  1. Lovely set of shots in some great light. As others have remarked the KC-10 looks ready for retirement (or a repaint).
  2. Following on from visiting ADEX in South Korea on the 4Aviation trip we moved over to Taiwan for 10 days. Here are a few from the air force museum at Gangshan which also happens to be home to T-34s, AT-3 trainers and the air force academy. Images from the rest of the trip are work in progress. The museum has a wide and varied selection of aircraft, helicopters and other equipment such as weapons, engines and radars that have served with the air force. Perhaps most interestingly it also contains a number of aircraft that defectors from the PRC flew over to Taiwan. Entry to the museum is a bargain TWD$200 (about £5) and well worth a visit. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. MiG 19/J-R - Farmer. Flown to Taiwan by a defector from the PRC in July 1977 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. The IL28 Beagle was flown to Taiwan by a defecting crew in November 1965 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. MiG21F-13. Yes, this a Hungarian MiG. Apparently it was confiscated by ROC customs in 1990 and handed over to the ROCAF museum. How it came to be confiscated or why wasn't explained on the information panel. 17. 18. 19. 20. The Presidential 707 can be boarded for an extra £2.50. I was surprised at how primitive it was inside. 21. 22. 23. 24. 25. This F-CK-1B was retired in 2020 and is known as the "Generals' plane" owing to the 19 generals who have flown in it.   3. Thank you Steve, that's very kind of you. I admit I was rather pleased with how they came out given the absolutely minimal notice and the inevitable reaction of looking at the jet noise instead of in front of the jet noise.

  9. After visiting ADEX we spent a couple of hours at the National War Memorial in the centre of Seoul. The memorial is well worth a visit both for the exhibits outside and the galleries inside which tell the story of the 1950-53 war along with the "North Korean Military Provocation Room" that details ongoing aggression by the north against its southern neighbour. Entry to the memorial is free and there is a large car park underneath. If you are ever in Seoul the memorial is well worth a visit. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. North Korean SP10 semi-submarine sunk by the ROK Navy on December 2nd 1983 19. 20. A modelling club had put on a display. There were 50 1/48th Phantoms and the quality of modelling was excellent.

  11. Thank you gents! The flypast as Andy will recall well was fantastic! The formations were a real display of ROKAF power and also tightly timed which added to the dramatic impact with the big mixed formation of fighters being the highlight.

  13. Following on from Red Dot's recent excellent photo post regarding the 4Aviation trip to South Korea and Taiwan last month I thought I'd add my contribution from the same trip. A small group of us spent the Monday press day initially outside the airfield to capture the spectacular flypast of some 70 aircraft and helicopters across a number of formations followed by the afternoon on the airfield which was blissfully empty of people! The flypast was repeated on the Tuesday when the show was formally opened by the Korean president and as it was a VIP day there was no flying in the afternoon hence we ventured to the arrivals end outside the airfield to capture any show related movements. The aircraft on display were all Korean and American and as you can see we were blessed with glorious weather! In fact for the whole two weeks the weather was pretty good. In addition to the aircraft on display the Korean Army also put on an impressive line-up on domestically produced military vehicles. More to come as and when I get around to organising them. 1.   17. Michael, I think all who visit the museum owe you and your former colleagues a debt of thanks for the great work that has been done in the past and continues today. It is a shame that the price of admission cannot be increased as even another PLN 20 on the ticket would still make it very good value (particularly coming from the UK). I could have posted so many more pictures and seeing so many former Eastern Bloc airframes together was a real treat for me. I hope to revisit the museum one day.
  18. Thanks Mark. It was a nice day out to somewhere a bit different. We've been to Portugal quite a few times and if you like golden beaches with very few people on them then Portugal offers plenty of choice. Lisbon and Porto are terrific cities to visit too. Food is also good with plenty of seafood on offer.
  19. Thanks James. Yes, some of the exhibits are suffering badly from being outside. Never have I seen so many eastern European aircraft in one place.
  20. Krakow itself is well worth visiting Mark. In addition to the lovely old town centre there is a Wawel Castle, a small home defence museum covering the second world war and of course Krakow is around 80 minutes drive from Auschwitz which I visited owing to my enforced three day extra stay following the bank holiday ATC failure. Trains from Krakow Airport to the main railway station take about half an hour and are cheap too.
  21. On my way to Radom for the airshow at the end of August I stopped in at the Krakow Aviation Museum. There are plenty of exhibits to keep the visitor occupied and at only PLN 27 (about £5.40) the entrance fee is a bargain. Although there are several indoor exhibition halls a good number of the airframes are stored outside and some are in poor condition. My wife and I were on holiday in Nazare last month, a lovely, small seaside town with glorious beaches and famed for its world record high waves (86 feet is the highest recorded) that surfers flock to in the winter. More importantly and quite by chance, I discovered that Monte Real, about 40km drive north, was holding an open day the weekend we arrived. As it was an open day rather than an airshow it was low key and relaxed. Free entry, no bag searches or frisking but equally it was limited on the flying action. Three F-16s launched in the morning for three fly-bys (despite being airborne for well over an hour) with an eight ship in the afternoon followed by simulated bombing runs and pyros. A C-130 was due to appear but cancelled. Unfortunately, the weather was mixed with strong winds and showers but the sun did put in an appearance. There were eight aircraft in the maintenance hangars in various states of undress. Early afternoon we left the base and parked up at the north end of the runway by the lights which offers superb photo opportunities. All of the shots were taken either with my phone or my wife's pocket camera. 1. The two gate guards. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Each of the aircraft on display had a classic car parked next to it.
