  1. Well done Pat. The painting looks real good. Great detail painting. 👍👍
  2. This is the the progress on my little guy. It is coming together quite well now. I painted the cowelling this morning as well, but got my usual paint separation. As a result I will have to sort it before I fix it to the plane.
  3. Been having a frustrating morning. I put the navigation lights on the TF-X this morning. It went perfectly until I took a second look. I had put them on the Wrong way round. So off they came. No longer would they fit nicely and then one of them disappeared into the mists of time. Still I could use the one from the night fighter kit and make one for that later. So one more tripping step closer to the finishing line. Next came the painting of the torpedo with Vallejo metal. Of course it separated even though it went on a base coat of Tamiya Nato black. It happens most of the time I spray that paint.
  4. Thanks Adrian, Now I have given it it's black coat if doesn't look to bad. I'm very disappointed that the box scheme isn't in the decal set. As a result I have decided to make up a similar scheme using the kits Silver plane decals. Unfortunately because the three number is in white and rather small it will be hard to make. I will never understand why they didn't include the box scheme.
  5. The planes is going into the paint shop today. It survived the build phase. It isn't perfect unfortunately however acceptable to me considering the kit problems.
  6. Excellent Pete I built this one I the eighties. It was one of my favorite builds at the time. I'm looking forward to doing one of my Gaspatch kits one of these days.
  7. Well done Pete. Good to see you got the wing on without too much trouble.
  8. Here is the latest progress. The landing gear is on as well as the engines. The landing gear is the most complex I have had to do. The parts are rather fragile as well so it is a miracle I got this far. I'm held up putting the doors on because I forgot to paint the interior of them. You can see the one of the nightfighter Beaufighter's main targets in the cabinet. Do 217E
  9. That sounds like a good way to do it. I might try that on the nightfigher. I have the gear doors attachment bars in on one side. I found one of the legs that were supposed to fit into the location holes seems to have the locating pin missing. I'm sure I didn't cut it off. One thing I did forget to do is paint the inside of the doors, so that will slow me down.
  10. I agree with you on that comment. I'm installing mine now. It will most likely take all day. Have you got the top panel on. That's where my problems showed up. Those fixing point onto the gear frame needs to be correct. Mine wasn't which meant I had to back track after I had assembled the sub assembles.
  11. Good idea. I am tackling my Revell Beaufighter landing gear at the moment. It is just as difficult with lots of parts that need to be aligned absolutely correctly. It's a bit of a nightmare. I might do my Do 17z landing gear tomorrow. The only issue I have is putting that part you have already installed in. I didn't install it as instructed because I'm sure I would have broken it during construction. I did it this way on the Do 215 so it shouldn't be a problem.
  12. How is your landing gear going. I'm finding it really difficult. There are so many parts that need to be aligned very carefully. Be aware of the solid panel that is used to install the gear. It must be attached to the leg framework correctly. Carefully look At the attachment points and be aware of them when you put the frame together. I wonder if it will be easier to install the top Cross frame after attaching the panel to the main legs.
  13. Thanks Rob. I have had to take a step back with this one. When I was masking it I noticed the lower wing panels weren't sealed. You can see them in the image. I've now sealed them. Tomorrow I will over paint the joints. I should get the landing gear on the TF-X tomorrow as well. Daves decals are still missing sadly 😥 for the Aussie plane. He has sent another set, so hopefully that will arrive before the deadline. I will be happy if I get two Beaufighters done. Three would be a bonus.
  14. Several were even shot down into the channel during the Battle of Britain.
  15. Looking good. You think this is difficult. On the 1/48 engine it is made up of 35 parts. That is for just one of the engines. The cowelling is in three parts and opens at the correct joint.
  16. Just letting you know this plane hasn't met the bottom of the bin yet. After pulling the wing off I have shortened one side of the center struts. Now it looks better aligned with the fuselage. I'm still battling the broken main strut and doubt I will get a good join on it. I have a feeling I made a mistake by shorten the attachment of the main strut to the fuselage. I think it should have been installed so the struts didn't sit on the fuselage directly.
  17. Good luck with it Peter. I hope it goes together better than my project.
  18. Thanks Ray I think I will clear coat it between colours.
  19. Ray how does Tamiya masking tape work on Vallejo paint. Does it lift it? I'm doing a Malta Beaufighter using Vallejo paint.
  20. This is my latest progress on the TF.X. These are home made code decals which were difficult to handle. Anyway this is the best I could do. I still have the small kit decals to put on. The roundels are from the kit.
  21. Ray that is looking absolutely superb. This will be a big help for me when I get to it.
  22. Well done for getting this far. I understand your concern about the landing gear. They are very fragile looking and not easy to build up. I had the same issues with the main canopy. Particularly with the nightfigher. I'm really pleased to have the Tamiya kits on the go. With them I know I will get a good result. I'm sure you will have a better finish than mine. I'm almost done the decals on the TF-X which are mainly home made. This has been a major issue as well. Good luck with the rest of it.
  23. Anyone know how Vallejo handles Tamiya masking tap?
