDSG seems too dark even allowing for fading.   What did you use on your OB-R build, please?  I am inclined to use DSG on my current build of OB-Z.

Aeromaster EDSG if I remember correctly,.... which is a very faded version of the colour,........ with panel lines picked out in Humbrol EDSG,......... if you want to depict them mega faded like they can appear in some pics,..... just use Ocean Grey. Remember that in some b&w photos,..... the bright tropical sunlight reflecting off the aircraft can make them look more faded than they actually were. A cloud goes over or it rains and they look more representatively darker straight away.

Many thanks Tony.  I am just curious about the demarcation in the wing. Maybe I am going blind but I see a slight demarcation.  By 1949 the lack of supplies in the Far East had reached a critical point. Paint was in very short supply.  One frustrated ground crew painted Ed Poole’s Kai Tak Spitfire 19 “purple” due to the lack of PRU blue, ie they had to mix in red to paint the planes.

If you mean the brick red colour,...... it was a doped fabric strip that was applied over the fairing screws to stop them from shaking loose when the cannons were fired.
