  1. The front ranks are getting there. Just a few bits and pieces to paint then the final washes. After that it's the simple matter of basing.
  2. It looks like a sidecar race, 2hp iengine. I don't think they have spears nowadays in the TTs though. You're certainly jumping periods Jim. Keep it up
  3. Oh I don't blame you on the tartan. For me immediately before you added the red stripes it was the best painting on a figure of a Black Watch tartan I'd seen. With the red stripe it's still a cracking job on tartan but I just don't think it's a Black Watch. I checked in my library and Haythornthwaite does mention that the Grenadiers 'may' have had a red overstripe in their tartan but that language suggests to me that he isn't convinced and if Haythornthwaite isn't convinced..........
  4. There are several versions on the way that the Black Watch gained the all red vulture feather "heckle" but it is certain that they were very proud of it. So proud that in 1822 the instruction came from Horse Guards that they were the only ones to have that distinction. I understand that the red feather with white tip was worn by some Grenadier junior officers. You may also find the following links pertinent to the tartan. They do say that all conpanies of the 42nd wore identical tartan long before the Napoleonic Wars. https://albanach.org/the-original-military-tartan-the-black-watch-f5530a63a716 http://www.tartansauthority.com/research/tartan-spotlight/the-black-watch-tartan/
  5. I just have to question the hackle/heckle Ratch I'll leave the tartan for now The painting is excellent
  6. These popped through the door this morning so as I said I've started on them. The others are now fully based and awaiting these new ones joining the ranks
  7. Today was fun And note ♪ or two ♪♪ I also got a little paint on the horses
  8. I think I'll just have time to get these done while I'm waiting for the extra Austrian Landwehr figures. MrsG has chosen the regiment so it's a goer. I've cleaned them off and levelled the bases so the next operation is impalement
  9. I've started basing them and they are awaiting the arrival of their front ranks. This is how they stand at present. Note some have travelled much further than others I'll finish off the basing on these and get the front ranks done as soon as I have them.
  10. Interesting choice for your first metals Jim One of those snap shots where everyone is blinking
  11. The gabions were from Ironclad Miniatures in 2011. I simply had to paint them. This diorama completely emptied my resin gabion stash. More have been ordered from Anyscale Models and Ironclad Miniatures. That will give me 3 different sizes in resin plus the plastic ones from the kits
  12. I couldn't decide whether to have one or two regiment's uniforms so I'm doing three.
  13. I had a little time left after the Siege mortars and these little chappies were shouting at me from the top of my printer so............... They're primed and ready to go.
  14. It's been many years in the planning so I threw the plans away and made this. Now, what's next on the table
  15. The glue is drying and pieces are in position. Moving to - Figure Ready For Inspection - when everything is dry
  16. Earth scatter added to the front. Some areas filled behind the gabions and starting to introduce figures.
  17. It's basing time Make the gun platform for the field piece. Make three more sections of planking, paint, wash and add to the prepared base. Add emplacement and gabions. Wait for the PVA to set (the boring bit).
  18. I think these are done, unless someone's spotted something I missed. I think the Sergeant is looking like one
  19. The figures I believe are almost finished. A bit of washing and bases painted and that should do them. Note that the Revell figures are wearing oilskins on their shakos. The plume is also covered by the oilskin. That's the way the sculptor made them so I've painted them that way too.
