  1. thanks but as you'll see in my next post I've decided to retry the mottles, I think their too large and a bit too splodgy (is that a word?) rgds John(shortCummins)
  2. I masked the RLM 75 and made a marble layer with the C036… …and then blended with marble layer with highly thinned C036. The remaining mottle was added with both C036 RLM74 and C037 RLM75. Next I’ll be adding the insignia, aircraft codes and fuselage band. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  3. As RLM 75, to my eye, appears slightly lighter than RLM 74 I laid down that colour first, I started with a “marble layer” that was created using MRP-078 NATO green, MRP-241 dark gunship grey and MrColor C037 RLM 75 grey violet… …and blended with a couple of layers of highly thinned C037. Next I’ll be applying the RLM74. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  4. as someone who thinks 1/72 is far too small for tiered eyes and fat fingers 1/200 is just taking the micky lovely result rgds John(shortCummins)
  5. thanks "in the flesh" the pale blue is a little more "uneven", which is the effect I was after, I guess I need a better (lighting) setup to show the "true" colour(s) but I'm very happy so far, "free-handing" the demarkation between the upper and lower camo' is something I'm really, nervously, looking forward to as I've never attempted it before. However, I "free-handed" the camo' on my last build, a Hurricane, and was very please with the result, I did cover the green and brown with black as she was a "night intruder" but after I've had a practice on the paint mule I'm sure it'll be passable, if not I can always start the paint again! rgds John(shortCummins)
  6. Both the engine cover panel and resin engine pieces were masked in preparation for the “black basing marble layer”… I’ll be using MrColor C117 RLM76 light blue for the underside colour however, I first made a marble layer using various MRP paints, MRP-078 NATO green, MRP-136 intermediate blue, MRP-167 light earth and MrColor C117 RLM76 light blue… …these were ten blended with a highly thinned coat of C117 in several layers. Next I’ll be applying the RLM75. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  7. thanks Graham 👍 as I said nearly all I've seen have been green/brown but I do prefer grey/green but its good to have confirmation rgds John(shortCummins)
  8. I’m basing the camo’ scheme on Montex's description… …RLM74 grey-green, RLM75 grey-violet & RLM76 light blue. Most of the other Me272 builds I’ve seen have brown-violet rather than grey-violet for the upper camo’ however I prefer the RLM74/RLM75 grey-green/grey-violet combination as suggested by Montex. Before starting on the RLM76 I’ve painted areas and panels where wear and chipping might be applied, these were given a coat of LP-11. The “unpainted” engine cover panel was then misted over, through a template, with Xtreme Metal AK480 dark aluminium… …the idea is to give the unpainted panel a “not quite brand new” look? Next I’ll be painting the underside colour RLM76 pale blue. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  9. thanks Pete you're welcome to call in for a cup of tea or coffee anytime ☕ thanks chaps I've never really enjoyed re-scribing however once I found this tool at Telford a few years ago... along with the tape, it's made scribing much easier providing I make multiple "light" strokes, basically not applying any pressure just letting the weight of the tool do the work. rgds John(shortCummins)
  10. After the blemishes had been repaired… …the entire airframe was then given a coat of MrSurfacer 1500 black primer… …and the missing panel lines were re-scribed, the centre spine to the rear of the fuselage was reinstated and rivets added where they’d been removed… …there were a couple of inspection/access hatches that also needed to be re-added… Next I’ll be making a start on the RLM76. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  11. For ease of painting the tail mottles, I’m not going to add the horizontal stabilisers until later, however the rudder was fitted. The landing gear bay and intake and exhaust were masked and the seams were given a blast of MrSurfacer 1500 black primer… …there were a couple of places that needed some attention… …so these areas were filled with some black flexi CA… Next I’ll be re-scribing the “missing” panel lines and access panels. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  12. thanks chaps I think I've used up all of my "luck" for this build, from now on I'm really going to have to pay attention and check everything two or three times before action 👍 rgds John(shortCummins)
  13. So while I was gathering the engine parts I realised that I’d not added a couple of parts to the wing/landing gear bay! I managed to pry off the wing and attach the missing pieces… …and then reattached the wing, I needed to hold it in place with some tape this time. I always planned to use only one of the Aries resin engines so I need to add one of the kit versions. The various “inner” parts of the engine was given a coat of MrSurfacer 1500 black primer followed by some LP-11… …the exhaust was treated the same as the resin version with Xtreme Metal AK486 pale burnt metal and AK484 burnt metal… …and the engine pieces assembled and attached to the wing. I may use the supplied intake cover, so I’ve used hairspray to chip MRP-250 Richthofen’s red … Next I’ll be checking the seams, re-scribing and preparing for paint. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  14. thanks James your right, the "secret" is to leave it alone but its soooo hard to resist wiping it! thankfully I managed to leave it alone rgds John(shortCummins)
  15. The wing halves were glued together… …before attaching the wings to the fuselage I masked the cockpit, I had thought I could use the canopy however I’d have to cut off the joining lugs and would have made posing the canopy open far more difficult than necessary, I used Tamiya tape and liquid mask… …the wings were fixed in place… …I managed to drip some extra thin on the lower part of the wing, hopefully I’ll be able to deal with this before paint. Next I’ll adding the “kit” engine. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  16. very nice result and I enjoyed the build log rgds John(shortCummins)
  17. very nice and an unusual scheme
  18. white is far from easy to replicate, too often its too bright or too dull, but it looks as if you've got it just right rgds John(shortCummins)
  19. Most of the plumbing was brush paint with vallejo 70.950 black. Tamiya black panel liner was used to enhance the exquisite resin detail. On the link to a Jumo walk-around that @SafetyDad provided… https://www.largescaleplanes.com/articles/article.php?aid=2336 I noticed that the letter ’N’ was painted on a couple of places, so I thought I’d have a bash… MrWeathering greyish brown and multi black was used to dirty up the bottom of the engine. Next I’ll be nailing the wings to the airframe. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  20. thanks chaps I thought the resin engine was going to take far longer than it has and I'm so impressed with the level of detail rgds John(shortCummins)
  21. After some additional plumbing had been added MrSurfacer 1500 black primer was used to give the engine parts a base for the paint. I’ve decided to leave this central part in primer as the satin finish is just what I want. Xtreme Metal AK479 aluminium was used for the silver parts… …the exhaust and “bullet” were over sprayed with AK484 burnt metal… The various parts were then assembled and Xtreme Metal AK486 pale burnt metal was used to add some distress to the exhaust… …the final pice of plumbing was added Next I’ll be adding some detail paint and weathering to the engine. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
  22. thanks chaps for once its aftermarket that won't be hidden away! rgds John(shortCummins)
  23. The Aires set comes with two engines however I only plan to use one for this build, I fancy building a Heinkel He-162A-2 Salamander at some point and now that I've got a resin engine all I need is the kit. Firstly I gave all of the resin a wash in soapy water to remove any mould release and then set about cutting off the moulding blocks… …resin pieces and some PE have been built into subassemblies ready for painting. The lower wing was cut in half(ish) and the resin replacement glued in place with flexi CA… …the front top of the nacelle was also replaced with a resin piece. Next I’ll be painting the engine. until next time as always, any suggestions, criticisms or comments will be gratefully received. rgds John(shortCummins)
