1:72 Fujimi McDonnell Douglas FG.1 Phantom A&AEE
tonyot replied to Navy Bird's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Superb as always Bill,..... and an aircraft that I saw flying often when I was stationed near to Boscombe Down,....... albeit in its more `normal' raspberry ripple scheme without the adornments! For your next one,..... well the Alcock & Brown scheme is nice,..... but what about one of the two overall blue retirement aircraft from 19 & 92 Sqn when they were in Germany? Now they do loo fantastic!! Whatever you choose,..... it will be brilliant,.... just like this one, Nice one mate, Cheers Tony -
Very nice Alex,..... good choice. I did one years ago for a magazine article using the old Airfix kit,..... but your`s looks ace! Cheers Tony

Thanks Roger,.... yeah I`ve had a bit of a fixation lately LOL! Thanks Phil,...... yeah quite a simple yet effective conversion,..... and I still have enough to do another one yet, by using some spares box seats..... as long as I don`t muck up the canopy! Cheers Trevor,...... glad you like them mate,.... ta!

Thanks David, and I agree about looking like the Mosquito,..... not just the canopy but the whole nose. Love your North Weald model mate,..... I`m going to have to start putting some models on stands myself to save some space! Thanks Colin,.... glad you like them mate,.... I thought that I`d been pretty quiet lately,.... Cheers Mark,... yeah it is growing quite well,..... I just wish that I could display them all together! Cheers Chris,.... yeah me too,..... I look forward to seeing your`s when they are finished. I quite fancy doing a camouflaged one from the RAF Germany units, maybe 14 Sqn?

Thanks Alistair,..... and your comments are very much appreciated mate,...... cheers. Hiya Mike,..... I would say that it was the first production batch that had the three piece early canopy,...... most of those that I have seen have worn the wartime DFS colours, plus a few in silver which may have been repainted. I assume that the later canopy was retro fitted. No idea about serials etc,..... sorry,.... just check your reference photos! Thanks Steve,..... I didn`t realise that there was a Tasman conversion,..... is that for the Heller kit? Special Hobby do a nice F.1 in 1/72nd scale too. Hiya CC,.... yes I do like the FAAM aircraft,..... I have the CMR 1/72nd kit which I my dig out and build soon. Looks great in EDSG & Sky. I did a later Sea Vampire F.20 in 1/72nd scale too using the Dragon/Cyberhobby kit and that looked nice in its naval colours too....... a 1/48th scale model would look very impressive.

Thanks Neil,..... glad you like them mate,.... cheers. Thanks Dave,.... I`ll get all of the 45 Sqn stuff out and photogarph them together again when it gets warmer. Yah it is a nie conversion,..... I added the resin rear booms before I realised that this actual aircraft had the later style,.... so I had to take them off and re attach the kit ones!! Too much on the go and took my eye off the ball! Thanks Alistair,..... well I`m glad you like them mate,.... I wouldn`t go as far as stunning mind you! Thanks mate,...... yes it is a great conversion set and with some mods to the nose, radar boxes in the cockpit etc it should prove to be a good basis for a night fighter. Thanks Alain,..... well you are very kind mate,........

Thanks Mike,.... I didn`t do a WIP mate,.... so don`t bother looking! Ben (wellsprop) did one in Swiss markings and he made the conversion set! Thanks Rich,..... glad you like it mate, cheers. Cheers Andy,.... sad that you cannot get them in Germany mate,...... might be best to order some from the UK?

Hiya Folks, To add to my 45 Sqn collection, here is a second Vampire T.11, but this time the early variant without ejection seats and a framed canopy, but it does have the later. larger fins. I used the High Planes conversion set, but did not use the early style booms and fins as the aircraft that I was depicting had been upgraded with the later, larger fins. The unit insignia came from a Hornet kit and this aircraft indeed used to help convert the pilots from Hornet`s to the interim single seat Vampire`s,...... before Venom`s took over. Here is the High Planes conversion set,...... having used the seats and one canopy,...... I can still use the set to convert another Vampire using some spares box seats; Here is the model; And here it is with the earlier model that I built, depicting a later T.11, fitted with ejector seats and with the fighter bars on the booms, as worn by the units Venom`s; Cheers Tony

Thanks Duncan,..... yeah it is a nice conversion and a nice scheme too,..... also worn by some Hornet`s. Thanks very much mate. Cheers Pete. Thnks CC,..... glad you ike them mate,.... I`m not aware of a Sea Vmpire conversion,..... yet! Maybe drop Wellsprop a line and ask Ben if he will consider it,..... I did!
