Put new bookshelves up and managed to get my books out of storage.

I think with some shuffling I may be able to free up some shelves for models too :)

Looking at that set of shelves, I think you've got half my book collection there too. (OK so my Expanse books are on my Kindle app, but the principle still holds 🙂)

  2. Morning All,

Well, due to work and the wife's health and many other factors, I haven't really had a great deal of bench time this year. After a trip to Perth with Washington Model Club, I came back with a few kits, one of which was the 1/6th. Suzuki GSX1100S Katana, a kit I'd always wanted to build, ever since I saw it in the Tamiya catalogue, all those years ago. It also made a pleasant change from my usual focus of aircraft models, so much so that I bought a Tamiya Honda CBR100XX Super Blackbird kit the other week and I fancy the Ducati Super Panigale kit as well.

Here it is, before I put the decals on.

  3. Good afternoon everyone,

What with 2016 being a year of great changes, (moving house, new job, my wife having weight loss surgery), I've not had the time to be as productive as last year, but then again last year I had 4 enforced weeks off and then lost my consultancy contract, so ended up with a huge amount of time off. So here, in no particular order, are the builds I managed in 2016.

    Revell 1/32 Fw 190 F-8

Tamiya 1/32 Corsair (with a pilot figure, which was the first attempt I'd made at figure painting for a while.

Hasegawa A-4M Skyhawk, which was one I pulled off the Shelf of Doom.

Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk. V, from the new kit, which went very well, apart from slight awkwardness with the undercarriage legs.

Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk.16e, which was a bit of testbed for a natural metal finish (still don't think I've cracked it).

And finally, Eduard 1/48 Spitfire Mk.16 e in the colours of Air Vice-Marshal James M. Robb.

  4. Good morning Britmodeller-land

Here's another one that's taken the edge off my enforced leisure time. I bought this kit at the Tyneside show from models4sale at the knock-down price of £75.

All OOB, no corrections, as I definitely can't afford the Zactomodels correction sets. :).

Painted in a mixture of Tamiya, Lifecolor and Vallejo paints, with a very dilute Humbrol wash to bring out the panel lines and grubby it up a bit.

Nosewheel went a bit skew-whiff and I can't do a great deal about that as it's all epoxied together (I didn't think superglue would hold the weight of the model).

Decals were the ones that came with the kit.

Engine heat staining was painted with a base of Tamiya gun metal, followed by tinting the paint with clear blue and clear orange. It doesn't really show up very well in the iPad pictures. I could have painted those access hatches a bit better.

    Thanks for looking

  5. Rosin flux solder is very handy, but please, please, extract the fumes. Long-term exposure to flux fumes can set off all sorts of respiratory ailments. (Nigh on 30 years in the electronics industry, ask me how I know).

  6. I did use the engine, but the barest minimum, just to give something to see in the exhaust and intake trunks.

I hope you get a diagnosis of some sort soon, not knowing what the problem is must be a worry in itself. I've got my first outpatients appointment at the beginning of next month and an echocardiogram soon after that. I'm still waiting for an appointment for a cardiac MRI to see what damage, if any, has been done to my heart muscle. With good luck, it should be minimal.
