Max Decals sheet #7216 (1/72 Irish Air Corps Update 2004) suggests FS 15177 as the main blue colour. No suggestion for the cheat line, ‘though!

Otherwise, this thread on the IPMS Ireland site has further details: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/ipms_ireland_forum/iac-casa-cn-235-colour-t2244.html#p13583

In retrospect, I think I got my FS numbers from Joe's book, then quoted from memory - never a good idea for me.

  2. I've seen FS 35177 suggested for the main airframe colour and FS35450 for the cheatline, though numbers beginning with 1 might be more appropriate for the gloss finish.  Xtracolor X603 Flanker Blue Grey and X601 Flanker Medium Blue might work after a fashion.

Just can't understand Airfix's source for the scheme even googling with the serial nothing turns up,ah well!

    Hi Steve,

It looks as though a photo's been put up since this thread.  It's at https://old.transportphotos.com/air/list_all?page=33&sort=asc&order=Quality  and depicts PK396 at Farnborough in July 1950.  It would appear that your model's bang on after all, despite my and others' reservations.  It looks great.  I must get my hands on some Vallejo Aluminium.

  4. I'd like to join in please.  I'm thinking in terms of the Bristol Superfreighter, which I think was still in service at the time of my birth in 1961.  I remember it featured in the Hippo Book of World Airliners in the 1960s.  A 502 Ulster Squadron Vampire or a Westland Wyvern probably wouldn't come amiss either.

    Fantastic looking mosquito

Forgive me for hijacking the thread but can anyone tell me the name of the armoured cars ?

I have a photo of my grandfather against the wing / mudguard of a vehicle with squared off wheel arches such as those in the photos and i am struggling to figure out what it is

Thanks for any help and apoligies once again

I think this might be it:

Thanks, there's some areas I'm not 100% happy with but I have a bit of a workaround. I picked up a set of these a while back, hoping to make a mini-diorama with one of my King Tigers. There's plenty of crates and boxes inside, and the Tiger I shell box just happens to be the perfect size for the fenders.

Having a wooden crate would also add a nice bit of contrast to the scheme.

Since the last update I've just mainly been pinwashing. Unlike the T-62 I'm working on the wash is now cooperating and it's come out rather nice.

I also decided to add some engine staining. It's subtle but I like it.

And my favourite bit, the decals. I'm deep inside "what-if" territory by this point so I just went for the cool Soviet slogan on the turret. The red star is for another scheme provided but why not have both? Decals went on fine although a fair bit of Micro Sol was needed to get the texture right.

And a progress shot to finish it off.

On a side note, anyone know what that slogan actually says?

It seems to read phonetically, 'Nashi sily neischislimy', which I think means, 'Our strength is incalculable.'

  7. Very nice, thanks.  You've got me on the term, 'splashers', as I haven't encountered it before.  I'm guessing that they're the semi-circular fairings over the top of the drivers and the long fairings which presumably go over the coupling rod at the top of its travel.

Probably overkill but Im asking these questions both here and in WW2 aviation.

I’m hoping to come out of my medical hiatus with the P-47 Single type group build seeing as I’m co-hosting. I’d like to pick everyone’s brain on P-47’s. I am looking for info on the SWPA (New Guinea 58th & 381st FG) based P-47’s. Also looking for info on Saipan (318th FG) based units and the P-47’s from the 7th AF, 15th FG Hawaiian islands defense.
Last up is the 1st air commando group & RAF Jugs in Burma and India ? The USAAF olive drab camouflaged jug’s had the 5 diagonal stripes in white. However Im getting conflicting info on the NMF version’s, the sources Im finding say either black or dark blue ? The RAF were they Temperate land scheme or Day fighter scheme ? Of course any help is gratefully appreciated in advance.

    Dennis

As far as I know, any RAF P-47s in Day Fighter Scheme were based in Egypt.  The camouflaged Jugs in SE Asia were in Temperate Land on the upper surfaces and Medium Sea Grey on the under surfaces.  I think this was in response to an Air Staff Order promulgated in 1944.

I'm tempted to jump in with a Twin Pioneer, though I'm aware that @JosephLalor has fingered this type too.

Go right ahead, I'd be eager to see it!  Given my baleful record on GB's, it would be a shame if the subject went uncovered because of me not doing something someone else wanted to.
