  1. Added to the stash as I'd exchanged eight of the horses with shabraques for sheepskins to mount the Revell figures. This gives me a further supply if I decide to expand the 1st Royal Horse Guards.
  2. Work has progressed although it's not that easy to see a lot of it in the photo. All the leather work of the horses' tack is painted. As the horses are a very dark brown I used greyblack for this. Still the metal parts to add. Hooves and eyes are painted and I've started on the shabraques. The horses are not as glossy as they seem in the photo either.
  3. The horses are ready for a wash and then the furniture painted up. They had black primer then chocolate brown and a diluted black ink so they're not a solid colour. The wash will dull the finish and enhance detail. The figures are coming along. Most of the large areas are done and just need some fine touching up. I had a little fun with the scalpel. While removing the Troopers' plumes, I somehow managed to remove the Officer's plume and left one on a Trooper. Out came the Bosch screw driver and 0.6mm drill, his plume is now stainless steel wire coated in PVA. I then conspired to remove the plume left on the Trooper and removed the front of the helmet too. Superglue gel to the rescue and a final trim ( carefully this time). Still a lot to do.
  4. A British Siege Artillery position somewhere in the Peninsular. + =
  5. 7th October added further very useful link to the initial post.
  6. It was sitting there on the shelf and the nice man behind the counter made me an offer I couldn't refuse, honest Guv!
  7. I have a stash of 1/72 and 20mm Napoleonics that could keep me painting for the next 50 years Jim. I don't think MrsG would appreciate me wandering into another period and she would be right (of course). On the primer, I have white and black brush on and the aerosols are white, light grey and mid grey. I just use the colour that is appropriate for the finish. The brush on I prefer for smaller numbers
  8. That was only the primer Jim, they're chocolate brown at the moment
  9. Some time ago I decided to take eight figures from the Revell set 2578 British Life Guards and paint them as Blues and Royals. The horses selected from the set had a lot of extra plastic moulded on so they all had to be recarved, an annoying necessity. They were primed (brushed on black) them given a chocolate brown coat and then inked over black. This gave a very dark brown finish to further play with. I painted the sheepskin a sheepy colour and tried to give some semblance of a shabraque but failed miserably. At this point I just happened to fall upon the information that the Italeri set 6080 French Light Cavalry had the problem of too many shabraques and not enough sheepskins. I dug out a set of these from the stash and selected eight of the horses.. They looked ok to go, the Revell figures fit but the hiorses' tails were too long. I cropped one of the horse tails ( Left) and reshaped the end and it looked reasonable so continued. They don't look too bad. Here's the comparison with a Revell horse The Revell horses now have a new home in an Italeri box and the Italeri horses are set to have Revell riders. Primed Now to get on with the riders.
  10. Gotcha Jim. You need the plastic lenses internally not externally. Good luck with that, I've been lucky enough to not need it (yet).
  11. Prinz Frederick August Regiment Grenadiers - Saxony 1806
  12. But these figures are huge Jim. Get yourself a magnifying headset, life becomes so much easier. This is all you need and they're very cheap
  13. Almost there with this little group of Grenadiers. They're been well soiled with a full sepia wash and brought back to a campaign cleanliness (ie dirty). There's still not a drop of white paint on them. I still have buttons and bases to paint I swear a friend of mine posed for that bottom left figure
  14. Great Jim. Only another 200,000 or so to go and you could stage Waterloo.
  15. They're not even my bottle tops John.
  16. Hehe, nice one Ratch. I just use the one set and they're both Regiments
  17. A little more colour on them now. Lots of detail painting still to add, pom-poms, braids etc. Please note that not one drop of white paint has been used on these
  18. Yes there are better figures out there but if you want reasonable groups, without breaking the bank, then in 1/72 they're just fine. Some of us still paint the old Airfix sets too.
  19. A couple of poses of Grenadiers are on the table now. Eight figures of each pose so not a long job. The figures are nicely moulded but it's so annoying that they've been sculpted with trousers when all references show that the Saxon infantry of this period wore gaiters. I've not re-sculpted the legs just painted the gaiters in, as with the fusiliers above. I think at this scale it's acceptable to do that for massed troops. No doubt that every one has spotted that they're Grenadiers of Prinz Frederick August Regiment 1806.
  20. Thank you Jim. I've got some 1/72 Saxon Grenadiers on the go now and they seem huge.
  21. I'd had these sitting around for a while ( in the stash)due to a slight problem. On arrival through the mail I found that most of the Dromedaries had broken tails. I finally bit the bullet and got out the soldering iron and fashioned new ones. I then started painting them with the correct camel furniture and they looked a bit like Santa's camels, all red and white so I cheated a little and darkened the colours. The riders are correctly attired and look reasonable at distance. I've asked Newline to make some in 20mm and they should be ready for the Christmas sales.
  22. At long last we and by great demand ( mainly by MrsG) I present my little band of Russians. They're Newline Designs 20mm so smaller than 1/72 scale. Here's a scale check, the officer isn't the most handsome fellow ever.
  23. I only paint 20mm and 1/72 so I'm biased. A decent group of Napoleonics in either scale and I'm happy.
  24. Almost there. Just a few touch-ups, print the flags and get them based.
