    Hello there!

Welcome. There seems to be a few of us with the same back story.
  2. I wasn't sure this was going to get off he ground, but 15/16 and over a year to go yet is just awesome
  3. As a big Space 1999 fan, this looks interesting. But why on earth do they publish photos of such a nasty assembly and paint job?
  4. Current state, first scrub down with IPA and a toothbrush:
  5. A lengthy and not totally positive update. Initially I was going to paint the top wing separately, as the upper surface is orange-yellow so I built it all to a certain point including the main float. This turned out to be a mistake. I test fitted the top wing and found out that building it all and then painting was the way to go. However, the struts holding the float are just too flimsy for me and I broke them all at least three times. Argh #1 Eventually I got the thing done and the major rigging. I was going to do full rigging but decided I'd just end up breaking the main float off yet again. So I sprayed it all X-1 gloss black prior to spraying Vallejo Metal Color Aluminium. I left the paint to cure completely for several days, more to circumstance than design. So today I start with a light first coat on the underside and it runs straight away, there's no adhesion to the gloss black at all. Argh #2 Which is weird because when I painted the cockpit, it adhered to the gloss black no problem. However, when I painted the inside, I sprayed the aluminium on straight away when the gloss was barely dry and also used some X-20A thinner and some W&N flow improver. One or more of those three differences made all the difference! I've stripped almost all the paint off using IPA but of course the ****y main float has snapped off again. Also, I'd forgotten until I was part way through stripping that I'd used Mr Surfacer 500 in some places. This rehydrates in IPA so some of my filling will need redoing too. Argh! #3 So now I need to decide whether or not it's worth continuing or just binning
  6. Awesome, almost a whole jasta!
  7. An amazing piece of work, especially with the lighting and mass of aircraft!
  8. That's a link to a web page, what you need is something that ends with .jpg or .png
  9. A GB sounds like a great idea, I would certainly join in with that one. I really like your Sea Vixen build
  10. I've used Vallejo Metal Color - aluminium - and was impressed enough to go order the steel. They airbrush straight from the bottle very easily. Flory did what I think is a representative review. One thing about the price is that while, yes, they are £6 a bottle, you are getting 32ml not the 10ml you get with Tamiya for instance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKtJ2sx3VJY
  11. That's a very interesting series of posts there Corsair, thanks I'm glad to see you got the new Tamiya M4A3E8 Korean Devil Sherman kit (box includes a GAZ Jeep kit too!), there's a reasonable OOTB* step by step build here + images of all the sprues for anyone fancying building it for the M3/M4 GB: https://youtu.be/IZyWmQrT0Nk * Watching it again, I've just seen that he does use a PE upgrade for the .50 CAL; I think it's the RB Models kit that he uses.
  12. Modelhobbies carry these for £3.16. Worth it just for use as a paint mule! https://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/revell-spad-xiii-04192-p-18143.html
  13. Short answer: put zimmerit wherever you would like it to be unless your representing a specific tank. Long answer: I'm convinced that not all Tigers had zimmerit on them: this is a picture of a Tiger, which I assume in on the Eastern front: it's definitely seen action(!) and there is no zimmerit visible on either the upper glacis or the front plate, even though zimmerit was chiefly to protect armour against Russian magnetic anti-tank mines (which didn't really exist anyway): This is a knocked out Tiger in North Africa(?), no zimmerit anywhere at all: I would have to (politely!) disagree with this; as a) a tank is rarely on a perfectly flat surface so there is never a truly horizontal surface, and b ), the upper glacis of a Tiger isn't actually horizontal!
  14. Here's an alternative method that guarantees the piece is glued exactly where you want it to be. Position the piece and support with blue-tac so that the piece stays exactly where you want it to be when you take your fingers/tweezers off. Try to ensure that the blu-tac isn't going to get glue on it. Then dab Tamiya Extra Thin at the contact points and leave it to cure. Remove the blu-tac at your leisure; I usually it over night so the welded join has completely cured. This also works when supergluing metal to plastic, although obviously the cure time is so much shorter. Apply the smallest amount possible with a needle or cocktail stick so that the glue flows by capillary action into the joint.
  15. As a massive Asimov and Foundation fan, all I can say is "Oh dear...". I really can't see this working at all. And that's before we got into how bad a rendition John Carter was and how those books should have been easy to make into film. In 1970. My point is that all of this material is too dated for both the way film & TV is made these days, and the expectations that Jo/e Public has of it. The type of sci-fi that Asimov and his peers wrote just doesn't work on the screen today or if it does, it's because it bares little resemblance to what the author wrote. Just look at how bad the screen versions of I, Robot or Starship Troopers are in comparison to the original texts. A man in a pub told me that you can find it on bittorrent. Apparently
  16. I saw one of these going on ebay for a very nice price, then I remembered all the glazing on it from this thread and decided not to put in a bid!
  17. Sure, Sign in! Click on your user name on the top right hand side and then click on "images". This should take you to a gallery of all of your uploads. Click on the image you would like to post: And this should take you to a page showing that image + a list of link options on the right; click on the second one down: The link for the image is now in your clipboard and you can just paste that straight into a post here. HTH
  18. Just a heads up, you can also use imgur for hosting (apologies if this has already been mentioned). It's fairly easy to use, no fees and Ive used them for years: https://imgur.com/
  19. Thanks Dennis. Yes, I have seen that rule mentioned somewhere. I probably wouldn't start at all though, I have plenty of other things to do first!
  20. That's why he's so popular with the ladies (or laddies perhaps!)
  21. Two kits acquired so far for this, I will try to not start at least one of them! Dragon 1/35 Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. G Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler Division: And today I picked up the old Tamiya 1/35 Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H, Early Version:
  22. Thanks guys. I don't think my effort will be up to your standards though Kahunaminor, especially the scratch building element. All my scratch building patience is currently being spent on a 1/35 M41 Walker Bulldog light tank and I think I'd go insane if I were to try some in 1/48 too. I've decided to go with the standard green over IJN grey scheme, just need to find a suitable Tamiya paint recipe for the identification yellow stripe. This is often supplied as a decal I believe... but not in this kit It seems the correct colour is FS 33538, so I'll just have to eyeball it or buy the Humbrol acrylic. Also, I can't find anywhere that has the Eduard photo etch set in stock and of course it's OOP
