1/48 Hobbycraft Bell YP-59A-BE Airacomet RJ362/G
Julien replied to Julien's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
NACA laboratory at Cleveland had some, and some were based at Wright Field. -
Bell YP-59A-BE Airacomet/42-108773 Swapped for the first production Gloster Meteor I and assigned RAF serial number RJ362/G seen at RAE Farnborough in 1943. This is the Hobbycraft kit which I picked up at the Gloucester model show. Apart from some replacement wheel hubs (lost the originals!), the pitot tube on the tail (not in the kit) and a set of generic seat belts you can hardly see the rest is out of the box. Good kit to build which went together reasonably well. Kit serials, roundels and fin flash from xtradecal sheets and xtracrylix for the paint.

Good news / bad news

USAF Serial 23071 which was built for the French Air Force is now restored by volunteers at the Bentwaters Cold War Museum in markings of the 81st TFW. This aircraft is on loan from the USAF Museum, and was formally at Tangmere. BCWM received it in 2018. The aim was to refresh it and put it back on display. However corrosion in the airframe turned out to be mush more than expected, and along with covid delays its now only finished.

was hoping you could persuade someone to do this as well as the A

The dielectric panel on the T-33 is only on the top of the nose The lower nose is actually stainless steel ! I have seen some museum aircraft where they have painted a second panel for some reason??
-
seems to flare out more at the back

Really good news. I hate to say it but any chance of a 1/72 one, not that it wont stop me buying a few of these! Thx Duncan Julien

The aircraft owned by NALLS AVIATION, Serial Number XZ-439 and registered in the United States as N94422, is the world’s first and only privately-owned and flown Harrier of any kind. It is extremely rare. Of the more than 45 different Harrier variants, there were only 76 Sea Harriers built. This one is the oldest surviving SHAR and the second one to roll off the assembly line. Pics thanks to Navy Bird (Bill) https://www.britmodeller.com/walkarounds/aircraft/harrier/nall/100_6059.JPG

My 1/72 Sword Grumman TBM-3W Avenger as used by the JMSDF. Been sat for a while as I lost interest in it, one of the worse kits ive built, fit was terrible with lots of flash to clean up. Decals were hard to get of the backing paper even with hot water; at least one curled up and was lost. Paint is Xtracrylix Gloss Sea Blue. Kit fought all the way including dropping it once done and having to rebuild the gear and aerials.

Yes that was a gun malfunction. A pilot from Bentwaters had one of these over the Wash, quite a trouser changing moment apparently !
-
Well I do like that, though I can see why its an acquired taste
