1/48th Avro Shackleton AEW2
quarryman replied to tomprobert's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Lovely work, you've certainly done the kit justice with that level of detail -
I'm another of the `only just noticed this thread` group i'm afraid how I missed it I do not know?? what can I say that hasn't been said before? Whilst the level of model engineering skill is undeniably top notch ( and way above anything i could do), what impresses me most is the amount of self determination and sheer willpower needed to see a job like this through. If you have any to spare can you post me some... Superb build Richard, a pleasure to follow Regards Rich (who is now off to see if he can make the cockpit canopy fit on his current build..Again!)

Thanks for the replies gents, all appreciated, This is what worries me most, matching the holes is not so bad, but not so sure on the precision needed to drill the holes in the first place could do with a pillar drill not an option unfortunately Mike, the fuselage is cast as one piece. It's a Luft 46 job, Blohm & Voss P.170 , so not only do I have the wing/fuselage join, I've got the two engine pods to go on the end of each wing

Hi folks Daring to try a resin model for the first time, and I am not too sure about joining the wings to the fuselage. Each wing is cast as one piece, and just butts against the fuselage, no tabs, fixings or whatever to allow me to fix securely, so I am going to need some sort of strengthening. My line of thinking is a couple of pieces of brass tubing in each join and herein lies the problem. Do I have to make sure each hole is drilled exactly ( which I am not confident about being able to do properly), or can I drill oversize holes and fill with superglue gel which will give me a certain amount of leeway to line each wing accurately? or am I on totally the wrong track and should be looking at another way? Any advice welcome, Thanks Rich

Avro Lancaster PD259 JO-G Diorama
quarryman replied to Mattie Bee's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
this looks interesting, got one of these on the go at the mo', just the flightpath .303's and the detail set on mine though. Might be tempted to get the Belcher engine set as well, as I've read the kit ones are a poor fit (not test fitted them yet). -
Mattie, thanks for the offer, I'm in no rush, so if you could grab a pic or two that would be wonderful, thank you. thanks for that, turnerdad, a conclusive answer, just what I was looking for Thanks to everybody for your replies, I shall go with black then......no...err...green....or maybe yellow.... Regards Rich

Hello people I am currently building Tamiya's 1/48 Lanc with the Flightpath PE set, and am not sure about the interior colour for the flaps. Having seen other modellers finish them in both Black and what appears to be Interior Green, and the picture on the Flightpath instructions showing them in a yellowy colour, I am getting a bit confused. A google search and a flip through my limited collection of printed material has given no answer, so if anybody in Britmodellerland could advise I would be most grateful Thanks Rich

1/48 Tamiya Corsair with Aires set
quarryman replied to turnerdad's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
wow, that is impressive! excellent job. -
I tried using Vallejo paints, both the ordinary and the Model Air, and didn't get on with 'em at all. The finish was fine, but I found they scratched far too easily and clogged up my AB in no time, even thinning them right down. I'd second what others have said and suggest trying Gunze, they spray superbly, give a lovely scratch resistant eggshell finish (the semi-gloss ones, anyway), don't clog the AB and clean easily. Besides MDC, you can also get 'em from www.netmerchants.co.uk

I would say wings deployed too, Mish. The Wyvern is an awesome looking aeroplane and looks it's best that way IMO. having said that, as the two I've already built were wings deployed, the next one I do will probably be with folded wings nice work so far BTW -

excellent work Ian, good to watch a master craftsman at work. I've got a Revell 1/72 Lanc on the workbench at the mo' and if it looks half as good as this I'll be happy see what you mean about that guy on ebay - think he's trying to buy up all remaining stock

Trumpeter 1/48 Wyvern S.4 (again)

Thanks for the kind comments folks, much appreciated well done Mike, passed todays observation test . It is the early version, the reason I painted the canopy like that is simply because I didn't read the destructions and assumed it was the same as the late version. Tbh, the timeframe wasn't a consideration, I just wanted to do a RAF grey green camo version. I have read that the RAF were going to fly Wyverns, but have not been able to find any more detailed info, so it was down to imagination really regards Q -
Hi folks Finally got this one finished after an enforced delay due to airbrush failure. I had just about finished this, only the tail fins to paint and a coat of varnish to be applied when my Badger 200 started leaking air. I thought it was leaking through the valve, so bought a new one, fitted it, only to find out i was still losing the airflow. After a few swear words, decided to bite the bullet and treat myself to that new Iwata I've been promising myself for ages. New AB was duly delivered yesterday, so here she is at last. I decided to do a bit of whiffery with this one, and finish it it 92 Sqn. markings with grey/green camo on the upper sufaces and med. sea grey on the undersides. 92 Sqn. was chosen for no other reason than I could cannibalize left over decals from Airfix's Lightning and Revell's FGR.2. The build was pretty straightforward, just the wing join alignment giving me problems (again) and needing a little bit of filling. Also lost the black line wing decals due to careless handling before varnishing. They hadn't taken very well and rubbed off quite easily . Gunze lacquers were used for the paint job, and sealed with Xtracrylix satin varnish, Promodeler Dark wash used on the panel lines. Please forgive the exhaust staining, still getting used to the Iwata and went a little over the top with it. one last pic standing next to a RN stablemate Thanks for looking, hope you like , Regards Q
