  1. nice looking job Andy, good work. Like the PR blue finish on a mossie
  2. Andy + Chris, thanks for answering my question about the cross, was beginning to wonder whether it had been sold on to the Luftwaffe
  3. Phil, thanks very much for the offer, PM inbound Jon, my first choice would have been the grey/green camo. I felt that the grey scheme would be better for practicing weathering as I could correct any serious mistake without having to p!ss about remasking the camo. I cannot recommend Phil's Pro Wash highly enough for anybody who is thinking about trying it out, cos if it allows someone like me to make a passable effort first time out, it's gotta be good
  4. Nice pic Chris, she's looking a bit cleaner than my interpretation. I did have the tail looking similar to that shade of red at one point after I had to sand down after being heavy handed with the airbrush. Seems a shame that she ended her days being sunk ,still, the folks should be happy, I guess. any idea what the cross on the nose is?
  5. Nice work Ratch, I remember sooo wanting one of these as a kid, santa never obliged tho'
  6. Thanks very much for all the kind comments people, very much appreciated. After being a member of one or two other forums(not modelling related) where people started becoming nasty and 'online gangs' forming, it's a pleasure that folk here are friendly and welcoming. to be honest Sean, 'cos I was missing a seat and was building as a weathering excercise OOB I didn't put an awful lot of time and effort into the cockpit, so it's pretty basic in there, but I agree, it is nice to see the profile unspoilt by raised canopies from time to time (that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it ). I plan to buy another of these kits and use an aftermarket cockpit so I'm afraid the canopies will be raised for that one. Next up will probably be the Trumpeter 1/48 Wyvern S.4 I received for xmas from my GF. It does look to be an excellent kit so will probably be able to resist starting it until, ooh, at least this evening Regards Q
  7. Hi folks, a first posting of my first completed aeroplane kit. I do have a Lightning and a Spit which were started before this but for various reasons have had their build postponed. This is a kit that was given to me a while back by a guy at work. He had apparently bought it for his son, who had opened it but decided he didn't want to build, and hence was missing a couple of parts, namely one of the seat parts and one of the little stabiliser type thingys (technical description) from the fin. Being a recent returnee to the hobby, I decided to finish this one in the colours of 56 Sqn. and experiment at weathering using Phils wonderful Pro Modellers Weathering Wash, the idea being that the grey finish would show the variations in tone better than the grey/green camo that would normally be my first choice. Assembly was pretty straightforward, only the intakes giving me problems fit wise. There is a very slight step on each join, but I decided to leave it as my skills are not yet up to repairing problems like this and the remedy would most likely look worse. As the build was an experiment for me, I decided to wait until it was finished and see if I was happy with the results before replacing the lost seat, hence the canopy is only tacked on with Pva for the time being. Also, due to clumsy hands, the two probes on the fin were broken off and lost forever in the carpet Painting was done (after my first attempt at preshading) with my Badger, using xtracrylix for the underside, Alclad for the BMF around the tail and the exhaust nozzles, and Gunze acrylics elsewhere. Panel lines and weathering were applied after decaling with the wash as mentioned. Photo's were taken with my new camera. I have had an interest in photography for a long time now, but usually outdoor/landscape pics taken with my trusty old Canon AE-1 using either Fujichrome or Extachrome slide film, so the pics are not the best you'll see, but I'm working on it. Hope you like it and thanks for looking Q
  8. I was looking at this last night on Hiroboy, their description is as follows - "Honey Primer Its main use is a primer for the hi-shine finishes,if you mask and paint some panels gloss black, remove the tape and spray clear base over the entire model-then use 1 hi-shine shade the result will be a difference in 'tonal value' due to the light and dark base (as most kits are grey or silver plastic the panels which have only clear on them as a base modify the strength of the reflected light). The clear can be used as a base for the normal Alclad colours but it should be left for 24 hours before being painted over." hope this helps Jen Q
  9. They are made by Mal Mayfield from Aeroscale. There is a review by Mal himself on http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=...&artid=1872 thought they look quite useful myself
  10. Lovely job Neil, always a pleasure to see a well finished model of a Vb
  11. great work with the Alclad, Craig, very impressive
  12. I'd be hard pushed to knock one up to that standard in in 24 days, Jen, never mind 24 hours - kudos
  13. Excellent work Sandy, something to aspire to there, I feel.
