  1. Any thoughts on this topic? I'm torn between White or Interior green. Thanks, David
  2. One of my colleagues served as an Engineer Officer on Leander and Fearless. As a surprise for him I have obtained Fearless, but the only Leander I could afford came with only one hull half! I was thinking about carving the upper hull half out of bass wood. Any thoughts on this or other suggestions? Thanks in Advance, David
  3. I purchased the set of six metallic as featured in Airfix Model World which said they can be used via airbrush or hairy stick. I stirred them very well but the carrier liquid is very gloopy and when brush painted it disbursements have much pigment. As I invested nearly 30 quid on Lifecolor paints, thinners and cleaner I don't just want to leave it a cupboard. Any hints of tips please? Thanks, David
  4. Great start. I would love to see this over in Kampfgruppe 144. David
  5. It worries me seeing you hold your model out over such a large drop. Some good modelling there. David
  6. Retrokit do aftermarket bits such as the laser nose, cockpit and exhaust nozzles. Well worth picking up. David
  7. pm me, I have spares. Regards David
  8. Nicely done and a real change to see soviet markings. Its light years better than the ancient Revell effort. Thanks for showing us. Regards David
  9. Superb Windsor. I too had the Anigrand Halifax but binned it the shape of the nose is truly awful. I still have the Airspede Halifax from 30 years ago, a much better representation. Regards David
  10. Great work. You are right about the white wing decals, they are too thin. Retrokits do a correction kit for the tail and a drop in replacement cockpit set. Looking forward to see more progress. I love this scale too. Over 100 in the stash and as many built. David
  11. Sorry, I didn't recognise you from your picture. I too have a soft spot for the Hurricane. David
  12. Hi Rio, nice little Hurricanes. Do I spy some Sweet ones? Did you know there is a model club in Weston. Great bunch of modellers. Regards David
  13. Well real life has got in the way a bit, I laid 20 square metres of engineered oak last weekend and had to repair some play equipment in the village. Anyway 'My Whirlwind has no nose, How does it smell? Terrible!' This is going to be the HAR 10, the nose will be sculpted in Milliput and the tail boom drooped by 3 degrees. The Sycamore has had the side door and lower windows cast in clear resin. And another session of rhinoplasty, I have made a template for the HAR 10 and have drooped the tail. The filler does look very thick in these macro shots. Lastly for today I fitted the side windows into the Wessex - an hour of fettling and fiddling and it still looks like its done by an apprentice double glazing fitter. I must get some fresh milliput and super glue for tomorrow night at the North Devon Modellers meeting. Cheers David
  14. Yes it was. We had Bob Stanford Tuck as squadron president at the time too, can you imagine what it was like for us young cadets with names and faces like that around us? Great days.
  15. Sorry to be late on parade Ced, but looking at the picture of your pilot he bears a strong resemblance to a real 110 pilot. If you Google Gerhard Granz you will find images of him with his 109 and 110. He was shot down over Billericay by Bader' s wing man Cork. My ATC unit dug up the engines and Granz came over and took a propeller back with him! Great start by the way. David
  16. It's a nice little kit isn't it? You've done a grand job on it. What paints did you use? Regards David
  17. I've got a Hawk, Hunter, Sabre, Meteor, Vampire, Tempest and Spitfire on the go too, all in 144. Plus in 48th Meteor, Hunter and Hawk, all from Chivenor. The Hawk will be the one that crashed in our village!
  18. Lucky you,Feel free to post the picture, you never know it might be the one I'm modelling. David
  19. Well a little progress yesterday I really am not keen on painted out windows on my models and in 144 scale this is the case so here are the way I am trying to tackle it. The Sycamore had large windows at foot level and the side doors could be fitted with large bulged windows to allow a stretcher to be carried across the cabin In the Revell model these are solid. I intend to 'crash' mould the nose windows and cast the port plexiglass door in clear resin. So as not to damage the nose of the model I took as casting in resin to use as the plug. This is the door to be removed, The starboard one has the door removed anyway to allow the crewman to use the winch. You can also see the solid floor window. I made the moulds from Siligum. It comes in tubs, one blue the other white. Just like milliput you mix equal lumps together till they go an even colour, the push in the part to be moulded. The mould sets in about five minutes and is nice a flexible to allow you to remove the part being copied. The fuselage now looks like this, and the castings like this, I also made a start on the windows for the Sea King. The window layout is different to the Sweet kit so I have started to add the rear bulged windows and the port cabin window into its new position. I will, after reading Chrisp's build, trying to find sub atomic droop stops and hydraulic piping for the rotor hub. Thanks for taking a looksee, David
  20. As a young air cadet in 1964 I did that very thing in an HAR 10 from Leconfield over Bridlington. Great fun. David
  21. Here are the obligatory sprue shoots, The Sycamore was the first Rescue helicopter based at Chivenor and this is taken from the Revell German Tank Landing craft kit. The Whirlwind will from the miniwing kit, I have two of these, one as the piston engine model and the turbine HAR10. The Wessex is one of the Mark1 kits, in this case the Queens flight version. The final model is the Sweet Sea King, which was issued as a ready built under the FToys banner. Here it has Cartograph decals. OK, the next step is to get out the knife and sanding stick. Thanks again for looking, David
